Something More
Than Friends

 *Chapter Four*

Of all the other guys here, Jennifer's spin just had to land on Josh. My jaw dropped, but I quickly closed it to avoid people catching the look of embarrassment and distress on my face. Jennifer looked right my way and smerked deviously, with a glint of satisfaction in her eyes. Josh looked almost as nervous as I did, knowing that what was about to happen wasn't right at all. His eyes trailed down to the sand, but then, the horror began. "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" The group chanted. It started with only a few, but then others felt the need to join in as well. Not wanting to refuse the demands of his peers, Josh looked straight into Jennifer's peircing eyes. He leaned in closer, leaning slightly backward a few times, contradicting his actions. "I.. I can't.." he stammered. "It's just that.." I couldn't believe Josh was actually trying to back out of it. I was sort of relieved that he was man enough not to make out with two girls in one night. Then Josh started speaking again, shaking through his own voice. "You see, I.."   "Oh, just kiss me, Josh." She tempted. "But.." And before he could say anything else, Jennifer forced his lips to connect with hers. And they kissed. Josh's eyes widened with shock, trying to release himself from her powerful grip. But somewhere through that kiss, Josh's face relaxed and he let was was happening happen. He didn't try to fight back anymore; he just sat there, kissing Jennifer like I wasn't even existant.  My eyes were furious with anger, as well as pain. It took all of my strength to hold back the tears that stung my eyes. Jennifer finally leaned back after a few seconds, which seemed to me like hours. Josh just stared blankly at her, not knowing what emotions he should be experiencing. Guilt? Satisfaction? Beats me if I knew what he was thinking. Suddenly, he turned to face me, and his face was painted with instant regret. I know it wasn't really his fault, and that he tried to fight off Jennifer from kissing him at first, but he still made that desicion to give in at last and kiss her back. I could no longer hide the look of pain on my face. Apparently, my sadness was noticeable, because Hanna leaned over too me and whispered in my ear. "It's alright, Brielle." But it wasn't alright. Nothing was alright. Everything  was falling apart. "Brielle, I.." Josh stammered. But I couldn't bare to listen to his words. His soft voice which used to comfort me and make me laugh. But this time, it broke me. Unable to take any more of the staring eyes or hushed voices whispering around the cirle, I stood and and rushed down the sand to the other end of the beach. I didn't stop until I got there, and once I did, I sat down at the shoreline of crystal seawater. Tears streamed down my face like razorblades, stinging my eyes and burning my heart. "Hey, you okay?" I heard a soft voice speak behind me. It was Hanna, and if anyone could comfort me right now, it would be her. "Not really," I mumbled through my tears. She sat down in the sand beside me, and put an arm around my shoulder. "Lets get one thing straight," she started. "Jennifer is a b*tch." I laughed a little and started to wipe away my tears with the end of my white sleeve. "Josh is stupid for kissing her, and he's a fool for doing that to you. You don't deserve that." "I know, but I just like him so much." I protested. "How could he do that to me?" "Well, you know how guys can be. I'm sure soon enough he'll realize his mistake and try to fix what's broken." she ensured me. This is why Hanna is my bestfriend. She always knows what to say to cheer me up. "Thanks, Han," I said to her, sniffling. For the next few minutes, while everyone else was sitting around the campfire finishing the game, Hanna and I just relaxed on the shoreline, taking in the different sounds of night. The crashing ocean waves, the crickets chirping, hidden in the dunes. Nothing I know of had ever been more peaceful.

Then, a voice spoke out over all of the peaceful sounds.
"Hey, Hanna, could I, uh, have a minute to talk to Brielle?"
That voice, belonged to Josh.
