her fingers ghost
around mine,
frail,
and her lips
brush against my ear as
she whispers
‘have you ever seen the stars?’
at the shake of my head
she gasps
giggles
grins
and leads me down,
into and under the moonlight,
where life is simple
and the wind tangles her hair
pulls at her clothes.
she lifts her head
‘look up’ she says
‘the stars are there’
but I don’t look up
‘can you see them?’
she asks
and I reply with a yes,
I have seen them.
but I never did look up
and I still saw the stars
for the stars,
they were in her eyes.
