Chapter 5 (PART ONE)
Riding in a lift from the very top floor of a building to the very bottom with five boys who you have never met before is exactly as awkward as you’d expect it to be.
“So…” said Louis, “How’d you sleep? With the time change and all?”
“Pretty well, thanks. How about all you boys?”
Louis turned to Harry. “Well,” he said, “I would have slept just fine if this one hadn’t started yelling about some monster or another at half three in the morning!”
“Was that you!?” Zayn joined in, “I heard you from my room, Harry.”
“Nightmares, baby?” Louis said, ruffling a hand through Harry’s curls. Harry swatted him away. “I can’t help what I do in my sleep! And actually, I was being strangled by the bloody things! You’d be screaming too.”
I had to laugh.
“So where are you taking me then?” I asked with a smile. The rush of cold air that attacked us as we left the building almost knocked me off my feet…almost. Liam strode up next to me, hands in his pockets and his head bowed, bracing against the wind. “Errm well, I think we’ll grab some breakfast first and then -”
“Lunch more like,” Niall interrupted, a hint of frustration detectable in his tone.
Liam rolled his eyes and continued.
“And then I think…Lou, did you say you wanted to buy clothes?”
“No that was me,” interjected Zayn, “I need a couple new shirts.”
“Well that’s our plan then,” Liam said to me. “Is there anywhere in particular you’d like to go?”
“Not really, I’m quite happy to tag along.” I was just being polite. I’d just arrived in London for God’s sake, where DIDN’T I want to go? “It was nice of you all to ask me along with you!”
“Our pleasure,” grinned Harry, turning as he walked in front of me. “We wanted to get to know you a little better of course,” added Louis. “Sadly you’ll have to put up with us for three whole months.”
Psh. “Ahh, I’m sure I’ll manage just fine!” To say the least…
We ate at a little teahouse near Tower Bridge and I managed to fit in easily with the boys’ light conversation. They asked me all about my home and my friends and they tactfully skated over the subject of my father when I subtly indicated my unease. After leaving the cafe, we moved on to shopping, Niall and Harry taking it upon themselves to become my personal stylists as we walked into Topshop. The other boys went off to shop with Zayn while Harry rattled on in a hilariously feminine voice, practically throwing clothes at me because they ‘complemented my eyes’ or that he believed would ‘show off my figure’. Much to the sales lady’s annoyance, Niall decided to rifle through the hair accessories, clipping various objects to his head with help from Harry. I just stood there and giggled my head off like a right idiot. I watched Harry in the mirror as something caught his eyes behind us. I turned to follow his gaze. A strapless, red bodycon dress hung on the rack behind us. “Hmm, it’s lovely Harry but somehow, I just don’t think you’d fill out the bust,” I joked. He looked down at me, a cheeky look in his eyes, “Maybe not…but you would.” He winked and illustrated his point by letting his eyes flicker down for just a second.
I gave a shocked laugh, “Excuse me?”
