Chapter 14
“Oh, mom,” Kate suddenly spoke up, “I was wondering if Lindsey, Jules, and Macy can stay over this weekend?” It felt like she was simply telling her mom, rather than asking for permission.
I was hoping that these three girls would be dorky, strange girls instead of pretty and popular like they probably were going to be. Back in Colorado, the kids that were in the plays definitely were not the people everyone gushed over. The theater kids were the weird people most of the school felt uncomfortable being around.
I also wondered how Kate would act with her friends. Right now she appeared very controlled and reserved, not normal for a teenager. She dressed very well, but at the same time it was very mature.
STOP, I told myself, do not analyze! But it was no use, analyzing is what I do best. I like to observe things about people and relate it to how the person they are.
Nancy finally responded, “Yes they may come over. Just use the SP room on the third floor.”
I didn’t even see a staircase on the second floor. I wonder what could possibly be upstairs. What more do you need in a house?
My father chimed in and informed me, “The SP room stands for slumber party room, and it’s where Kate normally has her sleepovers with friends. And now you can have sleepovers there too with her friends or invite your own”
A room solely dedicated to sleepovers, I was simply stunned.
“Wow, um, okay” I told him. I looked over at Kate and she looked unhappy.
We finished eating in silence and Rebecca began picking up our plates, it was like we were eating in a restaurant. The only difference was the absence of gratitude. No one thanked Rebecca when as she lifted the plates off the table and balanced them impressively on her arms. Not even my father thanked her, and that was so different than how he used to be.
As Rebecca came in front of and lifted my plate off the dark table, I said, “Thank you so much”.
She looked surprised and smiled at me while saying, “Your welcome, your welcome, de nada”
A Spanish maid! I could finally practice my Spanish, but I decided another time would be better.
