    The Beat of My Heart
    Chapter Two; Part Three
I finished brushing my teeth before walking out to get my phone. Deciding it could wait a few, I walked over to Jax.
"So, since you're home early and I've got wifey status... Does that mean you're going to stay the night tonight?" I said standing in front of Jax.
"If you want," Jax said nonchalantly.
"Are you freaking kidding me!" I exclaimed as I pushed Jax onto the bed while kissing him.
Jax pulled me into a gentle embrace, then quickly flipped me so that I was now the one lying on the bed. He kissed my lips, then my neck and then traveled down to my upper chest. For once I actually felt like everything was falling into place. I felt Jax make his way back up to my lips. We stared at each other for a minute and then started kissing again. I reached for Jax's shirt and pulled it off. He started to unbutton the shirt I was wearing and when he finished I undid his jeans. Throwing the clothes onto the floor, Jax was kissing my neck again. This time he kissed down my neck and all the way to my bellybutton before I just couldn't take it anymore. I gently pulled him back up to me and kissed him harder this time. I've never felt more in love with Jax than I do at this very minute. Everything was going to be different now. Jax cut off my train of thought and I was in ecstasy.
I woke up in Jax's arms the next morning. I've never been happier in my life. My mom was cooking breakfast. I could smell cinnamon pancakes and bacon. Dad must be home, I could hear voices downstairs, but couldn't understand what they were saying. I shimmied out of Jax's arm; careful not to wake him up, and walked over to my dresser to put on a pair of shorts. I brushed my teeth, washed my face and then walked down the stairs while putting my hair up into a ponytail.
"Morning Baby Girl," my dad said as I walked into the kitchen.
"Hey Dad," I said while stretching.
    "Jax upstairs?" He asked.
    "Yea, he's sleeping still."
There were already plates set on the table for the four of us. I decided to go back upstairs to wake up Jax while the food was still hot. When I got upstairs he was walking out of the bathroom.
"Hey Babe, smells good. What's for breakfast?" He asked.
"Cinnamon pancakes and bacon," I said kissing his cheek.
We grabbed hands then walked down the stairs.
"Congrats man," my dad said patting Jax on the back when we walked into the kitchen.
Jax smiled and pulled me closer.
    "He knew?" I asked Jax.
"Sure did. Helped me with a good percentage," Jax said still smiling.
"What are you guys talking about?" My mom asked.
"Umm. Mom, last night when Jax and I went out to dinner--,"I started to say before my dad cut me off.
"Jax asked her to marry him, Julianna."
"Oh. I'm so sorry I made you guys come home then," my mom said.
    "It's alright Mom."
"Why did then need to come home last night?" My dad questioned my mom.
"Well, umm, yesterday morning at the pier... The police found a young girl. They thought it was Blayne because the girl had a picture of our family. It wasn't her," she replied.
"You didn't call me?!" he exclaimed.
"It wasn't her," my mom said calmly and sat down at the table.
My dad walked over to my mom , kissed her on the cheek and then sat down across the table from her. We all ate quietly, and when we were finished we went and did whatever we had to do for the day. Mom and Dad went to the living room and watched TV. Remembering I had received a text before going to sleep last night, I headed upstairs. Jax followed me to my room and went into the bathroom to take a shower. I walked over to my phone, picked it up then opened it.
I ran down the stairs and almost fell half way down. Quickly turning the corner into the living room, I stopped in front of my parents.
"What's wrong Illiana?" my parents say together.
"I got a text from Blayne!"
"Really! What does it say?" my mom asked.
    "I don't know. Hold on a second."
I open my phone and read the text out loud.
"Hey Illy. Congratulations about you and Jax getting engaged! I'm doing great where we are. I've made tons of friends my age, but I do miss home. I've been thinking about coming back home soon. Tell Mom and Dad I love them and that me leaving had nothing to do with them. I hope they aren't mad. And the girl the cops found, she was a friend. Clarissa Jones is her name. I told her to go and find you guys to tell you I'm okay. Ill talk to you later. Love you."
"Well, I'm glad she's fine," my dad said.
