    Okay, time for a little geography lesson...
    I suppose no one will read this but I'm gonna say it anyway because it really annoys me when people don't realize this:
    England = one country.
    Scotland = one country.
    Wales = one country.
    Together, they make up Great Britain.
    Great Britain is not a country.
    Northern Ireland *not the Republic of Ireland*
    is a region/province of the UK.
    The Republic of Ireland is not in Great Britain or the UK,
    nor is it ruled by them.
    Great Britain is the name of the island.
    The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (The UK) is the political grouping of countries under the sovereignty of Queen Elizabeth II.
    England is a constituent country in the UK along with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
    Okay? Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    a very p-ssed off English girl.

    Hi there.
    My name is Niamh and I'm 13 years old. I'm from Ireland and I will be starting secondary school in September. I am incredibly nervous about this and I spend most nights laying awake worrying. I had a few close friends in primary school but I'm the only one going to my new secondary school. I know no one and I'm petrified of getting bullied. I don't know what to do... I think if someone could give me some advice or something that would put my mind at ease.
    Help me? :(

    I practically ran to my locker and packed my bag to head home. I waited for Scarlett, whose locker was next to mine and we walked to the bus with each other, since we both lived in the same suburb outside of the city.
    “I just won’t know what to do if Dean tries to do something, ya know?” Scarlett asked nervously twisting her blond hair. “Like what-” She cut herself off and smiled at Caitlyn, who was on the chubbier side and had dark, shoulder-length hair with blond ombré tips. She had on a black t-shirt with a blue denim skirt and a brown leather belt. My small group of friends didn’t really like Caitlyn because she was loud, obnoxious, had this huge, square smile, not that pretty (not to sound mean)...like she could be pretty if she really tried; a good layer of foundation, light blush, dark eye makeup and a shiny lip color would do her good. She used to have a boyfriend, Austin, who was a theater geek just like her, but she decided to be trashy at this one sweet sixteen he wasn’t at this spring and they broke up after one month; she’s kind of turning into the pschyo ex-girlfriend who will do absolutely anything for this guy that has completely gotten over her and never taking her back. So yeah. That’s Caitlyn. She’s not really friends with Joel soo...needless to say she wasn’t invited, and she didn’t really know. We’ve been working on keeping this whole thing a secret from her. Now, Scarlett has a really big mouth and she actually likes Caitlyn; she sees her as a friend, and you can see where this is going. We’re doing all we can to prevent Caitlyn from finding out we were invited without her.
    “Hey guys!” Caitlyn said in her loud voice. “OMG there were these super hot guys that were TOTALLY checking me out when I walked by them on the sidewalk.” Yeah, okay Caitlyn whatever you say. “And I swore the one kid purposely bumped into my shoulder. He was totally hitting on me.” She was practically screaming it for the entire bus to hear. God does she ever just shut up. Caitlyn and Scarlett talked about absolutely nothing for the entire bus ride while I sat back in my window seat with my headphones in watching the world racing by. --- Finally we arrived at the local suburban high school. There were lots of attractive boys standing outside from Frank High School who took their bus to here too. Mmmm. But none of them were Maurice. I knew that because at the beginning of the school year Caitlyn was telling us about this really hot kid on her busride home and he fit the description of him. Caitlyn, Scarlett, Miriam and I all walked off of our bus and went our separate ways. Caitlyn to her other transfer bus with Maurice (lucky her!), Scarlett to her mom in her car, and Miriam, her best friend Molly, and I went over to the curb of the parking lot to wait for our rides. Fourty-five minutes later, and 13 cars later, my mom arrived in her vibrant purple Volkeswaggen Golf. I swear, sometimes that car was such an embarrassment, and other times it could be so cool. I plopped into the car. To bad nothing interesting happened today. I thought. My phone buzzed. Well, I was wrong.

