Fix a Heart
Chapter 33
I heard beeping.
I was in a rock hard bed.
The ceiling wasn't pink like my room, it was plain white.
Shakily, I opened my eyes and attempted to sit up, but I couldn't.
My throat felt like a desert, unable to speak out.
My parents were asleep in chairs, and Bentley was looking down at the ground.
I clapped my hands a few times to get his attention.
"Lydia." He beamed and ran over.
"Thank goodness you're okay." He said hugging me tight.
I hit his head and eyed the water bottle on the dresser next to me.
"Water, right." He said understanding.
He opened it and carefully helped me pour it down my throat.
I immediately felt relieved.
"What happened?" I whispered.
"You don't remember?" He asked.
I shook my head no.
"Well, we were umm making out. And well then we got in a fight so I left.
I realized I was being stupid and came back. That's when I found you." He said.
He sucked in a breath, "While I was gone you cut yourself pretty deep. So deep that I called 911 and you were rushed here early this evening." He finished.
"What time is it?" I croaked.
"Three in the morning." He told me.
I looked at my left arm that was bandaged up.
"Lydia, please don't do that to me ever again." He sat on the edge of the bed.
"Seeing your eyes flicker open for one second, and then you laying unconscious...it scared me.
I can't lose you Lydia, you're all that I left." His eyes were glossy, like he was about to cry.
"I'm sorry Bentley." I whispered. "I didn't mean for this to happen."
He held me close and stroked my back.
"I know, everything is going to be alright."
For once, I believed it.
After a long talk with my doctor and my parents, I was released from the hospital.
I had to tell my mom when I was using a razor.
And I could only use one in the shower.
I wasn't trying to kill myself, but that little stunt scared everyone.
Even me.
The December breeze swished against my cheeks as I walked into school.
It was the last day until winter break.
"Morning." Bentley smiled and kissed my forehead.
He'd been incredible for the past few weeks, there by my side at all times.
I wound up calling Sienna back, who was indeed pregnant.
Bentley was with me every step of the way, and was going to come back to Maryland with us for Christmas when I would confront her, telling her everything.
I wanted so badly to tell her over the phone, but it didn't feel right.
"So I've got everything planned for our trip." He smiled filling the gaps between my fingers with his.
"It's basically the same as Thanksgiving, but with presents and a big tree." I shrugged.
"Maybe for everyone else, but I've got some other things in store." He smiled.
"Care to share?" I asked curiously.
"Oh please, did you really think I'd tell you?" He teased and spun me around.
The hallways were dead and I felt truly happy.
"Nope, but it was worth a try." I giggled and planted one on his lips unexpectedly.
"Acker Hill has a strict PDA rule." Amber sneered walking past.
"Oh the single are so bitter these days." I called out.
She stopped and turned around.
"At least I'm not a cutting freak." She snapped.
I clenched my fists, ready to pounce on this plastic barbie doll.
"Lydia, she's not even worth your time." Bentley said calmingly.
"You're right." I said and walked off.
I was better than her in every way.
