Mental illnesses and abnormalities: Behaviour that violates society's norms and values; if a person acts in a certain way that is socially unacceptable i.e talking to themselves in public or being anti-social (signs of scizophrenia/depression) it is seen as violating the norms and values of the surrounding culture, therefore the individual is seen to be abnormal or suffering from a mental disorder.

So that like, everyone right? Everyone gets depressed, i dont know about everyone but I talk to myself when I'm trying to figure something out. And everyone gets into that mood where they don't want to associate with anyone.

I was on about the actual mental illnesses, they were just examples. That's what i got told in psychology..people with mental illnesses are only abnormal because the way in which they act violates society's norms and values, because if everyone had hallucinations, and everyoone had things such as depression it would just b normal, there'd be no therapy or medicine, whereas if the majority of people don't have it it's not normal. Apparently back in the olden days, it was a mental illnesses if slaves wanted to run away from their owner, if women faancied working-class men and if women would rather spend money on themselves instead of giving it to their husband. -I most probably would have been put in the mental hospital back in them days.
