I have been writing poetry since January 2004. I do not consider myself to possess any true poetic genius. I do however, create based upon my inner most feelings pertaining to the subject or the time. My expressions are my own and are often simple ramblings. What I write is what my mind has conceived and considers good work. Otherwise, what is the purpose of writing in the first place?

I retired from the Navy in 1995. In my years of service, I was witness to many changes and attitudes both positive and negative. My writing often reflects the experiences and opinions formed through these interactions.

My poetry does not focus on one topic, but is a collection of various themes such as related to history, nature, or patriotism. I try to write poetry everyone can read and understand. I avoid the use of million dollar words and prefer to leave them to the most intellectual of poets; of whose work I seldom read or understand. If greatness lies in the ability to write poetry that cannot be enjoyed by all, I elect to pass, and will forever remain an insignificant, happy man.

When we look at the World as a book,
    we see throughout the ages,
    as history is written,
    Poetry is the chosen Genre.

    Poetic Justice
    Those who vilify with contemptuous abhorrence toward poets;
    subsist as diminutive, inconsequential churls

    flowers on a wall.

dispel all your anger with invisible ink,
    write down your emotions,
    spew your hatred,
vent your anger onto the paper,
dispel all your anger with invisible ink,
    write anything,
    it makes no difference,
in a few minutes it will be all gone.

    Taxes
    Someone, please tell me,
    if you know, where does,
    all the money go?
    Taxes, taxes, on everything,
    Uncle Sam's coffers,
    ka-ching, ka-ching.
I am in debt over my head,
    no relief in sight,
    until I am dead.
    Whether at work, at play,
    shopping, attending, a ball game,
it seems they want more every day.
    I pay in good faith,
    year in, year out,
    the return on this investment,
    zero, or there about.
    Then, come April 15th,
    I live in fear,
I am going to have to pay,
    more again this year.
    I work very hard,
    live day to day,
I look forward to when I can say,
Uncle, you get no more of my pay.
    Of course, when that happens,
it will not mean a thing,
he will be at my funeral,
    to tax,
    my wedding ring.

    Nature Prevails
With a flip of his tail,
    he scurries away.
    All that is viewed,
the white of his hindquarters as he disappears.
An explosion of repulsive gas, all that lingers in air,
an accidental release caused by great fear,
    or, maybe,
left for the hunter as an insulting reminder of failure.
Two warriors match wits in the forest
this day, nature prevails, life wins again.
The hunter and the wise old buck go their way,
they live to die another day.

    slowly,
    he eases out his hole
    his cover broken
    a robin eats him
