    Chapter 25
    Hayden's Point of View
When I arrived at school the next morning, all eyes landed on me.
I shuddered, obviously not liking all of the individual attention I was recieving.
"Do you think it's true?" I heard a girl ask.
    "That's her!" one boy pointed.
I swallowed, as I kept my head down.
I approached my locker, twisting the lock combination until it clicked open.
The next thing I knew, a hundred copies of papers came flying out of my locker, all landing in a messy pile around my feet.
"Is it true that your dad is a psycho?" Maddi snarled from me behind, holding an article.
My heart sank, as my eyes widened.
My hands trembled, as I bent down to retrieve a copy.
My eyes scanned over the familiar words, as tears welled up in my eyes.
I glared at Maddi, as she smirked at me.
"If you aren't going to answer, I'm going to assume these articles are true." she said in a sugar coated voice, eyes sparkling with a glint of evilness.
I clenched my fists my my sides, unable to speak.
How is it possible for a human to be so evil?
"Hey, what's up with the crowd?" a voice suddenly asked.
My head whipped over to the side, as Hunter entered the scene.
He was smiling happily, but his grin dropped once he saw Maddi and I in the center.
He frowned, as his eyes trailed down to the piles of papers on the floor.
"What's going on?" he asked with confusion.
Maddi strutted her way over to Hunter, as her hips moved from side to side.
Her arms suddenly wrapped around his biceps, as she rested her head on his shoulder.
"Read for yourself, babe." she said innocently.
I watched as her manicured fingers waved the article in Hunter's face.
Hunter looked hesitant, as he stared at me.
I cursed under my breath once Hunter got a hold of the papers.
His eyes ran over the paper.
I sucked in a deep breath, unable to read his expression.
Once he stared back up at me, his face paled.
Hunter probably thought I was insane now.
Insane, just like my father was.
He probably wanted to stop hanging around me now, it would ruin his reputation... even more.
"She's crazy, babe, I'm telling you." Maddi warned, staring at me like an unknown creature.
I tore my gaze from Hunter, as I stared at the ground.
My legs suddenly picked up, as I began to run.
I pushed through the thick crowd, not caring if I hurt someone.
I sprinted down the hallways, escaping the evil school.
I ran and ran, until I was breathless.
I finally came to a stop where I bent over, pressing my palms agaisnt my knee caps.
My breathing was fast and heavy, as I saw my breath come out from my mouth.
When my heart rate slowed down, I took the time to look at my surroundings.
My hands shook as I realized that I was at the bad side of the town.
There was garbage scattered across the street, and drug dealers walking around.
I've heard stories about murders from this side of town.
The people here did things worse than my father could ever do.
There was once a story about a woman, who was held hostage for months.
She was promised by her kidnapper that she would be released, but she never was.
She was found dead, and completely burnt on the roof of a run down apartment building.
There was also another story where-
"Be quiet little girl. you're coming with us." someone suddenly hissed in my ears.

    Chapter 10
"Are you seriously still upset about that stupid picture?" Ashley asked me later that day.
I avoided eye contact with the snobby socialite, as I continued to read the novel in my hand.
"Just take another picture of him, it's no big deal." she rolled her eyes.
I continued to ignore her, as I clenched my grip around my book tightly.
I was biting down on my tongue, trying to avoid tears from spilling out.
    If only she knew...
"You really aren't going to say anything? You're such a drama queen." Ashley snickered.
She flipped her brown extensions over her shoulder.
She walked by my desk, knocking my book away fom my hands.
She gave me a cold smirk, as the book fell on the floor.
I let out a devasted sigh, as I bent over to retireve my book.
"Here." Hunter said, holding me the book before I got to touch it.
A ball bobbled up and down my throat, as I hesitantly took the book from his hands.
"Thanks." I muttered under my breath.
I wondered if Hunter knew about the incident from this morning.
I dropped my shoulders, sinking back in my seat.
