Chapter 1
I stepped out of my car onto the gray, dull, sidewalk on that Monday morning. I looked up at my new school: Independence Prep. I walked up the brick walkway leading up to the tall, towering, school. As I stepped through the glass double doors, I looked down the shiny, clean, cream colored hallways that were lined with bright red lockers, and after about five minutes of looking, I finally spotted my locker: D176. I quietly put in my combination and filled my locker with my books and binders. Then I grabbed my schedule and found my first class; Advanced History. I grabbed a pencil, notebook, and my history book, and I made my way down the hallway to the class room. The class room was a wood-paneled room with light brown oak desks lined up in rows. I took a seat in the middle of the classroom next to a group of excited girls talking about what they were going to wear to an upcoming party, I listened in on their conversation quietly, trying to figure out what the were saying. Out of nowhere I heard the bell ring to mark the starting of class. When everyone heard the bell they rushed to their seats before the teacher walked in. He was wearing a dark brown blazer with some khaki slacks. He wrote his name on the board "Mr. Browning" He introduced himself to the class and he told us our first assignment; it was to pair up in partners, and write a paper about a person in Americas history that inspired you. Everyone was excited until he told the class that he would be picking the partners, since I was new at the school, I was thankful that someone would have to work with me. He started to call out the names James and Lauren, Kirsten and Olivia, Garrett and Makayla, and finally Marissa and Andrew. Everyone looked around the class, and finally spotted me. Mr. Browning then said, "Oh Hi Andrew! I forgot to introduce you to the class! Go ahead and tell us some things about you!" So I reluctantly started "Well I'm Andrew but you can call me Drew or Andy or whatever. I love to play a bunch of sports, I play the guitar, I'm from Kempton, Illinois. Its really small it has like 230 people in it. And I had three little sisters." A bunch of the girls started to giggle and look at me. Then Mr .Browning said "We're happy to have you here Andrew!" For the first time today I thought it was going to be a good year, Mr. Browning said for everyone to get in their partners and start to do research. So Marissa came up to me and I could feel my palms start to sweat and my jaw dropped. She was absolutely beautiful. She had dark brown curly hair, golden brown eyes, and golden skin. She was wearing her red and white school uniform, and she looked perfect in it. She introduced herself in a bubbly voice " Hi Andrew! I'm Marissa! Its nice to meet you!" She had a welcoming smile on her face showing off her perfect teeth. So I quickly stuttered back "Hey Marissa! Its nice to meet you too!" And with that we started our project getting on the computer and looking up famous Americans and we decided on Thomas Edison because we wouldn't be able to see in the dark if it weren't for him! When Mr. Browning said to start getting back to your seats since class was over Marissa asked for my number and we exchanged numbers and promised to text each other some time. When the bell rang the class walked out the door into the bright hallway. I walked behind the big group of girls, which Marissa was talking to about me, I listened a little closer as all of the girls were talking about how cute I was and Marissa assured them all that I was hers, so they all giggled and separated skipping to their lockers. As I put in my combination a group of guys came up to me and introduced themselves as Garrett, James, Luke, and Logan. I recognized a couple of them from history. They seemed pretty cool and friendly so I grabbed my stuff for Band and walked with them to Band. They all played the saxophone just like me, it was like we were meant to be friends. They told me that they all played on the football team and they were wondering if I wanted to try out, so of course i was like "Of course, dude!" so they said "Cool! Come to the boys locker room after school and we'll talk to you about it some more!" I agreed and opened the door to the band room. It was a really nice room lined with brass instruments of all kinds. The teacher was named Mrs.Gogurt, she seemed pretty nice and told me that I sat next to the other saxophones; which were the ones who offered me to try out for the football team. I took a seat at the end next to James and I saw out of the corner of my eye that Marissa played the flute, she looked over at me and smiled. "She's so beautiful" I thought to myself. Mrs.Gogurt handed out music sheets that had the notes for a song called "Whisper" everyone started marking the song and people were complimenting me on my sax playing. It was actually a lot of fun. After class Mrs.Gogurt told me to just put my sax in the band lockers for and gave me the key to one. When I was walking back to my locker I passed by some girls who all came up to me and asked me questions about Illinois, and I told them that I owned a guitar shop there and they all blushed and asked me to sing them a song so I told them that I'd sing some other time since I had to get to my next class. After about 45 minutes in Advanced Communications it was time for lunch so I walked into the cafeteria and grabbed a piece of pizza and some milk and looked for a place to sit. A big group of guys and girls called me over and I took a seat in the middle of Garrett and Lauren. When Marissa walked into the lunchroom she saw me and asked Lauren to scoot over so she could sit by me, we all talked about how our Summers went and everyone asked me about Illinois and how I liked Independence Prep and I answered that everyone here was friendly and I was having a great day so far. Then they asked me if I wanted to go to Kirstens 15th Birthday party this Saturday and I said "Yeah I'd love too!" And Kirsten giggled and blushed a little. Kirsten was very pretty but I still had my eyes set on Marissa.