I left my parents talking and went back upstairs. I closed the door when I got into my room and leaned onto it for a few seconds. Jax came out rubbing his head with a towel.
    "What's up Babe?" He questioned.
"That text I got last night. It was Blayne. She's thinking about coming home," I told him.
"Well that's great! Do you think she'll come back soon?"
"I don't know. I'll text her tomorrow. But I'm gunna go shower," I said walking towards the bathroom.
I turned on the hot water and let my hair down. When I got in I just stood there letting the water hit my chest. I didn't know if I was happy that Blayne was going to come back or not. It seemed like everything was great at home. My parents, mainly my mom, didn't have anything to worry about with it being just me at home. When Blayne was here she caused so many problems. Always skipping school to go and do whatever with her boyfriend. She was always stressing out Mom and Dad.
When I was finally done showering, I blow-dryed my hair before leaving the bathroom. It was going to be a boring day. I decided to put on my bikini and go to the beach for a bit. Jax called Keaton and Alexa to meet us there. The boys surfed while Alexa and I laid out for a few hours and talked.
"So what was up with dinner last night? You never texted me back," Alexa asked.
"This is what dinner was about," I said flashing her my beautiful ring.
"Oh, my, God!! Illy it's freaking beautiful!!"
"It's the one I'd look at every time I went to the mall. He's a pretty good observer," I said glancing at Jax.
"No kidding," Alexa said looking at her ring.

    The Beat of My Heart
    Chapter Two; Part Two
"Is this your daughter Mrs. Dawson?" the detective asked.
"No, no it isn't," my mom said as she wiped her eyes and turned away.
We left after the false identification; Mom rode in the car with Jax and I on the way home. It was reassuring to know it wasn't Blayne who was found earlier that morning. I don't know how well Mom would have been able to take it, and my dad, I'd probably see him once a month instead of just on Sundays when the office was closed.
I'd wait a couple of weeks to tell my mom that Jax and I are now engaged.
When we got home Jax went into the kitchen to make some tea for us.
"Illiana, have you tried calling your sister lately?" she asked.
"No Mom. I figured if she wanted to talk to me she'd call me on her own. Have you called to find out if her cells even been used since she left? I replied.
"Yes, Illiana, I have. They can't tell me anything."
Jax came out of the kitchen with two cups of tea. I don't think my mom likes talking about Blayne being gone around Jax. She turned on the TV and started watching a documentary. Jax and I headed up the stairs to my room.
I hung my coat up on the back of my door as Jax sat down on my bed. I walked over to my computer and plugged my cell phone into its charger. Deciding to text Blayne I reached for my phone. Right as I did I received a text.
Alexa: Why were all those cops at your place tonight?
    She had the worst timing.
Me: They thought they found Blayne this morning.
Alexa: So it wasn't her then?
    Me: Nope.
Alexa: How'd your mom take it?
    Me: IDK.
    Alexa: I'll leave you alone.
I didn't text back. Then a few seconds later I got another text.
Alexa: Wait a sec. So what was up with dinner tonight?
I looked at my hand and smiled. I'll text her back later, right now I needed to text Blayne.
Me: Blayne, it's Illy. Jax asked me to marry him today. I want you to be here for the wedding. Don't worry, we have no idea when or where we want it. Haven't even talked about it. Blayne, today the cops found a girls body at the pier. She had a picture of our family. Why? Was she a friend of yours? She was about your age, had brown hair and pale skin. Blayne, please text me back so I can tell Mom you're alright. She's worried sick about you, esp. with what happened today. I love you.
I set my phone back down knowing I wouldn't get a text from her anytime soon. She never did like using her phone. I turned back to my computer and decided I didn't want to use it tonight and shut it off. I walked over to Jax and pounced on him.
"I love you. I love you. I love you," I said kissing him.
"I love you too Babe," he said after kissing me back.
"I'm glad that wasn't Blayne tonight,"I said as I got up to change into my pajamas.
I decided to wear one of Jax's striped button-up shirts. I took off my purple shirt, put on Jax's, then took off my pants. The shirt was long and came to the middle of my thighs. Jax was watching what I was doing, I could feel his eyes on me. I walked into my bathroom to brush my hair and teeth.