Hunter probably heard everyone talking about it.
He probably thought I was pathetic, being so protective over a photo.
I clenched my fists, shutting my eyes tightly.
It was the only picture I had of Cameron.
Hunter pulled up a chair to my desk, as he leaned over it.
I could feel people staring at the two of us.
I shifted uncomfortablly in my seat, trying my best to avoid his stare.
"So, do you want to go somewhere after school with me?" he asked.
    I raised my eyebrows.
    He was so straight forward.
"I-I mean as friends." he quickly added.
My heart dropped to my gut, as I licked my lips nervously.
    Of course, just as friends.
No one would ever like me more than that.
    "But, didn't you hear what-"
"I don't care what happened earlier today. That doesn't change my prospective of you." he smiled shyly.
I bit back a smile, sucking in deep breath of air.
"Then, in that case, sure." I nodded.
The bell rang, signalling for the last period, as we both stood up.
"Great, I'll wait for you by my car." he paused. "Try not to be late this time." he joked.
    ~*~*~
"Where are you taking me?" I asked.
I stared out the window, unfamiliar with my surroundings.
We had to be in a different town, at least.
"Just wait and you'll see." Hunter assured.
We continued to drive in silence for what seemed like an hour.
I wasn't brave enough to speak, and Hunter looked like he had something on his mind.
We finally pulled up to a deserted area, with dusty grounds.
"Are you okay with walking a little bit?" Hunter asked.
I nodded, as I followed his way up towards a cliff.
The cliff wasn't too steep, but it did take a while for us to reach the top.
As we got on the top, the sun was just setting.
My knees became wobbly, due to the fact that I was never used to heights.
But, I had to admit that the view was gorgeous.
Below us was what looked like a mass variety of trees, and above was a clear view of the sunset.
"I like to come here, to escape society." Hunter whispered.
We sat on the groud, both mesmerized by the beauty.
"Hayden, there's something I need to ask you about what happened earlier today..." he started.

    Chapter 11
"Was that picture really your little brother?" Hunter asked.
I let out a huff, pressing my chin against my knees.
"So, people are actually talking about it, huh?" I mumbled, as the sky turned pink.
Hunter rubbed the back of his neck, giving me a sympathetic smile.
    "Y-yeah." he admitted.
I let out a sigh, playing with the ends of my brunette hair.
"It's actually my older brother." I whispered. "It's just an outdated photo of him."
Hunter gave me a small smile, staring at the sunset.
"Do you have the picture with you right now?"
I hesitantly nodded, reaching in my bag to get it out for him.
I handed him the frame, where half the glass was gone, and the other half was cracked.
I was in such relief when I noticed that the picture hadn't been scratched.
Hunter took it from my hands.
He studied it intently, before turning back to me.
"He has the same eyes as you." he breathed. "Hazel."
"Yeah, we inherited it from our mother..." I trailed off.
I never properly met my birth mother.
Dad used to tell me haunting stories where she left us once we were born.
But, since my father had green eyes, I was guessing Cameron's and my eyes were inherited from our mother.
"So, he's your older brother? Is he in college yet?" Hunter asked, handing me back the picture.
My throat tightened up, as my palms became sweaty.
"Yeah, he is." I lied through my teeth.
I felt bad, lying to Hunter so many times when he was so nice to me.
    "Really? Which one?" Hunter pressed.
I clicked my tongue, frowning in concentration.
"Y-you know. The one that's a few states from here..." I wandered off.
Hunter chuckled, flicking my nose with his index finger.
I flinched, staring at him irritatedly.
"A few states from here? What a detailed description." Hunter sarcastically smirked.
I laughed nervously, glad that we were going off the topic.
    A silence filled the atmosphere.
We both enjoyed the view of the blazing orange sun setting down for the moment.
Hunter was sitting so close to me.
I could hear his slow breathing, as his warm skin radiated agaisnt mine.
