so yesterday i was babysitting five kids under the age of nine (i know, i know, i'm practically jesus. shhh.) and one of them was an 8 year old boy called Corben. basically, he developed a huge crush on me after i told him i liked star trek and dragons, and he kept hitting on me the entire time and it was hilarious and also adorable.
alana (his six year old sister): oh wow, you're so good at lego. you're magical.

So I like Disney movies as much as the next girl. I mean, come on I basically grew up on them. But lately I've been thinking that they set completely unrealistic expectations for young girls. Like, completely.
Every Disney movie ends with a 'happily ever after.' I don't want to be a debbie downer, but life doesn't always end happily ever after. Life is not easy most of the time, and making girls think that life will always work out perfectly is not beneficial.
Then there's the whole prince thing. In the princess movies, it always follow the same format: a beautiful young girl with a hard life (aka a damsel in distress) gets into some sort of trouble and in the end, a handsome prince magically shows up to save the day and ride off with her into the sunset. ? Where did he come from? How did he know that a young girl was poisoned by apple somewhere in the middle of the forest? Or that a blonde girl had a sleeping spell put on her at the top of a tower?
I don't know about you, but the chances of anyone finding this so-called perfect 'prince' is highly unlikely. And it's rather disappointing because as a kid, I was taught that every girl will have a prince.
But now that I'm older I realize: no. Not everyone will have this fairytale life. Not everyone will end up riding a white horse off into the sunset with a rich guy who has really fancy clothes.
So, yes, this has been extremely pessimistic and I apologize for slamming Disney movies. I do still love them.
I just needed to rant.

It annoys me to no end when people say "she asked for it" when a girl is sexually assaulted.
No, she didn't. She exercised her freedom of expression and dressed/acted the way she wanted to. If a man is really that unevolved that he can't control his urges then HE should be the one who is ashamed. HE should be the one who "asked for it" becsause he did. Her choice of dress had nothing to do with what HE did to HER.
