Prologue
Julie's POV
It has been a year. A year exactly. It seemed so much longer but exactly 365 days was
the day my childhood friend and secret crush,Ben, had moved away. 5 months since the
last time we talked but i'll always remember one day specifically before we stopped
talking. The day of the text. The i love you text he sent me. The one he later denied
after my shocked reply. When he denied it it was like a punch in the stomach, or
maybe even worse. If only he could see how much i have changed since the last time
we talked. Somedays i wonder what would have happened if
i had say i love you too. Would we have still grown so far apart? Would things
still have gotten awkward? Would he still have denied it being him who sent it?
All these thoughts running through my head i almost forgot where i was until *SMACK!*
i had been hit right in the face with a soccer ball. As i fell to the ground covering my face,
eyes welling up with tears i could hear someone running towards me. "Are you okay!?! I'm
soo sorry!" whoever had said it was definantly a boy and definantly concerned.
I uncovered my face slowly and as soon as i did a pair of gorgeous baby blue eyes met mine.
"Ben?"
"Yeah, whats your name?"
"Seriously? You dont recongnize me?"
"Should I?"
He has got to be kidding me right now. He has to remember me, it has only been a year! One
year, and he already forgot about me!
"Julie, my name is Julie. Remember me now?"
His mouth fell open in shocked. I mean i know i had lost weight and gained a sense
of style but seriously! I got up and started to walk away leaving him there on the soccer field
alone walking to my field for my practice which was starting in 15 minutes. I had only made
it a few yards before he came running back up to me.
"Wanna do something tonight? My practice is almost over then we can go catch a movie"
"uhhmm actually mine starts in about 15 minutes"
"ohh, maybe some other time then"
"yeah maybe bye Ben"
"Text me when you get home, my number is 80--"
"I have your number"
"why havent you texted me before then?"
"I have but as i recall i never get an answer so i gave up"
I jogged to my practice knowing the coach would be mad if i was late again.
I couldnt concentrate at all.
Ben seemed so suprised to see me.
I might look different but i was still just me and soon he would find out what happens
when you ignore me for so long and think we are still "cool".
Time to teach him how i play the game
and i dont mean soccer.