I tried to ignore the burning sensation I got just as our skin brushed.
I sucked in a deep breath, releasing it all out.
Why was I acting like this?
We came from two different worlds.
We weren't supposed to become close to each other.
The sky was dark now, as the stars started to appear.
I looked over my shoulder, as I saw Hunter's eyes closed.
A light snore came from his nose.
I watched as his ivory skin glowed in the moonlight.
The wind gently blew his dark hair in his face.
Without my permisson, my hand reached out forward.
My fingers were trembling, as they brushed his hair away from his eyes swiftly.
I laid my bad down as a pillow, as I positioned myself a good feet away from his body.
It was pretty chilly on the cliff, but nothing I couldn't handle.
I sniffled, as I closed my eyes gently.

I've gotta say I'm happy about being back at school. I get to be out of the house and with my friends. However I do not like the fact that I have to do work and that I'm stuck at my chat school, lol. But it is quite a bit better than being stuck at home. Not that there is anything wrong with being home. I, I just tend to be more happy at school. Maybe cause I'm in a place where I can be my true self. No more hiding who I truly am. Maybe it's cause I get to see my crush every school day. For all I know it could probably be a million things. Well, not really. But yeah, you know what I mean, lol. It just feels good to be truly happy. To be surrounded by my friends. To be me.

    Chapter 12
    Hunter's Point of View
When I woke up the next morning, there was a light breeze tossing my hair out of my eyes.
I let out a tired groan, rolling to my side.
A small smile spread across my lips, when I saw Hayden right beside me.
Her usual thick, combed hair was reaching out in all different directions.
But, she still looked so beautiful.
I sucked in a deep breath, as I pulled out a cigarette from my pocket.
I lit the tip, as I inhaled the cigarette, releasing a puff of smoke.
I could see Hayden, who was still lying down, flinching.
I frowned, as her closed eyes squeezed tightly.
    She muttered, "P-please. Please don't."
I examined her intently, caressing her pale cheek.
    Was she having a nightmare?
    Should I wake her up?
She mumbled something under her breath that I couldn't catch, as her forehead started to heat up.
Her body began to move, as her legs kicked rapidly.
"N-no! Please stop!" she suddenly screamed.
She sat up straight, as her eyes flew open.
I stared at her with shock, as I stepped on the cigarette, letting the fire go out.
I tossed the burnt sigarette down the cliff, turning back to Hayden.
Her hand was pressed against her chest, as she breathed quickly.
I stared at her with concern. "Hayden? Are you alright?"
She seemed a bit startled to see me, but she nodded hesitantly.
"I-I'm fine. I just had a bad dream." she whispered.
I couldn't help but sympathsize how scared she looked.
There was so much painful emotions in her eyes.
There was hatred, sorrow, desperation, and fear.
Hayden made me so curious about her.
She was so mysterious, like she had something to hide.
"Could you bring me home now, please?" she asked, practically begging.
I bit my lower lip, nodding.
We paced down the trail of the mountain, hurrying to the car, which was right where I had left it the night before.
I began to drive out of the reservation, as Hayden tapped her fingers along the dashboard.
"So, what was your dream about?" I asked casually.
Hayden avoided eye contact, yet again.
How come she never looked at me when we spoke?
I gribbed the steering wheel, becoming irritated with the bad habit of her's.
"J-just the usual... monster thing." she stuttered.
I let out a deep breath.
    Here she goes, again.
Has anyone ever taught this girl how to lie?
"Well, I hope it didn't scare you too much." I went along with it.
There was no point in pressuring her to tell me.
It was only going to make her feel uncomfortable around me.
    Maddi's Point of View
I puckered my lips, which were coated with a thick sheet of lip gloss.
I tapped my fingers against my laptop's keyboard, punching in the search bar, Hayden Morris.
I scrolled down the list of results, clicking on the link that led to an old article.
