    Chapter 15
“Addison,” He said quietly. I shook my head no. “Addison.” he said it louder this time. I turned away, and started walking. I felt someone’s hand on my arm. I turned around and came face to face with Xavier. A few raindrops fell, and kissed my skin, chilling me with happiness.
“Don’t Xavier. Just don’t, okay? Because I don’t want your lecture, and I sure as hell don’t want to talk to you.” My voice quivered. I was on the verge of crying. “You never even wanted to be with me.”
    “I did, Addison.”
“No, you didn’t.” I said, angrily. “You just played this stupid game with the new girl. This stupid screwed game.”
“No.” He said loudly. Everyone turned in our direction. It was sprinkling by now. “I wanna be with you. I wanna spend all my spare time with you, cuddling on the couch, kissing you, talking to you. I want to spend it all with you. And who gives a damn what all those other people think. They’re just people. I don’t care if they stare, or if they tell me I’m stupid, or if they say I just made the biggest mistake of my life. I don’t care. They don’t see you like I do. They don’t know you like I do. And the first time we kissed? I made a big mistake. I made the mistake of letting you go. Of letting you slip right through my fingers and go out with some douche. All that I want is you, Addison Rebecca Sparks. That is all I have ever wanted since I first laid eyes on you.” By now, it was pouring the rain. My makeup ran all down my face, I could feel it. But, Xavier, he made me feel beautiful. And, do you know what I did? I pulled him in, and kissed him, in the rain.
Sorry. This chapter is short. But, I couldn't fit it all on one quote.

    Chapter 14
"Xavier Kingston. His party.” His voice sounded so full of hatred, as he said this between clenched teeth. I just shrugged it off, and walked over to Liam’s side of the car. I grabbed his hand, and looked up at him.
“Let’s have some fun, okay? I came here to have fun with you, not anybody else,” I said softly, making sure he got my point. He twined his fingers through mine, and pulled me up the hill, towards the party.
The party greeted me as soon as I got at the crest of the hill. The bass of the music made the ground shake, and of course there was the smell of alcohol. I took a deep breath, and looked over at Liam. He was so gorgeous. He pulled me out on the dance floor, and danced with me. I could feel people staring at me, but all I could do was laugh at the faces Liam kept making at me. I looked around at all the other people. Most of these girls were dressed in really flashy dresses and skirts, and by flashy I mean showing a lot. A whole lot. I turned back to Liam. He was checking some blonde out. I rolled my eyes. Guys are pathetic sometimes. Liam saw me looking, and quickly brought his attention back to me.
“You want something to drink?” He yelled over the music.
“Yeah. Water if you can find it. Please.” Liam smiled, and went over to the drink table. I swayed a little to the music. I felt a shove on my back that didn’t feel accidental. I reared around and found none other than the pathetic Caitlyn. She had a smirk on her face, and this little piece of purple fabric glued onto her body.
“Look what the cat dragged in,” She said, glaring at me. I felt like I was going to be sick. I hated when people stared at me. It made me feel so self-conscious.
“What do you want?” I asked bitterly.
“For you to stop trying to steal my damn boyfriend. I’d hate to see that face of yours be beat in.” She examined her fingernails.
    “Is that a threat?”
“No. Just a simple warning. I’d stay away if I were you. He’d just throw you away after a while.” She bumped me as she walked past. I grabbed the back of her dress. She let out a yelp of surprise, and turned to look at me.
“I think you have a problem with me. And I cannot think of why you could possible dislike me since I have done nothing to you.” By now, everyone had turned to look at us.
“Obviously. Quit trying to steal my boyfriend.”
“I don’t think he’s that hard to steal,” I said, bravely. And, that did it. She flung her fist at my face, but luckily I ducked. I grabbed her arm, and twisted it taking a cheap shot at her face. I heard her scream, and she started pulling my hair. I bit my tongue, and yanked free, taking yet another shot at her face. She stumbled back, and started forward again. I kicked her square in the leg, and she tumbled to the ground. Breathing hard, I fixed my hair, straightened my shirt, and walked off. I heard people start yelling. I kept walking not caring. Liam caught up with me, and stopped me.
“What happened back there?” He asked, holding my arm lightly in his hand.
