Until
I Met
You
(Chapter
1)
"I'm Jay. Nice to meet you,
Shay." He gives me
a warm smile.
"You too," I keep smiling, and I really don't know
why. I pull my hand away, and he hands me my sandwich.
I open it to see that it's a little messed up, he sees it too
and offers, "I'll buy you a new one."
My eyes grow wide, "No! Please, you don't have too,
I'll eat it."
"Nope, I'm buying you a new one. Trust me, you
know you want it." A devious grin spreads across his
face.
I look up at his brown hair, so perfect, and placed
correctly. Snap out of it Shay!
"Really, you don't have to.."
"But I want to, just let me buy you one." His eyes are
begging and he searches for my face, but I meet his.
I look up, thinking, smiling, patting my finger gently on my chin
with that one of those little words I have to say; yes or no.
"Hmm...." I think, "sure."
"Great." He stands up, and holds out a hand for me, I
take his hand and pulls me up to my feet.
After we order, he asks, "Care to eat with
me?"
I blush, but I look down so he can't see, but he brings my
chin up to meet his eyes and whispers, "Time to eat."
He smirks, somehow knowing that I wasn't expecting him to say
that. I was expecting him to say something like, Your
eyes are prettier than the stars or Don't look down,
you're too beautiful to ever have your head down.
But he didn't. After I think that he shakes his head
and smirks walking to a table.
Weird, I think to myself, and cringe my eyebrows. I just
shake it off and put on a nice smile, then walk to our table
right nest to the window. He unwraps his sandwich and says,
"Great view of the stars." He looks at me,
"Don't you think?"
"Yeah I guess, if you mean all the city lights blocking
them...then I guess it is."
But he just laughs, "Look, there's the North Star."
He points to a bright star.
"I really never knew about that star." I inform him,
waiting for a big long answer.
He takes a deep breath, puts down his sandwich, and takes a sip
of his drink.
"Well, the North Star is is up in the North, and has another
name--Polaris. You see the big dipper? A.K.A. Ursa
Major. If you take the bottom two stars and connect them,
but keep going it leads to a bright star, which is the North
Star. But the North Star is also apart of the little
dipper. Or Ursa Minor." He points to the stars and
continues. "The last star, that starts the handle is the
North Star. See, birds travel or migrate at night, to avoid
prey, and there isn't much wind. But when they're
migrating they look at the North Star and fly away from it when
they're going to the South. And you can guess that when
they're migrating up North again, they follow the North
Star. Isn't that cool? Wow, I just think
that's neat."
I'm shocked. "Now I know, that's fascinating!
No really, it is. I've always loved astronomy.
It's so cool how people from the past made up name for things
like this." I do truly have a thing for astronomy.
We talk more and more.
Then we leave and he says,
"I'll see you around." He gives me the most
delicate smile. It warms me inside.
He gets into his car and leaves.
I whisper to myself, "Goodbye."
