Part Twenty-Eight

I saw him make his way towards Cali and Derek, and I thought ‘Eh, no big deal. Probably isn’t too happy about the P.D.A.’ Then, I saw him tap Cali’s shoulder. He started to pull her up, and she was slapping his hands away, shouting something I couldn’t hear. I moved forward a step. ‘Caden, what are you doing?’ My head screamed. He pulled Cali completely up, and she started kicking when he picked her up and started to walk away. I saw Derek sit there, confused. Then his confusion turned to anger, and the anger turned to fury. I saw him get up slowly, and stare at Caden’s back while he walked away with Cal, still kicking and cursing at Caden. Then I saw Derek walk over, tap Caden’s shoulder, swing him around, and punch him in the face.
Derek caught Caliope when Caden dropped her to clutch his nose, and set her down gently, while he tore at Caden. Caden tried to run away, but Derek pulled him up close by Caden’s collar. “If you ever go near her again, without her wanting you there, I will personally take your life, and make it a living hell.”
“Hey, back off man! It’s not like you aren’t just trying to get into her pants like I am!” Caden squeaked. I clenched my fists, struggling with my urge to go over and kick him until he won’t even be considered a guy anymore.
“On the contrary, jerk, I’m trying to help her through whatever she wants me to. Whether she wants me as a boyfriend, or just a friend. I’m not trying to ‘get into her pants’” Derek growled.
“Well isn’t that just sweet. You’re her ‘protector!’” Caden laughed. This guy turned out to be a major jerk. I walked over calmly, and put my hand on Derek’s shoulder. I looked into his eyes, and I just shook my head slightly. I could actually see him loosen up, and then we both walked over to Caliope, who looked both crushed and terrified.
“One second, guys, I want to tell Caden a secret,” Caliope whispered. Derek nodded, and I shrugged. She walked over to Caden, whispered something in his ear, and then, without him even expecting it, she punched him! And when he tried to punch her back (a great guy, huh?) she held his fist, and turned it behind his back, then pushed him to the ground. She kicked him in the balls, and then walked over to me and a shocked Derek while shaking her hands. “What?” She asked to my face, “I told you I took self-defense classes!” I just started laughing, while Derek stared at Cal with a look of something in his eyes. If I only knew what it was at the time.
