I've heard that when
we die
we lose 21 grams.
this weight is not lost due
gasses liquids or solids
so some say it's our soul
we can question if something that weights less than
the clothes we wear the phones we have
or the money we carry can define us as a person
those 21 grams did not hold you when you lost your dog
it did not pick you up when the car hit you
did not stop you when you took another drink after far too many
dud not comfort you when you had the pregnancy scare
it did not leave you
not when you hit your mother
not when you masturbated over the wrong boy
not when you stood on the chair with the noose around your nack
face framed with tears, it was still there
it just seems to understand
until there's nothing left to forgive
until you take a leap you cannot make
until all there's left to do is leave