    So Monday came. I took the two buses it took to get to my school in the city and I walked in the front doors and down the main hallway. I had barely gotten five steps when Makayla came running up to me, phone in hand, make up glittering.
    “Joel and I were texting last night and he said this party is going to be huge! There’s even juniors coming!” Makayla was obsessed with this junior at Frank High School named Cole. I thought he was attractive in pictures, but when I saw him at a regatta..well, he wasn’t as pretty. Makayla’s news was both upsetting and exciting. First, I would eventually have to tell my parents that it wasn’t just going to be a little basement party, or they would find out. However, more kids meant more BOYS. But the one boy I really did want to actually talk to was Maurice, so I’m hoping were able to find each other. My classes went by surprisingly slow, even for a Monday. Global seemed to drag on forever, French we watched a movie and I doodled all over my notebook. In English I had to pay attention though, because with an 86 average in an honors class, the teacher constantly questioned me about what was going on. Math I practically fell asleep in and I went to the bathroom for like fifteen minutes. Religion...well don’t even get me started on that. Usually we watch a short clip of some priest talking about something and then we have to answer a question that goes along with it. But I was tired, the room was stuffy because it was in the basement and there were no breezes coming through the windows, and all the lights were off. I dozed off and then when we had to write our responses, I just reworded what the girl next to me had. Whatever. Band was a studyhall because all the graduation music was practiced well enough, so I took a nap. Finally lunch came and I got to talk and gossip about Friday night’s party with Makayla and a few other girls, Miriam and Scarlett. So I gave you the current relationship status of Makayla, so okay: Miriam isn’t sure if she likes this kid named Dean, and he likes her and Dean’s really attractive, but Miriam doesn’t want to ‘go all the way’ with him so she freaks out and then acts like a total dork whenever she talks to him. Scarlett has a boyfriend, Kingston, and he’s really good friends with Dean. Kingston and Dean are both planning on coming to the party Friday night and both Miriam and Scarlett are ecstatic.
    “I don’t even know what to wear!” Miriam complained. Miriam is Taiwanese; both of her parents are from Taiwan. She is gorgeous, with her long, thick black hair, hazel eyes and perfectly shaped lips.
    “Something cute, but not trashy.” Scarlett advised. Scarlett’s shoulder length hair was in a ponytail with a pouf, brigthly highlighted, with some brown lowlights. She has bright blue eyes and expertly shaped eyebrows. With a light pink V-neck top and a gold chain necklace, she was beauty material that was competition for Makayla, which is why they often got into fights. But for right now, they were at peace, and they needed to be until Friday at least. The bell rang signaling the end of lunch. I waited for Miriam to collect her books so we could walk to health together.
    “I seriously cannot wait for this party. It’s going to be so much fun!” I said as we walked away from the cafeteria.
    “Yeah oh my god I know! I just really don’t know what to wear!” Groaned Miriam. We got to the health room and took our seats. Another boring lesson on how we shouldn’t be listening to “Molly” by Tyga and that we should practice abstinence till were like, 45. Blah, blah blah. Finally last period, bio. As Ms. Sandra droned on and on in front of the whiteboard, I set my elbow down and layed my head down and closed my eyes. --- I hadn’t even realized I had fallen asleep. I glanced over at Miriam on the other side of the room who was giggling because she had seen me awaken with a start. Ms. Sandra hadn’t even noticed. AT LAST. The bell rang and I was home free.

    I woke up feeling super energized even for a Sunday. I climbed out of bed and went into the bathroom in the next room over. I washed my face, bushed out my hair and then headed back to my room. I opened my small closet and crouched near the floor to pull out a pair of black shiny lace-up loafer-like shoes. Then, I selected a blood red dress that had a black lace overlay and got a black, shiny, thin belt to compliment it. I pulled the dress over my slim shoulders and zipped up the back and then looped the belt around my waist. I tied the shoes on and then reached into the top shelf of my closet where I kept all my accessories. I brought down the box labeled ‘Bracelets’ and sifted through it until I found my gold bracelet that was shaped into letters on the top and spelled LOVE. I checked myself out in the mirror one more time until I headed out of my room for breakfast before church. My mom was into the big ‘family-time big breakfast Sundays’ so she always cooked so much food, even if it was just me, her and my dad. I came into the kitchen and there was a TON of food on the counter that stuck out where the stools were. There were hotplates of small sausages, little folded over egg omelets without anything in them, a cubed hashbrown and mini-tomatoes mix, beautifully toasted bread, hot coffee, milk, orange juice, and of course, all the condiments like ketchip, hot sauce, sugar, salt and pepper.
    “Good morning Ire!” My dad greeted me as I walked into the kitchen and dining area. He was sitting at the round little table infront of the window, our ‘dining room’, but really it was just another eating space, and he was reading the newspaper over his breakfast. All the stools had been moved away from the counter so we could easily access the food.
    “Good morning, Ireland!” My mom hugged and kissed me with her apron on. “Grab something to eat, we have to leave in about 20 minutes!”
    “Alright!” I grabed a plate of food and sat down across from my dad. We all finished our plates and packed into my mom’s car, a little bright purple Volkeswagen Golf. We came and went at mass, and thankfully there weren’t any attractive guys at mass. On the way home from church, my mom brought up the subject of Joel’s party.
    “Now, Ireland had came home to ask me very politely if she could go to Makayla’s friend Joel’s party this Friday. I am alright with it, but I told her you had the final say.” She said eyeing me.
    “Well, who is this Joel kid?” My dad asked.
    “He’s a friend of Makayla’s, and he goes to Frank High School, the school right down the street. He’s very trustworthy, and it’ll just be a little party in his basement, no Project X standards..” I said.
    “Well..as long as your mom is okay with it..” My dad started hesitantly.
    “YAY! Thank you Mom! Thank you Dad! I promise I won’t do anything bad and you won’t be disappointed in me!” I exclaimed.

