The Search for Paradise
Chapter Twenty-Five
Matt's point of view
I woke up at about 4:30 in the morning and somebody was lying next to me with their arms around me. I turned and then I dimly saw Penny's flawless face in front of mine. She was asleep. I looked around, and the glass doors on the other side of my room were cracked open a tiny bit. Of course.
I kissed the top of her nose very softly, trying not to wake her, then grabbed the blanket next to me and pulled it over us so we weren't so cold.
I dropped my head back down on the little bit of pillow I had, since Penny and practically stole it from me, and fell asleep not too long after that.

I woke up sometime later, and it was bright outside. I sat up and looked around.
Oliver was gone.
Then I suddenly heard the faucet in my bathroom turn on. I stood up and cautiously walked over to the door. Then the door flew open and then Penny ran right into me, knocking us onto the floor.
"Well, hello, Matt," she laughed.
"Good morning to you, too," I chuckled.
Before she could get up, I crashed my lips onto hers, pulling her to me. She laced her arms around my neck and kissed me back.
She pulled away too soon, and stood up.
"Come on, Laura made breakfast, and everyone else is probably eating without us," she whined.
"Nah, let's just stay down here," I joked.
"Hah, no. I'm just gonna leave you here then," she said in a matter-of-fact voice and started toward the door. She glanced at me over her shoulder, and kept walking.
I groaned and stumbled out the door after her. She turned slightly and saw me coming, then took off down the hall. I ran after her and chased her up the stairs where I caught her by the waist, making her squeal.
"Would you two knock it off and come eat?" I heard my mom call.
"We're coming," I told her, trying not to laugh too hard.

today, right after school, he grinned, grabbed my hand, and whispered, "come on, we're going somewhere" and skipped with me down the hallway, out to the front of the school, and around the back , spinning in circles and leaping and laughing the whole time. we took each others hands and spun in circles, but i tripped over my own feet, tumbling and falling onto the grass, dragging him with me. i was half sitting up and he was kneeling down beside me. we laughed for a minute, completely out of breath & just wonderstruck. he took my hand, brushed my hair out of my face and looked deep in my eyes and told me he loved me, and he always has, and he used to see beautiful girls everywhere but the only girl he sees when he's walking down the halls is me now. i mean the world to him and that would never change. i was at a loss for words, and all i could muster was "i love you" and he tilted my chin towards him, looked straight in my eyes, and kissed me softly. it was my first kiss, and my whole world came tumbling down all at once and i just melted and all the other people surrounding us just disappeared into the background because what did they matter and all i could think was how happy to be in this very moment and i wanted to stay here forever and ever and ever and i never wanted to grow up or be with anyone else ever again and my mind was spinning a thousand miles an hour & i could have died right then and there & been completely happy with my life. more than happy. i love him.