“Nothing,” I said, shaking my head. Thunder rolled up above our heads. I looked up, and dark clouds were taking shape. It was going to storm. The wind picked up, cooling me off, and blowing the hair off of my neck. People were still yelling from back where Caitlyn was. Liam gave me a look, and it made me feel guilty. I needed to make sure I hadn’t hurt her too awful bad. I went back, and she was sitting up, an icepack on her face. Xavier was bent down in front of her, tending to her. My throat constricted, and I just wanted to cry. Xavier looked up, and saw me. I could already tell I was in deep, and there was no going back.

    Chapter 13
The most boring person on earth, that’s how I would describe myself. The most idiotic person on earth would fit, too. I had turned down the guy I really liked. Was I stupid? I shook my head in frustration, and headed out to my car. As I approached it, I saw a towering boy leaning against my hood. He had curly black hair that came just above the tops of his ears. As I got closer, I still couldn’t place the boy.
“Uh, hi?” I said as I stepped in front of the boy. “This is my car?” The boy looked at me with the fiercest blue eyes I had ever seen. They were beautiful. He smiled, revealing perfect white teeth behind his tanned lips. He was dark.
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t help myself. I saw you running the other day, and I thought I should introduce myself. I’m Liam Sullivan,” He purred. My knees went a little weak, like they were made from putty. He was just so cute. And he was talking to me. I smiled my best smile.
    “I’m Addison Sparks.”
“Oh, trust me. I know who you are.” Liam looked at me like I had never been looked at. My knees instantly got even weaker. He nodded like he was confirming something. “So, Addison. Would you like to go out with me tonight? Please? It’ll be fun, I swear.” Liam looked down at my, his long black eyelashes blocking the view of his eyes. It made him look… sexy. I didn’t even know this kid, but I felt my lips form the words.
    “I’d love to.”
“Great. I’ll pick you up at seven?” He asked, backing away. I nodded, smiling to him. He turned around, and walked to his Jeep Wrangler. I watched him as he peeled out of the parking lot. So what if I was fighting fire with fire? This fire was a cute fire, and I didn’t care if I got burned.
When I got home, I went into all out get-ready-quick-for-this-hot-date mode. What to wear, what to wear? I had to impress Liam, it was a must. My red cowgirl boots popped into my mind first. Perfect, Addison. I smiled to myself, and pulled them out of their box. The outfit came together itself after that. I slipped into a pair of shorts, and a cut white shirt. I added a little diamond bow necklace, and proceeded to do my makeup. I lightly applied my makeup, keeping it neutral, but making my eyes stand out. I applied mascara to them, and straightened my hair. With my hair straight, it fell a few inches above my waist. I looked at myself. Well, it didn’t look too bad. I looked over at my clock. I still had ten minutes. I went into my bathroom, and brushed my teeth. You can never be too careful when it comes to dates. I sprayed some perfume on my body, and headed downstairs. As I came off the last step, the doorbell rang. I rushed to the door, and opened it. Liam was standing on the other side, looking stunning. His hair fell in perfect little ringlets on the side of his head, and he was wearing the most gorgeous shade of blue. It made his eyes look even brighter.
“You look… beautiful Addison,” Liam said, breathless. His face was flushed. He was just so cute.
“Thank you. You look good yourself.” I smiled at him. Good yourself? Was I drunk? I could be messing this up! Liam returned the smile, setting me at ease.
“So, I was thinking maybe we got to dinner, and then a party?” He looked at me hopeful. A party. Last time I was at one of those, I had thrown a fit on Xavier. I was trying to stay away from all the drinking and drama that came with it. But, as I found myself looking into Liam’s sky blue eyes, I felt myself nod.
“That sounds perfect.” I heard myself murmur. Liam held out his hand, and it took it happily. He opened the midnight blue door to his BMW. Gosh, this kid must be filthy rich. He peeled out of my driveway, and headed straight towards the upper part of Sacramento.
We ate at this really romantic restaurant. My cheeks hurt from laughing so much. Liam was so charming and funny. He was just an all-around good guy. Liam led me out to his BMW, and opened the door for me. Next on the list of to-dos was the party. Stay sober, I thought to myself. I snuck a peak at Liam. He was looking straight ahead, paying close attention to the road. As we rounded the corner of the street, I could already tell I was in for it. Liam parked the car, and got out. This wasn’t going to be good. Why, might you ask? Because. This was Xavier’s party.

    Chapter 11
It seemed like we were driving for hours. We finally stopped at the very top of a mountain. Xavier got out, and sat in the bed of his truck. I got out and joined him, sliding under the blanket he had brought. It was chilly this far up, even though it was still considered summer.
