    Confused
    Chapter Two
Let's start with seventh grade, where it all began, where the pain began to slap me in the face. I was signed up to go to a new school which meant leaving my old friends behind and making new ones. Easy, right? Wrong. I was completely wrong. It was the hardest thing ever. I couldn't introduce myself without feeling like a total fool. I was always afraid of feeling and looking like that. I was afraid of being rejected, of my classmates not liking me for who I was. All of what I was afraid of, happened. Oh, lucky me!
Since no one liked me and I was the new kid in school, I would get picked on. If it wasn't because of the way I looked, it was because of the way I spoke and thought. I would get made fun of so much that it became a normal thing to do. I began to expect the laughs and constant taunts. I was use to it all, but it didn't necessarily mean that I wasn't hurting inside.
I'd always have these long-lasting knots in my stomach. I'd always worry. I'm always frightened. Of what? What constantly gets me thinking? Why do I feel the way I do whenever I speak? Why do they suddenly laugh as I open my mouth? Why do they stare? Why do they do the things they do to me? Am I their target? Am I their entertainment? I mean nothing to them. I'm just someone they pick on and talk about. I don't think they've ever stopped to wonder what they are doing to me. Quite frankly, I don't think they care. As long as they get a chuckle out of it, they're absolutely fine.
Seventh grade was like a horror movie, but eighth grade was just the sequel. Not only was eighth grade the year of fake friends, but it was also the year of broken hearts. Yes, I do know I said that no one had liked me the way I wanted. Yes, I do realize that I said I would constantly get made fun of, but there's always that one boy who was different. That one boy who would make you laugh, smile and makes chills rush through your spine. That boy was Josh.

    Confused
    Chapter One
Picture this: a fourteen year old girl with dark brown hair and green eyes. She's having trouble finding herself in her first year of high school. She's having trouble knowing who her true friends are. She's been hurt so much that she's use to the pain. People tell her she's beautiful, but she begs to differ. She has trouble believing what people say to her since she's been lied to so much in the past. She has problems with trusting people with her secrets. Always afraid of someone else finding out. This little, confused fourteen year old girl is me, Maddie.
In short, my life is an out-of-control rollercoaster ride. I bought the ticket, got on the ride, thinking I could handle the crazy ride. But, as I continuously start going in loops, I start to feel sick to my stomach. I'm dying to get off the ride.
You're probably sitting there, thinking to yourself, "Why does this girl feel like this?" Well, sit back, relax and listen carefully to the story I'm about to tell which made me who I am today- an insecure, low confident teenage girl.

So Close, Yet So Far Away
    Chapter Ten
I laid in my bed, staring at ceiling with eyes full of questions. Continuously wondering why life was treating me like this. Maybe I'm just overreacting. Out of the blue, my phone rang. I weakly extended my arm towards it and answered.
    "Hello?" I said.
"Hey. It's Angela. Just wanted to know how you're doing." Angela said.
    "Not well." I said.
"Yeah, I know. I can tell. Let's talk about what happened. Want me to go over or...?" Angela said.
"No. I'll go over. I need to get out of my house. I'll be there in 5 minutes." I said.
"Okay. Let's stuff our faces with ice cream and talk!" Angela said, laughing.
"Okay, okay. I'm going to bring my guitar. Is that cool?." I said
    "Sure. Sure." Angela said.
"Okay. Bye." I said as I ended the call and got up to get dressed.
I dressed simple. I wasn't going to put on bracelets or necklaces. Just a simple, grey shirt with some black jeans.
    http://www.polyvore.com/melissa/set?id=39397502
I walked to Angela's house in freezing cold, forgetting to bring a sweater with me.
After 10 minutes, I made it to Angela's house and knocked on the door.
"Hey, Mel. Come in! It's freezing outside." Angela said, pulling me in.
"I forgot that it was winter." I said.
Angela laughed, "You're always funny, even when you're upset."
    I smirked.
When Angela and I were sitting comfortablely on her bed,
Angela said, "Okay. I've waited long enough. Tell me!"
