Married in High

Chapter Twenty-Four
It was funny to tease Collin about
Jesse asking me to the dance until it actually happened. The
Wednesday after Thanksgiving Break, we had worked at the hospital
and we were on our way back to the school where my car was. It was
quiet, the music was playing softly in the background. Jesse
cleared his throat and my thoughts were redirected on
him.
"So, are you going to the Winter Ball?" He clearly
doesn't beat around the bush.
"Uh, yeah, I'm probably going dress shopping with Lila on
Friday."
"Why so soon?"
"Well the dance is a week from friday, and we need to
coordinate colors with our dates, gets accesories, et cetera."
He nodded his head, and I knew he was thinking. I stayed quiet, we
were only a minute away from the school.
The tension was looming over our heads as he parked next to my car.
I knew what the next question would be, and I didn't want to
answer it.
"Who are you going to coordinate colors with?"
"I'm going with Collin, Jesse. I'm going with Collin,
because he's my boyfriend, and I love him." This was it,
the grand speech I had been planning for weeks. I turned to look at
him directly. "I'm glad that we were paired, because
you've taught me not to judge people based on rumors, and I
appreciate that. You're a really great guy, but I have a
boyfriend, and I'm not interested....in changing that right
now."
He sighed and looked away. "I'm really sorry Jesse. I
never meant to hurt you."
"Ahh!" he yelled, slamming his hand down on the steering
wheel.
I jumped, a little afraid, "I think I should go-"
"No," he said grabbing my arm. "I'm sorry,
I'm just frusterated. How do you not see it? You spend more
time with me than him, Olivia. What does that say?"
"That you're my partner for a required project, and
we've had to work on it. Since school comes first, Collin and I
haven't seen each a lot lately."
"That's bullshit. You haven't seen him because you
feel something between us too. There's no way you
haven't."
"I haven't Jesse, because I have a boyfriend. I've
only felt that we've been friends." Suddenly he leaned
over, and was very very close to me.
"Tell me you don't feel something right now," he
whispered, staring into my eyes.
I was frozen, I couldn't move. I gulped, "the only thing I
feel is you in my personal space."
"You're lying, I can tell. Because I know you better than
you know yourself," He whispered, and then he closed that inch
of space between us. It took my brain a few minutes to realize what
had happened.
Jesse had kissed me.
