The Things You Don't Know
Chapter Three, Part
1
My phone vibrated as I opened up my locker to take out my track
stuff. It was Emily, and it was a picture message. I opened it,
and saw Emily's face, but who was that boy with her? Was that
seriously Matt?? And it looks like they're in her room!!
I stared at it a bit and started to
type, "aww, you guys are so cuute!"
I heard my mom yell from outside the
locker room, "Kathleen, are you almost done? I want to get
you home so I can go grocery shopping before I pick up Emily for
your sleepover!"
I huffed. "Yeah Mom, just give me a
sec!"
I grabbed the clothes and put my phone
in my pocket and walked out to meet my mother. When I got in the
car, my phone went off with Emily's reply.
"you really think so?"
"of course! totally adorable. and
hey, you still sleeping over tonight?"
"yeah! when's your mom gettin
me?"
"around 3 if that's
ok"
"perfect! I have so much to tell
you Katy!"
I figured. With that picture I got, I
knew there had to be a story.
When we got home I jumped out of the car
and went into the house and up to my room to clean. I tossed my
track clothes and other dirty clothes into my hamper to bring
downstairs before lunch. I shoved all I could into the closet and
shut the door. I looked into the full length mirror at myself. My
dirty-blond hair was still curled from last night. The curls
bounced on my shoulders as I turned my head back and forth
looking for a hair tie. My dark brown eyes were still made up,
and the coverup I had on was actually still there. I pulled my
sweater off and tossed it onto my bed. I decided I'd be fine
in my pink tanktop, and changed into my black capri sweats.
I took my basket of clothes downstairs
to the laundry room and got the laundry started. I made myself a
tuna melt for lunch and got some chips to have with it. I took my
plate to the living room and sat down on the corner of the couch
so I could stretch my legs out on the extention of it. (It's
a corner piece and I'm not supposed to eat on it. But
noone's home. So I don't care.)
I put on the tv until Emily came, but I
mostly just zoned out thinking about it. I'm not sure why I
did now. It was not supposed to turn out like this! But I
should've expected it. And why is sh-
"Hey Katy!"
I turned around and saw Emily standing
there. I jumped up and gave her a hug, took her bags, and she
followed me up to my room. I dropped her bag in front of the
dresser she uses for the summer when she stays over, turned to
her, and said:
"Okay, spill!"
"Oh. My. God! You'll never
believe this!"
She recapped how she and James ended,
Matt's game, and everything in her bedroom. So the only
question now was,
"So are you and Matt like,
together??"
"Not officially. But I hope he
wants to be!"
She's so happy. I can't believe
it. I've never seen her like this. So I had to find out if
this was true. I took her phone when she went to the bathroom and
stole Matt's number. I texted him, "are you and Emily
together?" He eventually answered, "Idk. I need to talk
to her."
I put my phone down, not knowing what to
say or do.