"It's nothing really. It's just that ever since the party, Johnathan still hasn't talked to me. It's like he's ignoring me or something. And, I overheard a conversation between his friend and him and he said that he still likes Stacy. So, where does that leave him and I? Plus, Stacy was all up in my face almost kissing Johnathan." I said, looking at Angela's old, stuffed animal.
"You can't be so upset about Johnathan liking Stacy. You just have to try at least forget about it. I know it's not the greatest advice, but you just have to try. Who knows! Maybe you'll get over him or Johnathan might end up talking to you again!" Angela said.
After a long silence of me thinking to myself, Angela broke it off and asked, "So, why did you bring your guitar?"
"I wrote a song." I said as I grabbed my guitar that was laying in the corner of Angela's room.
    "Wanna hear?" I asked.
"Hell yeah!" Angela said, getting excited.
    "Okay." I said.
"Here it goes..." I said, as I began playing
"It's called, 'All I Ever Wanted'" I said, as I began to sing the song.
    I sang,
"I don't know how to put my feelings into words,
    but I'll try.
Let's just say when I saw you with her,
    I'm not gonna lie.
My heart literally broke into a million little parts, inside.
    But, you wouldn't know.
Well, you probably don't care, anyways.
    I'm just fading away.
    As the days, go on.
    Soon I'll be gone.
    So, who cares
    about the pain I feel?
    The tears I shed?
    But, 'She's a liar, it's not real'
    is what's gonna be said.
I don't even belong here, in your arms.
I'm just this stupid, little girl.
There's much better in this world.
And, clearly, you're already found it.
    And, clearly, you've shown you don't give a sh*t.
But, you're all I ever wanted."
After I finished singing my original song, I felt tears about to fall down my eyes, but I tried my hardest to hold them back.
I looked at Angela to see her reaction.
    She said, "It's really good."
    "Thanks." I said.
"You know, maybe you should sing it for the school's talent show that's happening on Friday." Angela suggested.
    "What? No." I firmly said.
"Come on! Take it into consideration!" Angela said.
    "Fine. I'll see." I said.

So Close, Yet So Far Away
    Chapter Nine
It was Monday moring when I walked to my locker to find Stacy waiting for me there. I tried my hardest not to make any sort of eye contact with her, but I had to talk to her since she was blocking my locker.
"Uhm, I need to get to my locker." I said to Stacy.
"Look sweetie..." Stacy said as she flipped her platinum blonde hair.
"Stay away from my boyfriend. Trust me, he's not into you. You're just this little girl. He's way out of your league, anyways." She continued.
"Apparently, out of yours, too." I whisphered to myself as I looked through my math book.
"I'll let that slide." Stacy said.
She then stared me down and walked away.
I slammed the locker shut. I was mad. Who was she to tell me who to see and who not to see? I'm going to do whatever I want whenever and with whoever.
Five minutes later, the bell rang. I had Math class which I shared with both Angela and Johnathan. I went to class and saw Angela.
    "Hey!" Angela said.
    "Hey." I quietly said.
"What's wrong? I expected you to be happy. I saw you two." Angela said with a big smile on her face.
"Yeah, but did you see what happened afterwards? Stacy saw us almost kiss." I told her with a frown on my face.
"Oh my God. What did she do?" Angela eagerly asked.
But before I could answer her, the teacher walked in.
"Take a seat everyone and pull your text books out." The teacher instructed.
I took a seat behind Johnathan, admiring his soft, black hair. Johnathan turned around. I smiled at him, but he just turned back around.
During class, I overhead Johnathan telling one of his friends that him and Stacy are still together and that he still likes her.
Maybe Stacy was right. Maybe Johnathan is just not into me. Maybe I'm just this little girl to him. I didn't know what to think. I was confused. I lost focus in class and just daydreamed of Johnathan and solutions to my problem.
    ---
I rushed home, deciding to ditch the bus and walk there. I didn't want to face Johnathan. I was too afraid to. As soon as I opened my phone, there were 5 new messages from Angela.
