We all know that he wasn't actually born today but we celebrate it today because it is nine months after the day we celebrate the immaculate conception (Mary becoming pregnant with Jesus) reply

Guys calm down a lot of people know he wasn't really born on December 25, but this is when we celebrate it. It's a couple thousand years too late to change it now. reply

I hate to be another bearer of bad news, but there is no evidence that suggests Jesus of Nazareth was born on this very date. Thorough reading and interpretation of the Bible suggests he was actually born sometime in March, August, or September (most especially sometime in the summer, though). Jesus Christ's birthday was pegged at December 25th because this date marks the final day of the old Pagan festival of Saturnalia, which consisted of feasting and celebrating their god of agriculture, Saturn, and it ended on the winter solstice (which on the Julian calendar is the 25th; we use the Gregorian calendar now). This made it easier for Christians of that time to convert pagans to Christianity by keeping the tradition of feasting and gift-giving around the time of the winter solstice.
It is, however, Isaac Newton's birthday today, and he did more than I can put into words to advance mathematics and the understanding of classical physics, which was inexplicably important. :)
In the end, though, this has become a special day of family and thankfulness and showing appreciation and love. I guess that's what really matters. reply
