Torn Apart
Chapter 2
Arielle's POV
She had the nerve to talk to me like we were friends - like she was popular. "How was your weekend?" I asked in a sticky sweet voice.
"It was okay," Kaylie shrugged, "You?"
"Well, I had a party at my place on Saturday," I lied, "It was awesome. But it's a shame you weren't there. Dylan was all 'where's Kaylie? Where is she?' He likes you, you know." Dylan Goldman was Kaylie's longtime crush, but he was also popular.
Kaylie stared at me for a moment. "Really?" she asked at last.
I watched her delighted, expectant face and smirked to myself. Kaylie really was naïve. I had a lot of fun teasing her. I paused for a moment more, letting Kaylie hope for the best. Then..."No."
Kaylie blinked. "What?"
Serena cackled behind me and I shot her an annoyed look. "Do you need a hearing aid, honey? Because I'm pretty sure everyone else knew what I said." I turned to the crowd, "You guys heard, didn't you?"
Nods and "yes"'s traveled through the hallway. It was only because I was popular, but I used my power to my advantage. I turned back to Kaylie with my head held high. "He'll never say that," I said softly, "And if he did, it would be about me. You'll never get Dylan, or anyone else. Got it?"
Kaylie's eyes flickered to my face, unreadable. "Got it?" I repeated, staring her down.
Then she nodded, once. "Yeah," she said softly, tears prickling in her eyes. I knew what Kaylie looked like before she was going to cry; I'd made her cry many times before, and I knew to get out before it happened.
"Later, loser," I said, turning on my heel and strutting off with Serena. A smirk broke out on my face. Kaylie really had it out for her; who did she think she was, trying to get my position? She only had herself to blame. At least, that's what I told myself every day, as I made her life miserable.