One read, "What's up with you? What's going on?"
Another read, "Dude, call me. We need to talk."
I texted back, "I just need some time to think."
When I got home, I went into my room, closed the door and then, grabbed my guitar. I kept on playing. Once I finished writing my song, tears just fell down my hazel eyes. Why was I so upset? Everything was fallng apart once they were finally coming together. Johnathan being that close to me was just too good to be true. He prefers Stacy anways. Why would he even fall for a little girl like me? A girl who's so stupid, unattractive and just... not worth loving? Like they all say, "Good things come to an end." and what was once a 'good thing' in my life, is now coming to a tragic end.

So Close, Yet So Far Away
    Chapter Seven
We were all sitting in the living room ready to watch Saw III. I sat in between Johnathan and Angela. We covered ourselves with a blanket and had a bowl of popcorn sitting on my lap.
"Let the screams begin!" I announced.
I looked at the corner of my eye to see if Johnathan laughed or smiled at my lame joke. Shockingly, he did.
"You're so lame." Johnathan said as he looked into my eyes.
We had some sort of moment.
"Alright. Shush! The movie's starting." Angela said.
    "Alright mom!" Johnathan said.
Thirty minutes into the movie, I saw blood. As soon as I did, I shielded my eyes. I hated stabbing, killing and basically, anything that would result in blood. It would leave me in disgust.
I unintentionally hid my head under Johnathan's arm.
    He whisphered, "You're scared?"
"No, but blood is just... not for me." I said, still having my head underneath his arm.
He giggled as he threw a piece of popcorn in his mouth.
"Well, the part's over. You can look now." Johnathan told me.
I slowly lifted my head up and looked up at the TV screen.
About an hour and a half later, the movie ended.
We had all fallen asleep on one another. I had fallen asleep on Angela's shoulder and she had fallen asleep on the armrest of the couch. As for Johnathan, he fell asleep on me. When I woke up, it was around 7pm. I woke up to find Johnathan already awake.
"Hey." Johnathan softly said when he saw me wake up.
"Hey. How long have you been awake?" I asked him while rubbing my eyes.
"Just got up. You're comfortable to sleep on by the way." He chuckled.
"Glad you enjoyed sleeping on me." I said, letting out a smirk.
"The lazy bum is still asleep." I said, looking at Angela.
"Yeah. So, uh, have any plans for tonight?" Johnathan asked as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"No, not that I know of. Why are you asking?" I said, running my fingers through my hair.
"Well, there's this party happening tonight at like, 9 or 10 at my house and I was just wondering if you can come." He said.
"You know, with Angela." He quickly added.
"Yeah. I can go." I said with a smile on my face.
"Great." Johnathan said while looking into my hazel eyes.
As I smiled, I looked down.
"You know, today was fun." He said.
"Even though we spent most of it sleeping, but it was fun." I laughed.
"I meant, you guys are not like Stacy. Stacy seems so different from you guys." Johnathan said.
I smiled because that probably meant that he liked me more than Stacy.
"I love Stacy and all, but..." He added.
Never mind. He doesn't like me more.
    "But what?" I hesitantly asked.
"I don't know. You see, that's just it. I don't know where our relationship is going." Johnathan said as he looked at me.
"What do you think I should do?" He asked.
    "I-I..."
Was all I could say because just then, Angela woke up. I felt relieved because I had no idea what I was going to tell him. I was never good with relationship advice because I have never had a boyfriend before. So, I wouldn't know how to cope with problems like these.
I looked at Johnathan and whisphered, "Sorry."
"No, it's okay." He said as he grabbed his things and headed for the door.
"Hey! You're still gonna come to the party, right?" Johnathan asked.
    "Yeah!" I replied.
    "Party? What party?" Angela asked.
"Party at Johnathan's house." I smiled.

So Close, Yet So Far Away
    Chapter Six
I walked up to Angela's house as the winds of October nearly blew me away. I climbed the two steps which were in front of the door and rang the door bell. Her seven year old brother answered.