I lifted my perfectly waxed eyebrows, as my eyes scanned down the page.
Jeremy Morris, was apparently the psychopathic father of Hayden.
He was an abusive father, who beat his two own children.
One night, the police found Jeremy and his son, Cameron, dead in their own pool of blood.
The only witness and survivor in the house was the youngest, Hayden.
Jeremy was found dead with a gun in his hand, guilty of murdering his only son.
I leaned back in my chair, a smirk placing on my lips.
I clicked the print button, as papers began to fly out of the printer.
    Oh, Hayden.
You're going to regret ever stealing Hunter from me.

    Catch Me if You Can
    Chapter 7
After a week, Harry and I were closer than ever, but we never replayed the moment where we locked lips.
Although, him and I have been hanging out everyday for the past week with his friends.
Everytime I sat with Addison, I would see him sneak a few glances at me, and grin everytime I caught his gaze.
And everytime he caught me looking at him, I would quickly look away, covering up my blush.
"Colby? Hello?" a voice called out, inturrupting my thoughts.
I blinked a few times, and turned to me side, watching Addison wave her manicured hands in my face.
    "W-what?" I hesitantly asked.
"I've been trying to get your attention for the last minute. Are you okay?" she asked, throwing her iced vanilla bean latte away in the nearest trash basket.
I smiled and nodded. "I'm fine, thanks."
Addison stared at me suspiciously before getting up from her stool.
"Well, the other's are probably at the beach now. Ready to go?" Addison asked, as I hopped down form my stool.
I nodded, as we turned around to head to the door.
I smiled to myself when Addison's back was facing me, eager to see Harry.
We got to the beach by foot, because it was only a few blocks down fom the coffee shop.
"There they are!" Addison beamed, quickly walking towards a group of chattering people.
The closer we got, the slower Addison's pace got.
"Dani." Addison muttered under her breath, staring straight at a perky blonde that was wearing a stringed bikini top and short shorts.
    "That's Dani?" I asked.
My voice must've startled her, because Addison flinched, as she placed a hand over her heart.
Addison stared at me with a frown before continuing to walk towards the group, ignoring me.
"Well, if it isn't the famous Addison with the beautiful Colby." Alex grinned, throwing a arm over my shoulder.
During the past week, I've noticed that Alex had been the flirtiest out of the entire group.
"Hi Alex." I smiled, slowly removing his hand away from my shoulder.
"Whose this?" a high pitched voice suddenly asked.
I turned around to see the perky blonde, who was smiling at me sweetly. Too sweetly.
"Oh, this is Colby, Dani. I don't think you've met her yet, since you were at Las Vegas for the past week." Gerald said, introducing us two.
Dani flashed her pearly whites at me, and extended a hand out for me to shake.
"Colby, huh? That's a cute name. I'm Dani."
I took her hand, loosely shaking it. "Thanks."
We let go of each others hands, as Dani's eyes began to scan the beach.
"Where's Harry? He's late." she pouted.
Addison's eyes immediately shot to me.
"Harry? Oh, there he is." Gerald said, staring behind me.
I reluctantly turned around, seeing the brown head of shaggy hair jogging up to us.
His face dropped when he saw me.
Was there dirt on my face?
Harry always smiled when he saw me.
"Harry!" Dani screeched, jumping on him, wrapping her legs around his waist.

    Chapter 2
Harry and I stood on the edge of the boardwalk, as the fireworks went off above us.
I was licking on my vanilla and chocolate ice cream cone, as the fireworks exploded into various colors.
I was slightly bitter about the fact that my new white sundress was covered with sand, since Harry had tackled me down on the beach earlier today, but the fireworks made up for it.
I barely got to have this much fun back in Maine, since my mother was always so strict.
I was starting to like the fact that I was in California with my dad... and Harry.
Suddenly, a loud explosion went off above us, as my head snapped up.
Written in the night sky was, "Kathryn, will you marry me?"
