Breathless
Chapter

"Xavier Kingston. His party.” His voice sounded so
full of hatred, as he said this between clenched teeth. I just
shrugged it off, and walked over to Liam’s side of the car.
I grabbed his hand, and looked up at him.
“Let’s have some fun, okay? I came here to have fun
with you, not anybody else,” I said softly, making sure he
got my point. He twined his fingers through mine, and pulled me
up the hill, towards the party.
The party greeted me as soon as I got at the crest of the hill.
The bass of the music made the ground shake, and of course there
was the smell of alcohol. I took a deep breath, and looked over
at Liam. He was so gorgeous. He pulled me out on the dance floor,
and danced with me. I could feel people staring at me, but all I
could do was laugh at the faces Liam kept making at me. I looked
around at all the other people. Most of these girls were dressed
in really flashy dresses and skirts, and by flashy I mean showing
a lot. A whole lot. I turned back to Liam. He was checking some
blonde out. I rolled my eyes. Guys are pathetic sometimes. Liam
saw me looking, and quickly brought his attention back to me.
“You want something to drink?” He yelled over the
music.
“Yeah. Water if you can find it. Please.” Liam
smiled, and went over to the drink table. I swayed a little to
the music. I felt a shove on my back that didn’t feel
accidental. I reared around and found none other than the
pathetic Caitlyn. She had a smirk on her face, and this little
piece of purple fabric glued onto her body.
“Look what the cat dragged in,” She said, glaring at
me. I felt like I was going to be sick. I hated when people
stared at me. It made me feel so self-conscious.
“What do you want?” I asked bitterly.
“For you to stop trying to steal my damn boyfriend.
I’d hate to see that face of yours be beat in.” She
examined her fingernails.
“Is that a threat?”
“No. Just a simple warning. I’d stay away if I were
you. He’d just throw you away after a while.” She
bumped me as she walked past. I grabbed the back of her dress.
She let out a yelp of surprise, and turned to look at me.
“I think you have a problem with me. And I cannot think of
why you could possible dislike me since I have done nothing to
you.” By now, everyone had turned to look at us.
“Obviously. Quit trying to steal my boyfriend.”
“I don’t think he’s that hard to steal,”
I said, bravely. And, that did it. She flung her fist at my face,
but luckily I ducked. I grabbed her arm, and twisted it taking a
cheap shot at her face. I heard her scream, and she started
pulling my hair. I bit my tongue, and yanked free, taking yet
another shot at her face. She stumbled back, and started forward
again. I kicked her square in the leg, and she tumbled to the
ground. Breathing hard, I fixed my hair, straightened my shirt,
and walked off. I heard people start yelling. I kept walking not
caring. Liam caught up with me, and stopped me.
“What happened back there?” He asked, holding my arm
lightly in his hand.
“Nothing,” I said, shaking my head. Thunder rolled up
above our heads. I looked up, and dark clouds were taking shape.
It was going to storm. The wind picked up, cooling me off, and
blowing the hair off of my neck. People were still yelling from
back where Caitlyn was. Liam gave me a look, and it made me feel
guilty. I needed to make sure I hadn’t hurt her too awful
bad. I went back, and she was sitting up, an icepack on her face.
Xavier was bent down in front of her, tending to her. My throat
constricted, and I just wanted to cry. Xavier looked up, and saw
me. I could already tell I was in deep, and there was no
going back.
