CHAPTER
FOUR

“woah,” i felt
Hannah’s hot breath on the back of my neck, both of us
standing in the doorway of our beach house, breathtaken by
what we found inside. My bright blue eyes widened as they
scanned the front entryway, flip flops clacking on the
granite tile flooring as i walked across the room, examining
every inch of my summer.
In short, the house was gorgeous. Four stories was more than
enough to host an amazing party, and the ocean view was
almost too much to handle. I estimated about a half mile of
beachfront spanning across our backyard, perfectly viewed
from almost any place in the house. From the outside, the
house was built to look like a spanish mansion with stucco
paint on all sides and spanish tiling on the roof.
I struggled with carrying my suitcases up the spiral
staircase leading to our rooms, upstairs. Two seemingly
identical bedrooms took up most of the hallway, directly
across from eachother. I chose the one on the left, setting
my bags on the already-made bed, white comforter tightly
tucked under the mattress. Opening the blinds, i had a
sideways view of the beach, not able to see our property but
instead facing miles of sand and water off in the
distance.
The sun was just starting to set, coloring the sky beautiful
shades of pink and orange. I watched for a moment, hearing
Hannah climb up the stairs, letting all of today sink in.
Realizing that i still had some time to waste before i would
be able to fall asleep, i started unpacking, pulling clothes
out of my bag and stuffing them into the new eight-drawer
dresser situated in the corner of my room.
After a while i found my phone, hidden in a pile of t shirts,
and turned it on, listening to the familiar sound it made as
it powered up. Almost instantly it vibrated, again and again,
probably about ten times before it finally stopped and i was
able to pick it up, checking my messages.
A few invitations to end of the year parties that i would
have to decline, a few messages from friends asking about the
new house & how i liked it in the small town of North
Beach, population 27o, and one message that stuck out.
i dont think this long distance
thing is gonna work out. were over -ben
My breath caught in my throat as i read the message twice,
three times, until i had it memorized, making sure i had read
it right. This had to be a joke. There was no way that Ben,
my boyfriend of four months, would break up with me.
Especially not over text.
I collapsed onto my bed, hands shaking violently.
i could feel tears jerking my eyes, begging to fall, but i
wouldn’t let them. i wasn’t going to let other
people hurt me anymore. Starting tonight, i had a new summer
mission. It didn’t matter how many parties i went to,
how many girls were begging to be my friend, how many trends
i set, or how tan i became.
All that mattered was getting back at Ben, no matter what it
took. I would find someone to take his place and make him
sorry he ever messed with me.
so, i pictured the
house kind of looking like this: http://www.spanish-home-plan.com/images/header.jpg (: hope
