Growing Up
It’s not something that we want to do, but let’s face it. We have to do it. The thought of growing up is scary. It's hard to believe that I'm the same person I was 10 years ago. As a little kid, I always wanted to be older. I don’t really remember why. Maybe it was because I wanted to be able to stay up until midnight or watch those PG-13 movies or go on dates with a boy of my dreams. I watch the little girls across the street ride their bicycles up and down the sidewalk, and I think of myself. I remember how the days seemed so long and how summer seemed to last forever. I remember playing with my Barbie dolls and dressing up on Easter Sunday in a beautiful dress and a bonnet. Those days seemed so easy. I felt like I had the world figured out. Now, I realize that I don’t have a clue who I am or what my purpose in life is. But as I grow up, I will figure that out. Everyone always says that they wish they could go back in time and be a kid again. As funny as it sounds, I don’t. Going back in time would mean loosing everything that I worked so hard for. I would have to start over. All those tears I cried, nights studying my butt off for a test the next day, and all the lessons I learned, would be gone. As we grow up, things are going to get harder.
But I think I’m ready for that
*The one I made before had ugly colors. I decided to fix it up.

He's my best friend.
We tease each other constantly, and
there never seems to be a pause in
our conversations because we never
run out of things to talk about.
He talks about sports, I talk about
clothes, we're like brother and sister,
only without the fighting.
I was there when he broke up with
his first girlfriend and watched him pretend
not to care.
I always listen when we talk on AIM,
mostly about his new girlfriend,
and I can't tell him how much it hurts,
because he's too nice.

what happened?
wasn't there a time when people were themselves? no one paid attention to the latest fashion, or covered their faces each and every day with mascara and eyeliner. people were unique. original. but i think the funniest part - to me - is that we all still think we're original. that we're all different. but look around you. take a good, long look. we're all saying that we're different because we wear converses with our dresses instead of heels, and listen to that "alternative" music that really isn't all that alternative anymore. but really look at that. don't we all do that now? it's not trying to put anyone down; it's just the truth. and i'm positive that everyone was born an original. was unique. was confident at one point. but somewhere along the way, things changed. somewhere along the way,
we lost ourselves.
--> wow okay that came out REALLY bitchy. but.... that's just kinda the way i see it. venting, i guess.

fearless.
to me, fearless is not the absence of fear. it's not being completely unafraid. to me, fearless is having fears. fearless is having doubts. lots of them. to me, fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death. fearless is falling madly in love again, even though you've been hurt before. fearless is walking into your freshman year of high school at fifteen. fearless is getting up and fighting for what you want over and over again, even though every time you've tried before, you've lost. it's fearless to have faith that someday things will change. fearless is having the courage to say goodbye to someone who only hurts you, even though you can't breathe without them. i think it's fearless to fall for your best friend even though he's in love with someone else. and when someone apologizes to you enough times for things they'll never stop doing, i think it's fearless to stop believing them. it's fearless to say, "you're not sorry," and walk away. i think loving someone despite what people think is fearless. i think allowing yourself to cry on the bathroom floor is fearless. letting go is fearless. then, moving on and being all right... that's fearless too. but no matter what love throws at you, you have to believe in it. you have to believe in love stories and prince charmings and happily ever after. that's why i write these songs. because i think love is fearless.

i live for the summers...