Immediately, a crown surrounding the boardwalk oohed, as a loud scream came off from an excited girl.
"Would you want someone to do that to you?" Harry asked beside me.
I licked the chocolate that was dripping from my cone, as I nodded.
"I guess so, it would be romantic." I smiled.
"Ah, I see. You're the chick flick type, aren't you?" Harry teased.
I chuckled, before turning a light shade of pink.
"No, of course not!" I stammered. "It's just a sweet thing to do for someone."
Harry stared at me with an amused grin.
"It's almost midnight, I should get you home, right?" he asked.
I shook my head. "No, it's okay. I took up enough of your time already. I can walk back alone."
Harry grinned with his blue-green eyes twinkling, even in the dark.
"No, it's not poite to leave a girl alone at midnight. I'll walk you." he insisted.
Not wanting to argue with him any further, I agreed.
I tossed my ice cream off into the nearest trash bucket, as we began walking off the boardwalk.
"So, do you want to tell me why you were so grumpy earlier today?" Harry asked.
I kicked a pebble with my black flip flop as we walked.
"I'm just bitter about moving here." I admitted.
Harry frowned. "Oh, you're new here? I should've known. I've never seen you around before."
I nodded. "Yeah, I just moved here a week ago, from Maine."
Harry seemed shocked. "Really? That's on the other side of the country!"
    I laughed nervously. "I know."
Harry gave me a sorrowful look. "Don't worry, you'll love it here."
I looked up at the brunette, and raised an eyebrow. "How are you so sure?"
"You have me here, duh." he tilted his head.
I laughed, and slapped his shoulder. "You are so egoistic."
    Harry briefly laughed.
I finally walked up the front steps of my house, that was surrounded by a white porch.
We stood near the door, as Harry and I turned to face each other.
"I'll see you tomorrow, right?" he asked hopefully.
I bit down on my lip, trying not to smile. "Sure."
Harry's face lit up, as he grinned boyishly.
"Awesome! I'll come meet you out here." he smiled. "W-with some of my friends..." he finished, seeming a bit off.
I frowned, before ignoring his sudden change of mood.
"Alright, sounds like a plan." I smiled.
I unlocked my front door, as I waved goodbye to Harry.

    Catch Me if You Can
    Chapter 3
The next morning, I woke up with my pale blue blankets on the floor.
I sniffed, as the strong aroma of bacon and pancake mix filled my nose.
My stomach began to rumble, as I licked my lips, eager for something to eat.
I quickly took a cold shower, and brushed my teeth.
I threw on a floral off shoulder top, and a pair of white shorts.
I ran down the stairs, just to see my father placing a big stack of pancakes on the diner table.
"Good morning, dad." I polietly said, sliding in a wooden seat.
My dad chuckled, as he smiled. "Good morning, Colby. Eat up, I remember my chocolate chip pancakes were your favorite."
I drizzled my pancakes in thick syrup, as I took a big bite, letting the flavor soak in my mouth.
I hadn't eaten my dad's pancakes in years, not after him and my mother got a divorce.
    "These are great." I complimented.
My dad smiled, as his eyes twinkled with happiness.
"I'm glad you're back with me, Colby. I've missed you throughout these years."
I took in a deep breath, "I missed you, too."
I finished my breakfast, as I offered to wash the dishes.
"Colby, are you doing anything today?" my father called out from the living room.
"Actually, I am. I made a friend last night." I replied, drying off the platter.
"Really? That was fast. When are you going out?" he asked.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, as I flinched from surprise.
"I guess now." I grinned secretly, jogging up to the door.
I took in a deep breath before opening the door to see Harry.
I swung the door wide open, as Harry stood on my front steps, grinning.
"Hey, Colby. Ready to go?" Harry asked.
I looked over my shoulder, and waved bye to my dad.
"I'm going out now, dad. Bye!" I smiled, sprinting out the doorway.