"Hey Babe, you got a text," Jax said loud enough for me to hear.

    Chapter Two; Part One
I look up at Jax; shocked.
"What is it Illiana?" Jax asks, scrunching his eyebrows together.
"My mom says I need to get home now," I say getting worried.
Jax calls Alessa over, asks for boxes and the check, we pay, and then we’re hurrying home. The 20 minute drive from Abele’s to my house seemed to take forever. It was 8:45 PM by the time we finally got back. There were so many police cars; the street looked like there were millions of Christmas lights up. The second we pulled into the driveway I was out of the car and running up the lawn. I was in front of my mom before Jax even had the car in park.
"What are all of the police doing here Mom?" I questioned; worried.
"They—Your--," was all she could say before she started to cry again.
Jax was by my side; I looked at him with a worried expression.
"Excuse me, Officer; why are you here?" Jax asked.
The officer walked over and said, "We found a young girl at the pier this morning around 7:30. She looked to be about 14 or 15, and she had a picture of the family who lives here in her pocket."
My sister, Blayne, had been missing for a while now. Missing; if that’s what you want to call running away with your 16 year old boyfriend. My mom was the first person to find the note Blayne wrote when she left. It said something along the line of she’d be home when she got sick of her boyfriend and wherever they’re at. She assured my mom nothing would happen to her because her boyfriend would take care of her. I remember love at that age. Hopelessly romantic, falling for anyone who would tell me they love me, but then I met Jax. Blayne running away tore my mom and dad apart. My mom became obsessed with knowing what I was doing 24/7, and my dad became devoted to his work at the firm. She was stupid for running away.
"Maybe it’s not Blayne," I said turning to face my mom again.
"Ma’am, you have to come to the Coroner’s and identify the body," the officer said to my mom.
"Right," she said turning to go inside.
When she came back out she had her coat on. My mom rode in the police car; Jax and I followed behind them. It was a silent drive. No music and no talking. When we finally got to the Coroner’s two detectives escorted us into the viewing room. The coroner looked up, nodded at the detectives, then pulled back the blanket; showing the young girls face.

    The Beat of My Heart
    Chapter One; Part Four
I look at Jax for a few minutes and try to figure out what he's hiding.
"You're not going to break up with me are you?" I mutter.
"What? Why would I do that?" Jax asks with a shocked look on his face.
"I don't know. When I told Alexa about you wanting to take me out to dinner tonight she may or may not have suggested that you might break up with me," I said shyly.
"That's not the case. Not the case at all," said Jax with alacritous. "I just want you to know I love you, and how much I love you. I would never even imagine breaking up with you," He said while reaching for my hand.
"You're right. Sorry I made a big deal out of seemingly nothing," I said looking down.
"It's alright Babe, just please, please, don't think like that again. I would never hurt you," He assured me.
We kissed and then Alessa was back with our food. She put our plates down and walked away without saying a word. That's when Jax looked at me.
"Illiana, I do have something I need to tell you though."
I finished chewing the bite I had just taken, set my fork down, and glared at Jax. My heart was going a mile a minute and I had an unusual amount of butterflies flying around in my stomach. Suddenly I wasn't hungry anymore.
"Jax, pause what do you need to tell me?" I hesitantly ask.
"Illiana, when I met you that day in the hallway my Junior year, I knew that one day you would be my girlfriend. Never would I have thought that we would be together for almost five years. Your house is like my second home, and I have no idea what I would do without both you and your moms never ending support. Illiana, when I looked up from the ground after we ran into each other, and I looked into your eyes, I was speechless. No girl at that school, Freshman to Senior, no girl, compared to you. Now it's been four years and ten months since I asked you to be my girl, and I think that we ne--"
"Jaxson, look, if you're going to break up with me you can do it without the long speech. Two word. We're done. That's all it takes," I say while getting up.
"Illiana," he said grabbing my hand, "I think that we need to get married. I've never met a girl like you, and I don't want to sleep next to any girl but you for the rest of forever."
"Oh," was all I could get out.
"So, Illiana Skyy Dawson, will you, be my wife?" He said fumbling to pull a box out of his pocket.
