He wasn't the typical high school popular guy.
His classmates couldn't even look him in the eye,
They called him a loser, a monster, a repulsive freak,
And didn't bother to listen when he tried to speak.
One day, in the hallway, the boy dropped his books.
Most students just walked past with disparaging looks.
Not one helped the boy pick them up from the floor,
Because to them, he was way too easy to ignore.
But soon, a kind-hearted girl stopped by,
Picked up the books, and gave them to the guy.
"That's a lot of books," she said, smiling wide.
"Yes, I hope to read them all someday," he replied.
This marked the beginning of a new friendship.
The bond became strong and impossible to rip.
They spent everyday enjoying books together,
As their love blossomed into an everlasting flower.
Their favorite was "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare,
For the tragic love was simply oh so very dear.
The girl would read, and the boy would listen.
Her voice was like an antidote to his poison.
She was his first love, and also, his best friend.
But all too soon, everything had to come to an end,
Because one day, that seemed like any other day,
The town's hospital came and took the boy away.
He never did come back, and it broke her heart
To see this indifferent world tear them apart.
The girl screamed desperately at the heavenly sky,
Hoping the one she loved could hear her goodbye.
Weeks later, as the girl reread their favorite tale,
In the pages, she found a note of a color pale.
In handwritten letters, it said "I love you."
"Thank you for being there through and through."
Tears caressed her cheeks as the girl let out sad cries.
Because the boy who wrote this was blind in both eyes.
How painful of an illness the boy tried to fight,
And how beautiful these few words he died to write.