Harry laughed at me, as I nearly tripped over a step, but balanced myself out.
I blushed with embarassment, and slapped his shoulder.
"It's not funny." I grumbled, fixing my top. "We are meeting with your friend's today, right?"
Harry nodded, as he bit down on his lower lip.
"Yeah... we're going to see them at the beach."
There Harry goes again with his sudden hesitation.
    What was up with him?
We paced to the beach in silence, which I wasn't too fond of.
Harry's eyes shifted towards a group of people, who were laughing loudly.
"There they are." he muttered under his breath, grabbing my wrists.
He pulled me towards the group, as they all smiled and greeted Harry.
"Well, whose this beautiful girl?" a guy asked, shaking his blonde hair away from his eyes.
I flustered, still not used to getting hit on, even if I was 16.
Harry gripped his hands around my wrists tightly.
"This is Colby. I met her yesterday, and she's off limits." Harry said, trying not to sound too protective.
"Alright, man. Whatever you say." the guy smirked, raising his hands up in surrender.
I saw Harry's eyes frantically searching the group, as if he was looking for someone.
Harry let go of my wrists, as he leaned over in a tall, red headed girl's ear, and whispered.
The red head turned to face him, and said lowly, but still audible, "She's not here yet."

    Chapter 4
We all gathered towards a diner that was a few blocks down from the beach.
I was sandwiched in a booth between Gerald and Addison, both who were my friends now.
Harry sat across from me, grinning at me everytime my eyes met his.
I twirled the sprial straw that was stuck in my half drunken milkshake, as I listened to everyone speak before me.
"Is Dani coming or not? We've been waiting for her for an hour now." a brunette complained, texting away furiously on her phone.
I looked up, and noticed Harry deeply listening on to their conversation, with a strange, mild interest.
I wanted to ask who Dani was, but I didn't want to seem nosy.
"I guess she's not coming. She isn't answering any of her texts." a guy concluded, snapping his phone shut.
Addison turned to Harry, who was narrowing his eyes back and forth with mysteriousness.
"Harry, why don't you try texting Dani? She might reply to you." Addison laughed, almost sounding as if she was teasing him.
I heard Harry sigh, as he whipped out his phone, punching buttons quickly before closing it.
Not a second later, his phone vibrated on the table.
Everyone's eyes turned to Harry, as he slowly read the text message.
"She's not coming." he said, breathing in... relief?
I was confused now, and my curiousity was getting the best of me.
But then again, it wouldn't be right for me to ask questions, espeically if I've only known these people for an hour.
Gerald suggested we head back to the beach, as we all chipped in to pay for our lunch.
Harry insisted on paying for my milkshake, but I shook my head, and placed the money on the counter before he got to.
As we got to the beach, we all laid out towels on the hot sand.
"Colby, do you want to sun tan with me?" Addison asked, staring at her pale arms.
I shook my head. "I didn't bring a bathing suit with me today."
Addison grinned. "Don't worry, I have an extra."
She ran her hands in her large, tote bag, holding out a white bikini.
I went to the bathrooms to change, and scrunched my nose when I saw my reflection.
The bottoms fit perfectly, but the top of a bit too tight in the wrong areas.
I stepped back on the beach, as Addison already threw her shades on, letting the rays soak in her.
When she saw me, she beamed.
"I knew it would look great on you!" she giggled, tossing me a pair of sunglasses.
I laid beside her, as I pinned my hair back, sliding on the shades.
"It's a little too small... don't you think?" I asked.
Addison shook her head. "No way, babe. This is California."
    I bit my lips.
Addison seemed like an okay person; why not ask her about Dani?
"Addison, who is Dani?" I asked, trying to sound casual.
Addison raised an eyebrow, as she tilted her shades down.
I saw her glancing in the crowd of volleyball players, and her eyes stopped at Harry.
"This question was meant for Harry, really." she gently smiled.