    I walked to the end of the house and turned right into my room. My room was teeny. Maybe around 11x9 feet. There was a narrow twin bed pushed up sideways underneath the window and a small walk in closet. Nothing fancy, really. My room was a soft, but dark, lavender and wasn’t exactly the most accomadating. My closet only fit half of of my clothes, so the other half was in the guest bedroom two rooms down. I couldn’t fit a dresser because my room was that small and there was a full lenth mirror on the wall behind the head of my bed. I set down my bags from shopping and my average-sized robin’s egg blue coach bag, which was lined with cream leather and had my aviators hanging off of the side. I pulled my black iPhone out of my purse and tossed it on my bed. I let out a really deep breath and flopped onto my bed next to my phone. I picked up my phone and opened Instagram. Scrolling, scrolling...ice cream and coffee...eyes...car selfie...shoutout...mirror selfie. I sighed again and opened Twitter. Mostly people complaining about how they missed ‘what they used to have’ and ‘all the memories they’ve lost’. I clicked the home button once again and opened Snapchat. One from Joey, two from Elliott, five from Katherine, one from Andrea, and one from Charlie. Whatever. I could read and reply later. No new texts either. I locked my phone and set it back down on my bed. I barely had my eyes closed to twenty seconds before my phone buzzed quickly and lit up with a text message from ‘Makayla my love’.
    “Hey. Joel’s friend Maurice wanted ur number. So I’m giving it to him. He’s rlly hot don’t worry ;)”
    I smiled to myself. I knew who Maurice was. Who didn’t? He was really sweet, played football and basketball, long black hair, attractive, with hazel eyes and braces. I wondered how they got onto the topic of me. I texted back:
    “How did u guys get onto the topic of me? Haha”
    And Makayla replied:
    “Joel is with Maurice and Joel was discussing who he was inviting to his party and Maurice asked about you..we will talk about this at school on Monday..gotta go”
    At this point I beamed. Oh. My. God. Maurice for one, knew who I was, and two, WAS ASKING ABOUT ME. I had to look amazing for this party because clearly Maurice was going to be there. After I was done daydreaming for a bit about the party, I got out of bed and went to the bathroom to scrub off my makeup and brush my hair and teeth and then I went back to my room to change into my pajamas, red flannel button down pajamas with little black dogs, some with little black and white cheetah outfits on, all scattered around. I left on my silver pendent and my hair fell into a slightly off-centered left part. I crawled into my bed. I could already tell this week was going to be great.

    “Well whose is it?” My mom asked. “Makayla’s friend Joel’s.” I replied. “And do I know this boy?” She questioned. “Uh, no.” I said. She stopped washing the dishes, turned off the sink and put her wet hands on her hips. “And who are you planning on going to this party with?” “Well, since it’s Makayla’s friend that’s having the party, her. And I would go to her house after school and I could stay there until the party, and she would drive me there and back; she swore that she would not get into the car if she had more than 1 drink.” My mom hesitated. “Pleease. It would be a really great way to meet more kids in this area.” I pleaded. I knew most of the kids already, but my mom didn’t really know just how many kids I met and who knew me. “Okay. Fine. As long as you don’t get into any trouble with the police and you promise me you won’t smoke any blunts of anything okay?” She eyed me. “Okay, Mom. I swear. You know me, it will most likely be like the parties back home.” I said. “Okay, I’ll let your father know; he has the final say in this.” She said. I quickly jumped behind the counter and hugged her. “Thanks Mom. You’re the best!” She hugged me back. “I know. So I’ve been told.” I let go of her and went off to my room to start my homework.
