today, after school,
my younger sister, who's in third grade, brought home a friend to hang
out with for the day. they were talking about who they liked, and who / /
they're best friends are. my sisters friend says, "sammy's my best guy
friend, ever, but i like like him too." which i respond with, "oh, that is so
cute! does he go to your guys school?" she says, "no, he doesn't go to
school that often..he's in the hospitable most of his time. he's sick..
he got diagnosed with cancer this fall." i was shocked, "really? how old
is he?" she says "he's my age, he's nine." i felt horrible. "i'm very sorry,
what type of cancer?" she looks away and says, "i don't know, but all i
do know is he has to s h a v e his hair, and he had to get his leg cut
off, because the cancer was spreading all over his leg." i felt extremely
bad now.."i'm sorry to hear that.." i said to her. then the next thing she
said, touched my heart."alot of people stare at him funny, just because
he doesn't have a leg. and people call me weird because i hang out
with him. but i don't care what they say,because i love him, and when
you love someone, you love all of them.you don't skip over the parts
that make them ugly, or unwanted. you cannot just leave all the bad
things out. if you really do love them, like i love sammy, you find their
imperfections,
beautiful."

The treatment mentally challenged people get is awful.
I recently saw some quotes, that were very rude toward
mentally challenged people.
Even if it was a joke, they shouldn't have said things like that.
It raised my awareness toward the rudeness of some people.
My 15 year old sister is mentally challenged.
But, she has an amazing mind. She is in the highest
history class possible at our school. She always gets an A.
She has an phenominal sense of hearing that I can't
even begin to explain. She can listen to a song, and play
it seconds later on her piano. She taught me how to spell
supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. She remebers almost
drowning at the age of two. A year ago she and I attended a
William's Syndrome Convention. She realized a couple
minutes after we arrived that it wasn't just her imagination
telling her she was different. She asked my dad,
"Daddy, is there something wrong with me?"
He looked at her for a minute and the replied,
"Sweetie, you have a thing called Williams Syndrome."
And he explained to her what it was. And she replied,
"Does Emma have it too?" I then burst into tears and she gave
me a big hug. They have the biggest, boldest personalities.
At this convention they had to tell the kids to shake hands,
because they were too loving towards eachtoher.
As soon as you walk into the room, they make you feel better.
They may look and act different, but that's just them.
I am proud to call this teriffic person my sister.
People may judge my sister and me for this, but I have learned
amazing things from my sister. And, I couldn't be prouder.
*True story.
Please raise awareness of this. They are some amazing people.

I think we all need to learn a lesson from this:
A college professor was doing a demonstration to his students. He had
a big glass jar. He put several big rocks in it. He asked his students 'Can
anything else fit in here?' They all replied 'No.' Then he put small pebbles
in the jar. Several students gave a chuckle realizing they were wrong. The
professor asked again 'Can anything else fit in here?' They all replied 'No.'
Then he poured a bag of sand in the jar. This time almost all of the students
let out an almost laugh. Then he said 'The rocks are the important things in
life; your family, friends, etc.' 'The pebbles are the minor things in life which
come after the rocks.' 'The sand grains stand for all of the unnessacary things
in life.' 'If you were to put all the sand grains in first [the unnessacary things],
then the pebbles [the minor things], then the rocks [the important things], it
wouldn't fit. Therefore, you have to realize that family and friends come first.