"Hey Jake. Is your sister home?" I asked the youngster.
"Yeah. I'll go get her." He said as he ran off to get Angela.
"Hey Mel!" Angela said as she signaled to let me in.
"Hey. Let's party." I said as I danced foolishly.
Angela looked at me and began to laugh.
"I've taught you so well!" She said as she pretended to wipe her tears of joy away.
"Now, come on. Let's go to my room." Angela said as she sprinted off.
Just as we were about to sit down, the door bell rang.
"Strange. I wasn't expecting anyone else." Angela said as she went to go check.
"Hey! What are you doing here?" Angela welcomed the person at the door.
"Just decided to chill out here. I'm so bored at home." A deep, manly voice spoke back.
"Who could that be?" I whisphered to myself.
I heard footsteps and quickly tried to look presentable by fixing my long, dark chocolate brown hair and adjusting my sweater.
    http://www.polyvore.com/melissa/set?id=39189339
"Just go sit next to Melissa. I'll be there in a second." Angela said to the unexpected visitor.
    "Melissa!"
    It was Johnathan.
"Hey Johnathan." I said as I began to slightly blush.
"I didn't know you were here." Johnathan told me as if he were really excited to see me.
"How long are you staying?" He kindly asked.
"I don't know. I got here and I usually stay for hours, but it feels like a minute to Angela and I." I answered with a smile on my face.
Right when Johnathan was about to open his mouth to say something else, his phone rang. I didn't mean to look, but I saw a picture of some blonde and came to conclusion that it was Stacy, his girlfriend, calling.
"Hey baby." Johnathan softly said while on the phone with Stacy.
I looked down and almost felt the nerve to cry. How could I possibly be heart broken about Johnathan being with someone else if he was never mine to begin with? If he never even gave me a sign that he might actually be into me? If he probably never even saw me as more than just a friend?
"I'll just be outside." Johnathan whisphered to me.
    I nodded.
"I'm back." Angela said. "Where's Johnathan?" She asked.
I pointed to where he was standing.
"He talking with his slutty girlfriend." I angerly said while laying on Angela's comfortable, purple bed.
    Angela looked at me sorrowfully.
"Well..." Angela stopped herself from speaking because Johnathan had walked back in the room.
    "Never mind." She said.
"Sorry. I had to take it." Johnathan said.
There was an awkward silence between the three of us for a couple of minutes.
"Hey!" Angela shouted to get our attention.
"Let's go watch a movie. A horror or something" She suggested.
"What about your brother?" Johnathan asked.
"He went to bed." Angela answered.
"What a nerd. Who sleeps at 5pm?" I jokingly said.
    "I know.What a child!" Angela chuckled.

So Close, Yet So Far Away
    Chapter Five
As I saw Johnathan take a seat next to me, I looked at Angela, mouthing the words, "Oh my God!"
    She chuckled.
"Hey. Mind if I join in?" Johnathan asked while holding his lunch tray and getting ready to take a seat.
    "Ye-yeah." I nervously replied.
Why would he decide to sit next to me? Why wasn't he with his girlfriend? So many questions were running through my mind and all left unanswered.
"So, what's up Johnathan?" Angela asked.
"Eh. Sky, trees, birds maybe. " Johnathan slightly laughed at his lame joke.
Although it was lame, I smiled and giggled to myself.
Just then, he said while smiling and looking into my dark, brown eyes, "I feel like pinching your cheeks."
"Go ahead." I jokingly said while covering my cheeks which suddenly turned three shades of red.
"Cute." Johnathan told me as he took out his sandwich from a brown bag.
    I couldn't help, but smile.
    ---
"Ah! He said that I was cute." I happily told Angela as we walked out of class.
"I know! Oh. He's cute, you're cute. You guys could make some extremely cute babies. Just saying." Angela joked.
    "Perfect match." I said laughing.
"So, wanna come over to my house?" Angela asked as her and I walked out of the school doors.
"Sure. I'll be there at, what, 5?" I said.
    "4:59 please!" She said.