When he finally got the box out of his pocket, opened it, and held it out for me to see, his hands were shaking. He was starting to look a little bit worried. I looked at the ring again. I realized it was the ring I would stop and look at when we walked past the store in the mall. The ring was a vintage style with a princess-cut diamond framed by round diamonds. There was scrollwork on the sides. 39 diamonds total. I started to smile.
"Illy, it's 1 1/3 carats. I saw that you would always look at it when we went to the mall. It was cute how you never wanted me to notice," He said coyly.
I lean in and kiss Jax on his cheek.
"Yes Jaxson! Yes!" I said with gladden.
"I had a little help from both our families to get it for you, that's why I went to see my grandparents and I was buying it for you when I told you I was shopping with my dad," He said while slipping the ring on my finger.
"It's perfect Jax! Remind me to thank everyone for helping. It's perfect!" I said as I received a text.
    It was my mom.
Mom: Illiana you need to get home NOW!

    Chapter One; Part Three
I'm staring out the window listening to 'If It Means A Lot To You' by A Day To Remember, when Jax interrupts me.
"What's wrong Illiana, you haven't said a word since we got in the car?"
"Nothing's wrong Jax. I just don't like not knowing where I'm going," I say giving him a look because he called me by my real name.
"Don't worry, we'll be there in about five minutes," he assured me.
Then I return to gazing out the window, but not before my phone buzzes at me. It was Alexa.
Alexa: So, did he tell you what's up with dinner?
Me: No! He won't even tell me where we're going.
    Alexa: Oh. That sucks.
I'm starting to suspect that Alexa knows something I don't.
Me: Alright Alexa, spill whatever you're not telling me.
Alexa: I don't know anything. Swear.
Me: Don't lie. I know you know something. So where is he taking me?
Alexa: He's taking you to dinner.
Me: Right, because I didn't know that already.
Alexa: Sorry Girl, don't know what to tell you.
That was really weird. She has to know about Jax's plans. Keaton is one of Jax's friends, which means that Keaton has to know, so Alexa has to know too. Jax must have seen the puzzled look on my face.
"What's that look for?" He asks.
"I think Alexa knows what you're planning tonight, but she won't tell me." I say giving him puppy-dog eyes.
"Well, we're here." He says, as we pull into Abele's, my favorite Italian restaurant.
We walk through the doors, and the smell of bread and wine hits us. Abele's has been my favorite place to eat since Jax took me here two years ago for my birthday. It looks like a little restaurant from a glance, but when you walk in you see how big it really is. There's three different dining rooms, a fireplace, and a section in the back for their Friday night DJs. They have the walls painted so you feel like you're actually in Italy. The added bonus of this place; it's built pretty much on the water, so if you get a seat by the wall you get to watch the sun set.
"Reservation for Illiana Dawson," Jax tells the hostess.
    "Two?" She questions.
    "Yes," Jax answers.
    "Right this way," she says.
I was excited when she took us to a seat overlooking the water. The sun was already starting to go down, and the sky was beautiful hues of purple, pink, and blue.
"Hi there. I'm Alessa, and I'll be your waitress tonight. Can I start you guys off with drinks or appetizers?" She says, interrupting my sky-gazing.
"Yea, I'll take a Coke. Illy, what do you want?" Jax asks.
"Umm, I'll just have a water for now," I say, turning back from the window.
"Great. I'll be back with your drinks," Alessa says as she pivots away from our table.
"It's so beautiful. I could watch the sun set all night," I exclaim.
"I could watch you all night," says Jax.
"Umm, that's creepy," I say while making a face.
We sit in silence for a little bit before our waitress, Alessa, is back with our drinks.
"Do you guys know what you want?" Alessa asks.
This time I'm first to answer.
"Yea, I'll take the fettucini alfredo topped with shrimp."
"I'll just have an order of the three cheese raviolis," Jax tells her.
"Alright then. I'll see you guys in a few," Alessa tells us turning around.
I watch her walk into the back where they place orders. In a way, she was skipping. I wonder what that's about. Then I turn to face Jax. He looks at me with such a yearning, it's adorable, but he looks like he's trying to hide something too.

