Torn Apart
Chapter 3
Arielle's POV
Kaylie was, unfortunately, in my first class: math. Like I said, I was actually pretty smart, and Kaylie was about the same level as me. In math, she was even smarter, though.
She got there first and sat in her usual seat. Kaylie didn't have any best friends - like me, she was more of a loner - but in math, a random girl always sat next to her. They were friends, I think. Today, that girl wasn't there, so I slipped into the seat next to Kaylie like everything was normal.
"Uh..." Kaylie paused, "Um, Arielle...Savanna is sitting there."
Oh. So that was her name. Savanna. "So?" I asked icily.
"So...you're in her seat. So she can't sit there," Kaylie said.
I crossed my arms and turned to her, smirking. "Honey," I said, "Does it look like I give a f/ck?"
Kaylie was taken aback. She opened her mouth, and I looked at her more closely. Her eyes were slightly bloodshot and red-rimmed. She'd been crying, and again, tears pooled in her eyes. "Why are you so mean?" she asked.
"Me? Sweetie, I'm not mean," I said.
"Then what are you?" Kaylie rubbed her eyes and blinked rapidly.
"I'm putting you in your place," I said simply, "Someone's got to do it. It doesn't mean I'm mean."
Kaylie stared at me, speechless. She took a deep, shuddering breath, and then whispered, "Putting me in my place?"
I shrugged, "Aww, don't be sad. You'll thank me someday."
Kaylie blinked. "You," she said, her strong voice returning, "Are the sickest, cruelest, most disgusting human being I have ever encountered."
