    Sometimes you think
    you've gotten
    over someone, but when
    you see them
smile you suddenly realize that you're just prentending you got overthem
to ease the pain of knowing
    that you'll never get
    over them.

    Remember That Night
Kristina gasped. She was engulfed in darkness. She couldn't see one light at all. Then, she felt like she was being carried. Carried away.
Was she dead? Was this heaven? Is this how easy and calm death felt like?
Kristina blinked. She was being carried. Inside a bag. Kidnapped. She punched all around and kicked, anything to get the killer's grip loosened. She swung back and forth and jolted herself for minutes. Then, she stopped. She took five seconds of just stillness. And then forced herself suddenly with all her stregnth and punched in the air. Her fist landed on something hard. A groan came from the person she had hit.
Kristina was dropped from the killer's grip. She scrambled to get herself unwrapped from the bag she was in. As she just got out, she took a quick glimpse at the killer. Whoever it was, was laying flat on the ground, coughing. Kristina sprinted away back to her house. The killer had managed to drag her up all the way up her street.
She ran to the front door and locked it. She looked out the window. The killer was gone. Out of the corner of her eye she saw yellow car lights whip by onto the corner of another street.
Kristina ran through the house and locked and closed everything she could. Locked the doors, sealed the windows, closed the curtains, and shut the lights. She ran downstairs to where her friends were, still getting over the fact that Jen was gone. Kristina left her friends by themselves for a good fifteen minutes. When Kristina got back downstairs, they were looking all over the basement, trying to find evidence or clues to what happened to Jen.
"But, the thing that kills me, is that, we didn't even hear someone come in. Were they stalking and...listening us the whole time? How long were they hiding? And where were they hiding?" Jillian was saying.
"It's just sooooo creepy. I mean, I was sitting right next to Jen the whole time. I didn't hear one thing/. Not even a footstep or breathing. It was like...the air took Jen. Because wouldln't you think that I would feel or hear something, epcially when I'm sitting right next to her? And how come whoever this kidnapper is didn't take at least two of us? Its like a mind game this person is playing with us. A game. Like hide and go seek, I swear..." Jess said.
    Hide and go seek.

    Remember That Night
Kristina slowly, with a shaky hand, put the phone down. She just stared back at it. And then she redialed.
    Silence....
    Silence....
    "Beep."
    Disconnected.
Kristina was too stunned to move. She got up and ran to her front door. If she go to her neighbors house they could put her and her friends at safety and this would all be over. She ran outside as fast as she could barefoot to her neighbor's door. Kristina rung the doorbell. Five seconds went by. Ten seconds. Twenty, thirty, fourty, fifty, one minute. It's not that they're asleep. It's not that they're out somewhere. This is all planned. They're. Not. Here.
She ran to her other neighbors house. She pounded on the door, hard at least ten times. A minute passed by. Two minutes. It was hopless. She pouned on the door one last time. She looked in the reflection of the door. There, was this innocent twelve year old girl, helpless and scared. Terrified. What had she ever done to deserve this? She had a great life. And now...is it ruined? She wiped tears from her eyes and blinked. Then, a black figure appeared from behind her in the mirror.
And the next thing she knew, blackness surrounded her.

    Remember That Night
Kristina just sat there. Then she started to cry. And cry and cry and cry. Now, all moments of when she disrespected her parents became more clear and highlihted and emphazised. It wasn't until now she realized and regretted all the times that she didn't listen to them, all the times she yelled back at them, al lthe times she'd ignored them. She remembered the saying 'you don't know what you having until it is gone'. That saying never had meant much until this moment.
Suddenly, Kristina realized that her parents were gone. Not exactly dead. But just...missing. She wasn't sure they were literally killed just yet.
Kristina ran to the phone. She dialed the 3 life-saving numbers that her parents engraved in her brain when she was at the mere age of 3. 9-1-1-. Her fingers trembled as she waited for the line to connect. Then, a raspy, muffled voice came on:
"Aw, honey, looks like you've gone to the last resort, huh? Did your mommy tell you that old trick, too? Call 9-1-1 and everything will be okay? Well, sorry to tell you this, but the line's down, sweety pie."
    And then they hung up.

    Remember That Night
    "Jen? JEN?"
    "WHERE IS SHE?!" Katie screamed.
"WHAT DO YOU THINK?! WE'RE HIDING HER UP OUR BUTT?!" Kristina yelled back.
"OMG. OMG. OMG." Jillian was hyperventilating.
    "M...M....MOM! MOM!" Kristina screamed.
"THIS ISN'T A JOKE GUYS! THIS. IS. REAL. JEN. IS. GONE." Jess said harshly.
"I have to tell...tell....my mom..." Kristina stuttered as she got up.
Kristina felt blood rush to her head and felt dizzy, like she was going to pass out. She held onto the railing of the stairs and felt drunk as she fell up the stairs in a hurry. When she got to the door she flung it open. She ran into her parents room.
"MOMMY! DADDY! HELP! MOM-" She stopped. How come the covers weren't moving and it was completely silent. She was sure that her parents were in bed, their bodies present underneath the sheets...
"M...Mommy...?" She took one step, then ripped the covers off the bed.
    Pillows. PILLOWS.
Laying gently on top of them was a little piece of paper, with red sharpie handwriting. Kristina picked it up.
"Who needs their mommy now? -S".

