“I don’t know what
you’re so worked up about Charlie, but whatever it is you
know you can tell us,” Amie was plaiting my long brown
hair while Vicky painted my nails.
“I think it has something to do with
Dominic!” Vicky sneered, giving me a wink.
I laughed uneasily. Vicky was right, of course. I was nervous
about Dom, and what he said to me yesterday. I was actually
upset that I didn’t get to say goodbye to him, and I
still didn’t know how he knew my name.
Like the day before, we caught the bus and arrived at the
school. As we walked through the front gates I looked through
the crowd towards the group of boys passing a football. They
were the ones that had run by us yesterday. My eyes met
Dom’s. He smirked at me, exactly like the yesterday and
turned away. I felt my face grow hot, and I followed Vicky
towards our first class.
The class passed painfully slowly without Dom in the same room.
I tried to concentrate and take notes on what the teacher was
talking about, but my mind kept drifting off towards the smirk
that suited Dom so well, but had me worried at the same
time.
I gave a sigh of relief and stood up. The next class that I had
was with Dom and I was desperate to interrogate him about that
stupid, gorgeous, ridiculous, charming smirk of his.
I reached the classroom and found Dom already sitting in his
seat, waiting for me. I couldn’t stop the smile from
flashing on my face, but I frowned slightly when I saw the look
on his face. Instead of the smile that had been on his face all
day, there was a concerned, sympathetic look on his face.
I slowly took a seat beside him.
“What’s up?” I asked him.
He sighed and didn’t look into my eyes as he told me
“You know, I was looking forward to proving you wrong,
but as it turns out I don’t really want to hurt
you…”
His voice trailed off as I continued to stare at him,
completely confused.
“What on earth are you talking about?”
He finally looked up at me and pulled an envelope out of his
pocket. He opened it and pulled out some old photos. Dom hands
me the photos. There were only three, and as I was looking at
them I asked Dom, “Who are they?”
The first photo was of a woman holding a baby in a hospital,
obviously right after the baby was born. The lady had tears in
her eyes as she looked down at her child.
“Her name is Donna. I’ve met her a couple of times,
a while ago. To be honest I thought she was insane. And
that,” he said, pointing at the baby, “Is
you.”
