Freedom
We bundled up and made a path through
the back room
hushing each other to be quiet and try not to get caught
The icy wind pierced our faces sending shock through our bodies
Aisling muttering swears under her breath while Kalli stayed
quiet
My toes lost all feeling as well as my fingers
I only had a plaid grey and white peacoat and a wool
blue hat
once we arrived on the living room floor we sat
Laughing until we couldn’t breathe our eyes traveling the
room
we talked about the meaning of life for an hour
we ran through the streets the five of us yelling and screaming
one thirty in the morning and we didn’t care who we woke
An blanket tied around his neck acting like a hero
his crystal blue
eyes watched early morning Gorham intently
everything transforms overnight I’ve
never felt so alive.
Poem I wrote for English class about sneaking out with my best
friends.