    Remember That Night
No sound. No movement. No breaths. Just nothing. Nothing at all. It was like the world just stopped. Like time just...haulted. Like it was stuck. No one could see one thing. Pitch blackness surrounded everyone. A sharp tang of chills appeared on Kristina's arms and legs, even though it was abuot 85 degrees outside. Emptiness was the new vistor in the basement. Kristina felt dizzy. Was this for real? She became doubtful again. Even though she kept telling herself that this was just another stupid, stupid prank, she had that tiny ounce of doubt in her brain that this was really happening, a real thing. Omg. Please. Get. The. Lights. On. This. Is. Scaring. Me. Please. Just. Turn. Them-
Suddenly, it was like someone who just woke up after 20 years of sleeping. Like being blind for your whole life and finally seeing. The lights instantly and sharply turned back on. Heavy breathing now occupied the room. They were all panting and their chests let out a huge breath, like they've been holding it for hours. The tension in the room was released, like someone released their grip on them. They looked around at eachother.
Eyes wandered, scared eyes. Creeped out eyes. Wondering eyes. Confused eyes. Quick eyes. Panicky eyes. Full of doubt, confusion and fear.
Kristina looked around. She was glad the lights were on, but WHAT THE HELL? SHe was about to just close her eyes and thank God all was okay, but she noticed something. Where Jen had been sitting, was now a blank space and incompletion in the circle of friends. Jen...Jen...just here....was...just...here...
    "Where's Jen?!"

    Remember That Night
    Chapter 5
Kristina stared at the tag. Was this another prank? Her friends were seriously annoying her tonight. Kristina faced Jen, assuming it was her that pulled the prank since she was the one who brought up the shoes.
"Jen! What if I wanted to take these shoes back? I can't bring it back with the tag all written over," Kristina said.
    "...What?" Jen said,confused.
"C'mon, I'm not that gullable. I'm not falling for one of your pranks this time," Kristina said, smiling.
"...No, honestly, I don't know what you're talking about," Jen said.
Kristina looked around at Jillian, at Jane, at Katie,(who was too involved in stuffing another cookie in her mouth) and at Jess. They all looked confused and a befuddled look in their eyes. But Kristina was not swayed by the act they were putting on.
"So you guys expect me to believe that this was just a coincidence that you pulled some prank on me only four hours ago? Do you think I am stupid? I am getting sick of these pranks tonight. If you think this is funny and that this whole sleepover is just a big bowl of funny, then you must be a horrible friend. I can't believe you people were considered my friends. You're ruining the night, if you haven't got them memo yet! Oh wait, you wouldn't realize it, because you're too selfish and nasty to realize that you just made a huge mistake," Kristina sharply scolded.
Kristina looked around at everyone. They just stared back in shock. No one moved an inch. Silence crept into the room. The only sound was the clock ticking. Tick, tock. Tick, tock. The hand of the clock ticked one last time. 12:00 AM.
And then, the lights went out.

    Chapter 4
It was 6:30 now and the sun was still shining through the windows of the basement. Kristina and her friends were doing their summer clothes exchange. They all brought their best clothes from their closets out of their bags and spread them out on the floor.
"Katie, do you get every shirt you have from Delias?!" Jillian asked, scanning Katie's shirts.
"My mom thinks all other stores are skimpy stores for twenty year old Victoria Secret models," Katie said upsettingly.
"KRISTINA! Give. Me. Those. Shorts. Now!" Jess reached for Kristina's pair of denim shorts with fringe on the sides.
"They're a size 3, you idiot! You're like a size 1/2! They're going to be WAY to huge for you!" Kristina said and took the shorts away before Jess could grab them. "And besides, these cost $40 from Bloomingdales, so you gotta give me somethin' REAL good for these..."
"Well...I have...this tanktop from Forever 21...um...this really nice cold shoulder top from Kohls...a Pacsun pair of shorts...anything good?"
"No. Nope. You just don't have the amazing style I was gifted with," Kristina said, battering her eyeslashes cheesily.
"Hey, how how much do those cost?" Jen said, pointing towards Kristina's 2 inch wedge sandals laying in Kristina's basement closet..
"Hmm...I didn't even wear them yet! Let me check the tag..." Kristina took the shoebox from her closet and scanned it for the pricing. She looked at the label. It read $24.99. She was just about to tell Jen the price when her eyes wandered down the tag to the very bottom, where there was red hand-writing. Kristina squinted and read the words:
So, you're a size 3 in shorts, huh? Interesting...

