So lately everyone's been complaining about how Witty is "dead"
So here's my input. And I know this is long, but I think it's worth the reading.
You know that all those text posts that everyone posts over and over again on Witty? Those were created by people, and assuming that most of you are people, you guys are all perfectly capable of creating your own quotes. I make my own quotes, and people always think mine aren't genuine too because almost every other Wittian gets their quotes from Tumblr or Twitter.
It really isn't too hard to think of your own quotes like that.
-Whenever something awkward or funny happened with your family or friends or at school pretend your texting someone and jot the quote down on your phone so you can post it later.
-You can write about funny childhood experiences; almost everyone has at least one or two funny stories from when they were a kid.
- Write about a conversation you had with your siblings or friends.
-Post an inspirational quote from a book that isn't posted 5 times a day like, "We accept the love we think we deserve," because I've seen that quote about 100 times.
-Post inspirational song lyrics.
-Post a quote from your favorite singer or some other role model to you.
-Or try starting a friendly conversation about things like the winner of American Idol, who you think "A" is on Pretty Little Liars, and what new books you read over the summer instead of making controversial and debatable quotes for attention.
-It isn't too hard to just scroll past funny quotes on Tumblr instead of putting them onto Witty.
How is Witty any fun if you aren't even making your own quotes? The only reason I'm on Witty is to share my stupid/embarrassing/funny thoughts, not someone else's.
I actually want to know how faves means anything to you if the quotes aren't even yours. It doesn't make you funny, it just means you understand the concept of copy and paste.
And what about getting new people on Witty? You can start by telling some of your close friends. I got about three friends to join. You don't need to tell them your user name, just tell them about the website. It's a good start. You can tell people on your Tumblr, Twitter, Wattpad, Youtube, or whatever other social networks you have about Witty.
And for the love of God, if you see a quote already posted, do not repost it.
I've seen so many long time members giving their "goodbye message" because Witty changed. When I see the goodbye messages I want them to be about the members finding a place in life, not because they were pushed away by the unoriginality, bullies, and not feeling welcome.
There are quotes that I see on the top page, and then I see countless repeats of them over the next few days. There was this one quote that I saw posted about 5 times by different people the day after it became a top quote. If you want to post a quote from Tumblr and you saw it before, just don't post it at all. It might be funny, but someone beat you to it.
If you don't know if the quote was posted before, copy and paste the quote into the Witty search bar and the quote may come up if it was posted before. Then paste it into google because sometimes a link to Witty comes up. A quote gets less and less funny each time someone sees it.
One other reason I think so many people think Witty is boring is because all you guys is post is depressing stuff. This is called WITTY Profiles, not Diary Profiles or My Depressing Life Profiles. People who join come for a good laugh not to read about how you cut yourself. Remember those adds you gave to Steve? They were all about how it was a funny website with jokes, not about how Witty is a therapy because Witty isn't a therapy. I understand a lot of you have problems, but when I think of Witty I think of it as my safe haven. And most of you do too. When I post upsetting quotes it just makes me feel even more depressed. If you post funny jokes and puns it will lighten up your mood. Witty should be your getaway from the real world.
I don't think Witty is ever going to gain members if all we do is complain about how Witty is dying either. It doesn't help so stop posting quotes about how "Witty is dead!!!" and start trying to help. It's such a shame that Witty Profiles is such a genius website, and it doesn't get enough recognition because of the people on it.
I know most of you are still gonna post quotes from Tumblr, most of you won't mention this to your friends or anything, and I know one quote isn't going to change Witty back to it's "old days" but you should try to consider this. And try welcoming new members so they can feel like Witty is a home to them.