It was 4:30pm already, and I wanted to get all cute for dinner tonight. Jax wanted to see his parents for a little bit before going out, so after getting home he hopped in his car and headed home. Bzzzz. Who could possibly be texting me right now, I asked myself. I took my phone out of my pocket and
pressed unlock. It was my best friend Alexa.
Alexa: Hey girl, can I come over for a little bit?
Me: Yea, sure, but Jax and I are going out to dinner at 6:30, so I'll be getting ready while you're here.
Alexa: Alright. See you in 7!!
Alexa and I have been friends since 4th grade, when I moved from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to Newport Beach, California. Alexa was the only person who talked to me when I walked in the doors at my new school. Her and I share everything; secrets, clothes, shoes, and we even plan on going to the same college once summer break is over.
Alexa walked into my room as I finished blow drying my hair. She sat herself down on the chair behind me so I could see her in the mirror as I did my make-up.
"So, why are you and Jax going out to dinner tonight?" She asked.
"I don't know. Jax told me that it's because we haven't been able to go out in a while, but this morning when we were eating breakfast he told my mom that he wanted to surprise me with a little more than just him being home early. Whatever that means." I said as I pulled on the purple shirt that everyone says 'brings out my eyes.'
"Well, did you ask him about it?"
"Yea, and that's the thing. He told me just to trust him with this one."
"Oh. Maybe he's breaking up with you."
    "Really Alexa? Over dinner?"
    "Who knows."
"So, why did you need to come over so bad?" I questioned her.
"Well, you remember how Keaton and I bought a house together right?"
    "Yea..."
"I don't know if I should tell you."
"Oh my god Alexa, just tell me!!"
"He asked me to marry him!!" She said showing me her ring. The ring was beautiful. A small, yet good size, square cut diamond with another smaller stone on either side.
"Oh. Wow. It's... Beautiful. Congrats." I said.
"Thanks. We're planning on getting married the end of next month."
    "July? Really?"
"Sure thing. Right before school starts in August."
Alexa and Keaton are just like Jax and I; inseparable. We normally did double dates with each other, but after she became closer to Keaton, and I to Jax, we decided it would be better to get time in alone with our guys. Bzzzz, my phone again. It was Jax.
Jax: Hey Babe, I'll be over in about 15 minutes. Just finishing up shopping with Dad. See you soon Love <3
Crap. 15 minutes. I don't even know what jeans I want to wear, and I haven't even finished my make-up yet!
Me: Alright Babe, See you when you get here. I love you XD
Jax: I love you too Dear.
I walk over to my closet and rummage through my jeans. I have it narrowed down to two pairs quickly.
"Light or dark?" I ask Alexa, holding up each one.
"Umm.. Why don't you wear your dark ones with the holes in the knees?"
"Because I don't know where we're going to dinner at."
"Oh. Then go with the dark jeans."
"Thanks biaa!!" I said as I quickly pulled on the jeans.
I did a quick run though of my hair with my straightener, then pulled my bangs back into a little poof. Alexa wanted to do my make-up; with a sigh I let her. When she was done I got up and walked over to the mirror. Wow, I looked amazing. Alexa said that she had to go, we hugged then she left. Bzzzz, my phone again. Once again it was Jax.
Jax: I'm right down the street. See you in 2 seconds.
I didn't text him back. The butterflies in my stomach floated me down the stairs, and to the coat closet under the stairs. I grabbed my gray zip-up and turned around right as Jax walked in the door.
"Hey Babe," he says closing the door behind him.
"Hey, so is what I'm wearing alright?" I asked.
    "You look perfect Babe."
"Yea, thanks. So where are we going?"
"You'll find out when we get there."
    "Babeeeeee," I pleaded.
"Come on, lets go. We're going to be late for our reservations." He said walking me towards the door.
We get to the car and he opens the door for me. It must be something really special, I thought, he never does this. Jax puts the key into the ignition and puts the car into first, then we're on our way to where ever he's taking me.

    The Beat of My Heart
    Chapter One; Part One
"Good morning Raven," I say to my dog as I turn off my alarm.
