Take me by
the hand
Six
The minutes ticked by and I had barely started, my mind was
wandering.
Tick Tick Tick
I shook my head and tried to read the next passage,
Tick Tick Tick
That noise was so distracting. How was I supposed to do
this?
Tick
Tick Tick
I gritted my teeth and trudged forward, trying my hardest. This
was going to be a long 3 hours, I could already tell.
Tick
Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick
...
"Hey, how testing?" Leilani asked, back in the
hall.
I shrugged, "At least it's over." She sat down and
clucked her tounge.
"Wrong attitude, Nina. If you didn't do well you'll
be placed in low classes.
My head was spinning, I sipped some water and took a bite of my
sandwhich.
"How about I show you around the grounds? Theres a lake
outside."
I nodded, "Sounds good."
She lead me out the doors and along a cobblestone path. We walked
all around the grounds and down where the lake was, students were
hanging all around.
Running around, tossing a football, some just walking.
There was a group of girls sitting underneath the largest Oak
I'd ever seen, they had magazines stacked to the left of one
of them and two of them were exclaiming over some new
mascara.
I let Leilani take me over to the dock, where we took off our
shoes and dangled our feet in the water.
"How are you enjoying yourself so far?" she asked,
trying to make conversation.
I shrugged and looking forward at my reflection in the water.
I guess you could say I was pretty.
I had long, straight black hair, and a small frame.
I had a thin nose and prominent cheekbones, and piercing blue
eyes.
"Oh the nerve." Leilani huffed, calling me back to
attention.
The same group of boys were a couple hundred feet away, at
another dock.
They were tossing stones near us, splashing us purposely with
water.
Instead of getting mad, I started laughing.
I kicked my feet out to splash them back. A shorter one with
dirty blonde hair yelled out, "Weeeeeeaaakk!" He threw
another stone, I laughed and lay back on the warm wood.
"Ugh. Come on, let's go back inside."
Leilani tugged me up and handed my my shoes, I smiled and waved
at the boys as we walked up the long, winding path.
"You're no fun at all," I said, checking the clock
as I dropped onto my bed, it was only noon. I had a sudden
idea.
