The teacher rambled on, but I continued to
ignore her. I stared at that gorgeous face, and let out a small
laugh. Dominic raised his eyebrows at me.
“What on earth is funny about that?” he frowned at
me, unimpressed.
I smiled. “I really don’t think so. If he was dead,
who have I been living with for the last fourteen
years?”
“I don’t know, but it wasn’t your
father.” His voice was quiet know, like he was deep in
thought.
I couldn’t believe it. I wouldn’t believe it. The
bell rang and I stood up and walked towards the door, Dominic
right beside me the whole time.
“Charlotte, you gotta believe me!” He said to me,
his voice stern. “My parents knew
your-”
“Hello Dominic,” Vicky said as she appeared on the
other side of me.
“Victoria.” Dominic said as he nodded in her
direction. He looked back at me and said, “See you around
Charlotte.”
He disappeared into the crowd as Vicky said to me “Wow, I
was looking at you guys through that lesson, looked like a
pretty intense conversation.”
“You have no idea,” I replied, rolling my
eyes.
We laughed together as we walked towards the cafeteria for
morning tea. We found Amie and sat down at a
table.
“Looks like you’ve got the next class with me
Charlie,” Amie said, smiling. “English with Ms
Mac.”
I beamed back at her. That day, despite Dominic’s crazy
theory about my father, was the best day of my life. It was my
first ever day of school, with my two best friends that I had
only known for a couple of days. Nothing could go
wrong.
The last class of the day, I had math by myself. Vicky and Amie
showed me the classroom, and then went off to their class. I
walked into the classroom and, as fate would have it, Dominic
was sitting by himself at the back. He saw me too, and gestured
for me to join him. I walked over and sat down in the seat next
to him.
“Hey Charlotte,” He smiled at me.
I smile back and said to him, “Calle me
Charlie.”
He gave a little laugh, and said “Okay Charlie.
You can call me Dom.”