I walk over to the mirror hanging from the back of my door, see my turquoise colored eyes are a tad blood shot, wipe off yesterdays makeup, and then turn on my straightener. As if I really needed to straighten my hair though. This blonde mess never did anything but a little wave. I straighten it any ways, just enough so that my bangs will stay on one side of my face. I have just enough eyeliner on to not have to put any on today. That was always good. Ggggrrrbbleeee... My stomach is talking to me, time to see what my mom cooked up for breakfast.
"Hey Illiana. Sleep well?" asks my mom.
"I would sleep better if I had that new bed you promised two paychecks ago. And Mom, it would be nice if you started calling me Illy. Illiana is just so--" I started to say before someone cut me off.
"Illy, be nice to your mom. At least you have a mother figure that loves you no matter what" he whispered in my ear.
I turn around and it was Jaxson, my boyfriend of four years, finally back from visiting his grandparents.
"Ohh Jax you're back! I missed you so much, you have no idea."
"Illy, I'm pretty sure I missed you just as much if not more," he said in his calm but assertive voice.
"So, what's for breakfast Mrs. Dawson?" Jax asked, and I heard another grumble.
"French toast, bacon, and fruit. That is unless you two want something else," she said.
I grabbed myself a plate, loaded it with four pieces of french toast and two pieces of moms' infamous turkey bacon, then took a bowl out of the dishwasher to put some fruit in. Jax did the same. I waited for him to finish putting what seemed like all the food onto his plate, then we walked over to the table together. I sat across from Jax, like we always did, and just stared at him for a while; glad he was finally home. I knew Jaxson was my 'soul mate' when he bumped into me in the hallway my freshman year. He was the out-spoken, yet overly attractive boy on the baseball team. His grass green eyes and his perfect smile are what reeled me in. I noticed Jax cut his hair since I've seen him last, he no longer had curly sandy blonde hair, it was cut just long enough for him to spike it. Different, but cute on him.
"Illy. Why are you staring at me?" he asked playfully.
"Sorry Jax, just remembering when you ran into me the beginning of my freshman year," I said.
"When I ran into you, you mean when you ran into me!" he said playfully.
"I guess," I mumbled, shoving a bite of french toast into my mouth.
"So, what's on the agenda today?" my mom asked.
Before I had a chance to answer, Jax says "Well, seeing as I'm home a few days early, I wanted to surprise Illiana with a little more than just me being home early." I'll have to ask him what that was about when we get away from my mom. She was always too nosey for my liking.
Finally, after finishing our breakfast, we got away from my mom. I turned on my computer and signed into my WittyProfiles account to scan through the quotes.
"What's wrong babe?" Jax asks. He could tell something was up.
"What did you mean when you said you 'wanted to surprise me with something a little more than just you being home early?'" I questioned.
"Illy, you know I don't like keeping things from you, but you're just going to have to trust me on this one."
"Okay Jax. I'll trust you. But no more secrets after this alright?"
    "Deal babe."
"Well, since we have nothing to do, we should go to the beach." I say, throwing Jax his swim trunks.
I grab my black and teal Hurley bikini and walk into my bathroom. I didn't want to have make-up on at the beach. I walk out as Jax is tying the strings on his trunks. The blue in the trunks make him look very tan, his abs were amazing. I always loved going to the beach with him. Something about knowing that he's mine; those are my abs.
I grabbed a bag and put two towels and tanning oil into it. Jax and I decided to walk the 15 minutes from my house to the beach. Finally, when we got to the beach, I laid down my towel
and threw Jax's at him playfully.
"That's war!" he said picking me up and running into the water.
"No Jax don't! I don't want to get my hair wet!" I pleaded.
Too late, I was already up to my neck in the deep blue water. I swim away from him, but he catches up before I'm even five feet away from him.
"Hey Babe, wanna go out to dinner around 6:30 tonight?" Jax asked.
"Yea, sure. What's the occasion?" I asked back.
"Oh nothing. We just haven't gone out in a while." he said.
I wonder what he's planning. I thought to myself. We swim around for a little bit longer and then I walk up the beach and to my towel. Some of Jax's friends show up, and they start throwing a football around. I could hear Jax and his friends talking, but couldn't understand what they were saying.
