When a band breaks up, it doesn't just mean there won't be any new merchandise to buy. It doesn't just mean there won't be anymore albums to fall in love with and tours to go to. It means those people who, together, saved lives and united people from all over the world, are gone. Sure, they're still alive, they may even continue making music, but, without everything the band had, it can never be the same. A favorite band is so much more than just music. It's a religion. It's life. People live and breathe their favorite bands, and when it's over, they are left with nothing. You never really get over that "kicked-in-the-gut-oh-god-I-can't-breathe-what-do-I-do-now" feeling. You learn to cope. It lessens slightly. But the horrible, heartbreaking knowledge that something that made such a huge impact in your life is gone never really leaves.