    "Alright. Alright." I said.
    We both laughed at ourselves.
"I'll see you there." Angela said while giving me a hug.
    I nodded.
"Hey!" A familiar voice said from behind.
"Oh hey Johnathan." I said as I turned around to see Johnathan walking up towards me.
"Going in the bus?" He asked.
"Yeah. What about you?" I said while walking towards the yellow, school bus.
"Now, I will." He said with a smile on his face.
God, I just loved his smile. It made me want to smile.
As we both walked up the steps of the bus, Johnathan sat next to me.
We talked and laughed a lot.
With every word being said by him, the more I trusted him, the more I felt comfortable to be myself around, the more I fell madly in love with him.
The bus driver dropped me off at a bus stop near my house.
"Thanks, Marry!" I said to my bus driver.
"Anytime, sweetie." She said while waving goodbye.
I walked out of the bus and turned to see Johnathan walking out as well.
Today must have been my lucky day since I did spend most of it with Johnathan.
"Hey! Wait up!" Johnathan called out.
"Where do you live?" He asked while looking at his phone.
"Just around the corner." I said.
"I'd walk you there, but four messages from mom isn't always the best sign." He said.
    I laughed.
"It's okay. Just as long as you give me a goodbye hug. I'll be fine." I said wondering if that was the smartest thing to say. I was worried about not getting the hug.
Then, he opened his arms and I hugged him while on the tips of my toes.
Johnathan was much taller than I was.
Once I hugged him, I got this amazing feeling inside. Thousands, more like, millions of butterflies floated in my stomach. It was so wonderful.
    I couldn't stop smiling.

So Close, Yet So Far Away
    Chapter Four
The next day at school, I saw Angela and Emma, a friend from English class. We all walked into the school hallways laughing and talking like how we normally do. As I turned to my right, I saw Johnathan and his girlfriend, Stacy. I know I've spoken about his girlfriend before, but I haven't really introduced her.
Stacy. She's classified as that popular girl at school. Stacy has it all. A big house, money, a car, lots of clothes, loads of admirers and... Johnathan. Almost every guy at school has hooked up with her. Stacy is known for that kind of stuff and she seems so proud of it. For Stacy to actually fall in love with someone would be an unbelievable miracle.
When Angela noticed me looking at Johnathan and Stacy, she grabbed my arm and said, "I'll take care it. Just watch." I was unaware of what was up her sleeve. Before I knew it, Emma, Angela and I were standing right in front of Johnathan. I was getting extremely nervous.
Angela said to Johnathan, "You know, Melissa knows how to play the guitar. You should hear her play. She's amazing."
Johnathan then looked at me and smiled as if he were impressed.
"Really, Mel?" Johnathan questioned as he walked towards me.
I loved it so much when he would call me Mel.
"Ye-yeah. I've known how to play the guitar ever since I was 9 or 10." I replied with a huge smile on my face.
"That's cool. So, do you write your own songs?" He asked.
"I do. Well, at least I try to." I said.
As we were talking, I noticed Angela and Emma slowly walking away while taking Stacy with them. A couple of minutes later, the bell rang and Johnathan walked me to my class since our class rooms were near each other. I had English, he had Physics.
After three long periods of English, Chemistry and Math, it was finally time for lunch. When Angela spotted me sitting at an empty lunch table, she rushed over and asked,
"So, what did you and lover boy talk about?"
"Nothing. We just talked." I chuckled.
"Oh. Sharing secrets, ay?" She joked as she took a bite out of her apple.
"No. Not yet I hope." I played along.
"Hey. Look! There's Johnathan. Should I call him?" Angela asked.
"Uh... No. What if Stacy comes along? You know how much I hate it whens he constantly brags about herself." I said.
"I hate it, too." She said.
"Okay. Well, if I don't find anyone next to him in the next five minutes, I'm calling him over." Angela continued.
Surprisingly, Johnathan came and sat right next to me at the lunch table.
    My mouth dropped.