    Remember That Night
    Chapter 3
    "Hahaha, OMG!"
Kristina was still glued to her basement floor. Was that...laughter?
More giggling. Like 13-year-old-girl giggling. Popular, obnoxious, loud, non-stop giggling-
"GUYS?! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!" Kristina screamed and turned to look at her friends above her, laughing like hyenas.
Katie was dying of laughter, spazzing out on the floor, eyes wide, and laughing her signature laugh.
"Oh, shut up Katie!" Kristina said sharply to a Katie, who was currently having a mini-seizure.
Katie finally relaxed a bit, and uncrawled from her awkward fetal position. "It was a freakin' PRANK, Kristina, relax!"
"Um, it was MORE than just a prank! I seriously got scared! What about that robber on the news that broke in people's homes by Apple Ave*? You know, someone was SHOT and another was KIDNAPPED! And whoever had the freakin' nerve to push me to the ground is in for it," Kristina urgently and sternly said.
Her friend's smiles now were a little uneasy and full of doubt. Jen spoke first. Jen was such a true friend and never would lie or intentionally be mean to Kristina.
"We're sorry. We didn't think you would be so panicky," she apologized.
Jess finally admitted herself. "As pee-wee as I am, I knocked you down. Sorry. Geez, are you a body full of weight," she said humorously. But Kristina understood. Jess couldn't say an apology without some sarcasm.
"Thanks Jen. And...you aren't so great-looking yourself, Jess," Kristina said and smiled. Jane helped her up off the ground.
The friends just stood there, in silence.
"Well, it's not like our friendship is ruined! This is still going to be the greatest sleepover yet, right!?" Kristina excitedly said.
They laughed and forgot about the whole previous incident, and jumped on their blow-up matresses, watching the season premiere of Dance Moms, their favorite show in the world.
What would happen when the clock struck midnight?

    Remember That Night
    Chapter 2
It was 4:30 and the group was at Kristina’s house for the party. They were all staying in Kristina’s huge, finished, comfortable basement.
“Oh geez…okay…I got this…couple more steps…” Kristina was carrying down two scorching hot boxes of pizza. She was careful not to drop it – if she got one mark on the rug, her parents would freak out. “Okay guys, one double cheese, one regular.”
    No reply.
    “Guys…are you asleep already?!”
Silence. Kristina was still far enough up the stairs that she couldn’t see the complete room. She took three more steps down.
One more step, and she’d be at the bottom step.
    Step.
The room was empty of her friends. The half-eaten popcorn bowl, the Root beer, the cheese doodles, and all the plates were still there. The blow-up mattresses were the same as they were before she left to go upstairs. Kristina looked around the room, craning her neck to see everywhere.
“Guys…? Seriously, I’m getting scared…” Kristina said with a shaky voice. Her friends were big prank-people, but would they go far enough as to get Kristina this scared?
Kristina remembered the door that led to the backyard patio was unlocked. Could this not be a joke? Could someone, some robber, or kidnapper, really have taken all her friends?
“Oh my gosh, help...this…is…oh my gosh…” She felt sharp chills on her arms and her hands were getting sweaty because of the panic.
Then, a sharp, firm force from behind her knocked her to the ground. She felt the world whizz around her and her thoughts dragging her to think this was the end of a popular, pretty life.

    Remember That Night
    Prolouge:
They all knew something I didn't. It was like every one of us had a secret. We've had at least fifty sleepovers together already. Why was it this one? The room was silent. It was dark, even though the lights were back on. Even though it was just the five of us, it felt like there was still a presence lurking behind us. I was afraid to turn around, afraid to face a killer. This was going to be a long sleepover.
    Chapter 1:
Kristina, Jillian, Jen, Jess, Jane and Katie laughed down the hallway of AWMS. It was the last day of school. Everyone was wearing shorts and tanktops and flip flops and their hair up. The sunlight shined through all the windows of the school on the 90 degree day. Kristina was happy she had a double header softball game that day, Jillian and Katie were going out to eat togther, and Jane and Jess were hanging out at the library. It was a picture perfect day.
"OMG, I cannot believe this is the last day! The last day of 7th grade, only one more year in this school!" Katie said, smiling.
"Katie, shut up! Stop making us feel like our life is passing us by so quickly!" Kristina said. She didn't want the school year to be over - she wanted to stay a mere 12 years old and make every minute of her life the best ever.
"Finally, no more 50 math problems a night," Jess said with a roll of her eyes. Kristina and Jane nodded. They were also in G&T.
"Yeah, but what about that 100 page packet thing for science next year? We are never going to be able to do what we planned for the summer with that crap to do!" Jane said, annoyed.
"Whatever. YOLO, duh!" Kristina said, laughing.
They all agreed and sighed as they headed to 7th period. Kids from their grade turned to look at them and watched them walk by. They were the most popular girls in school. They wore the cutest outfits, had the prettiest hair, the perfect shoes and were all extremely rich. Everyone hed them for their beauty and popularity.
Today they were having their tradition of teh end of the year sleepover party, the party they've been having for 5 years. No one knew what they were in for that night. A true night to remember.
