It's retarded? You should tell that to everyone that does it. It'll probably just make them do it even more.

That'd make them retarded too. It's completely idiotic for people to hurt themselves just because things aren't going their way.

How do you suggest people that are in pain deal with things then?

How is cutting dealing with it? If anything it's just making it worse. People could just not be weak little children with a few screws loose.

People see cutting as a relief. When someone cuts, they do it to take their mind off of their life. They want to be distracted from all the pain they are feeling.

Not being able to deal with the real world is weak and continuing to harm oneself when already sad and hurt is stupid. That isn't an opinion. Those are facts.

Tell who ever said that it isn't an addiction that there's scientific evidence behind it. Almost anything can become an addiction, but what most people are really addicted to is the body's response which is natural neurotransmitters produced in the brain called endorphins to help block out the physical pain and "make you feel better". They're released after cutting, because your mind says "ow, this hurts, so lets dull the pain and add in some endorphins". It's an old survival instinct made by the mind so you can get out of dangerous situations and worry about the harm made to your body later so you can get away from prey, dangerous areas, etc. (I'm not saying this to say it's a good idea to harm yourself, I'm just saying why people may get stuck in the cycle of self-harm.)