So Close, Yet So Far Away
    Chapter Two
Although, giving Johnathan the key to my heart wasn't easy. I faced tons and tons of obstacles. I had trouble dealing with the fact that I might of have actually fell deeply in love with him. Falling harder and harder each day for this boy who stepped into my life a year ago, for this boy who has probably been with prettier girls than me. Rationally speaking, why would he even fall for a girl like me? It was all too risky.
Each day, I'd ask myself, "Do I love Johnathan?" and each day, that simple, four-worded question became harder to answer. Why? Because those thousands of butterflies that would erupt in my stomach whenever he would sit next to me or say my name, those nerves that would just explode. Also, the way my hands would shake like I just drank 10 cups of coffee and how I would stumble upon my words whenever speaking to him would make it hard to answer that mere question. It was all so new and it was all so unwanted. After a month of this questioning of liking Johnathan or not, I finally admitted it to myself that I might be falling hard for him.
With this brand new feeling, everything became... different. It became extremely difficult just to say Hi to Johnathan without stuttering. In class, my eyes would always look his way. Whenever Johnathan would look my way, I'd quickly turn around covering my face with my hand. Once my bus drops me off at school, I'd instantly start to look for him. Beyond any doubt, everything was out of the ordinary.
Those weren't the only changes that occurred in my life. There were also those sleepless nights, those countless hours of only thinking of him and those tears that I would shed. Oh, those tears! Tears, pain and misery became my clingy, next door neighbor especially when I heard those tragic words, "He has a girlfriend.".

So Close, Yet So Far Away
    Chapter One
He was standing right there in front of me. Johnathan was so close that I could hear him telling those silly, yet adorable jokes and laughing hysterically at them. He was so close that I could see his smile that just lights up the whole room. So close, yet he was so far away. I wouldn't dare say Hi to him because I knew that his heart was definitely taken by a girl who he gladly calls his.
Well, I should really introduce myself before telling you my story. Hi. My name is Melissa. I'm a 15 year old Freshman in High School. I completely love blasting my music, wearing hoodies, my friends, my family and... him. I'm probably just your ordinary teenager. However, there's a twist. I'm not like all those other girls in my school. I'm insecure and shy. The only person who I can definitely be myself is around my best friend, Angela and the only person who can undoubtedly take my breath away is, Johnathan.
First, Angela. Angela is my best friend in the whole world. She's always there for me whenever I needed a shoulder to cry or a good laugh. I've been friends with her for as long as I can remember. Angela has never turned her back on me and I'm 100% sure she won't ever do it.
Now, Johnathan. Johnathan is this amazing, adorable, smart, funny 15 year old boy. He has beautiful, light brown eyes, lovely, soft, dark brown hair and he also has my heart. Whenever I'm around Johnathan, my hands start to shake uncontrollably, my hearts races, I tug and pull at my clothes, I bite my lip, my eyes light up whenever I hear his name... Let's just say, out of all the words listed in a dictionary, there doesn't seem to be a perfect one to describe him or the way I feel around him. I've liked him for a little over a year. How did it all began? I'll tell you.
This undeniable love I have for Johnathan all began one day in 8th grade where I had had it with those coincided, obnoxious, attention seekers who I lie and call my friends. It was just too much to handle with their constant teasing and attitude. I guess, I just broke down. At that time, it just seemed like he was the only shoulder I could lean on.
Johnathan came up to me as he saw a frown on my face and tears starting to fall down my dark, brown eyes. "Are you okay?" He softly said."I- I guess..." I hesitantly answered. "Well, you sure don't seem like it." He replied nicely while taking a seat beside me. "Come on. Tell me what happened, Mel." He eagerly said as he leaned in closer. Without thinking, I just let it all out. I told Johnathan everything that was going on in my life and how I was just sick of it all. After I finished pouring my heart out, Johnathan was so sincere and very sweet. Shockingly, he understood. Once Johnathan understood, once I realized that he's not like everyone else, who would have judged me and laugh, he made me see him through a different perspective. Ever since that day, I guess, I just gave him the key to my heart.