“When you look, you can see almost all of Sacramento. And, for once, the stars,” He said, pointing at the sky. “Down in the city, you can’t because of all the lights. But up here, it’s so clear and beautiful.” He leaned back against the side, and gazed up at the stars. After a few minutes, he finally looked at me.
“It’s beautiful,” I said, looking at his big brown eyes. “It might be one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen.”
“It’s not for me. The most beautiful thing, I mean.” Xavier’s eyes held some intensity. I looked at him, confused. What could possibly be more beautiful than this? As if reading my mind, he answered. “You’re the most beautiful thing I have ever laid my eyes on, Addison Sparks.” Xavier leaned in. After almost four weeks of knowing each other, and wishing for this, he was finally going to kiss me. My heart pounded inside my chest. I had waited for this, for what seemed like forever. I leaned in, meeting him halfway. At first, his lips were soft and patient against mine. But, as he cupped my face, they became more urgent. They slid over mine lazily, making me shiver with delight. I had waited so long, and now it was finally happening. I let the blanket fall down around me, revealing my open jacket and sports bra. Goose bumps rose up on my skin. Xavier placed his hand on my side, sending tingles throughout my whole body, and making me feel like I was on fire. Finally, after a few minutes, I pulled back to take a breath. Xavier leaned his forehead against mine. He smiled, and took my hand.
“You don’t know how long I’ve waited for that,” I admitted, giggling.
“Why didn’t you say something?” He asked his brown eyes wide. Just looking into them made me speechless. I looked down at my hands, playing with the hem of my pants.
“You were with Caitlyn. I had heard so many different things about how you guys would always go back to each other, how you guys broke up five times over the summer. I figured I didn’t stand a chance.” This was the very first time I had ever admitted my feelings for him aloud. I heard him shift, and he was beside me, wrapping his arm around my waist.
“You know, I liked you. That very first day, when Mrs. Plumley paired us up, I saw you, and I felt something stir inside of me. Ever since then it’s been hard to be within a ten foot span of you without pulling you close to me, and kissing you.” I tensed up at his words. They reminded me so much of Daniel. I hadn’t thought of him in weeks, but his image in my mind grew brighter with every passing second. “Addison?” His voice was uneasy, like he was worried. “Why are you crying?” Crying? What was he talking about? I touched my face, and sure enough, there were tears trickling down my face. He took his thumb, and traced the tear tracks down my face, eliminating them.
“I’m sorry,” I said, shaking my head, “It was just the way you said that. Reminded me of someone I… knew.” I decided I wouldn’t bring up Daniel. Things would get messy fast if I did.
“It’s alright. You don’t have to apologize.” He stood up, and held out his hand. “Let’s get back. It’s cold, and you don’t have clothes on.” I blushed, remembering my running outfit. I fumbled with my jacket, zipping it up. I stood up, and took his hand. Nothing had ever felt so good in my entire life.

    Chapter 10
Three weeks have past. Xavier and I hadn’t talked, and I think that’s how Caitlyn preferred it. I was miserable. I saw them together every day, and it made me sick. I don’t see how he could just act like he knew nothing. It’s sick and wrong. Track was starting today. It was the one solid thing in my life that I could exert all of my energy in, and could really focus on to get my mind off of things. Our first meet was today, and we were up against Malibu. I looked up in the stands. There was no one here to watch me, of course. Elijah had started football, and they were too stuck up on that. I stretched, bouncing on the balls of my feet. My stomach had butterflies. Today was my day to show all of them I was good at something. We all lined up in our positions. I readied myself. Three… two… one… GO! I shot forward, taking the lead. It felt so familiar. It was a two mile race. I dodged around obstacles, smiling. Oh, how I had missed this. The familiar burning sensation filled my legs. The half mile marker came into view, and I shot past. I was running fast. I turned around to see if there was anyone behind me. Nobody was in sight. I pushed ahead, pumping my arms faster and faster. I tried to push the image of Xavier from my mind. He kept creeping into my mind, taking over. I forced myself to run faster. I needed to forget about him. The two mile marker came into view, and so did the bleachers. My legs and lungs felt the best they had since I had first got here. As I came across the finish line, I spotted the clock. My time was fourteen minutes and thirty seconds. My new record for the two mile marker. All kinds of people cheered. My coach came and congratulated me. I smiled and looked up. Xavier was standing there, leaning against the fence. My heart jumped. He motioned for me to come over. He was smiling.
“Well, lookie here. The fastest runner in California.” He was still in his football uniform. I had to force myself not to stare at him.
“Yeah,” I said, plainly. I didn’t want to be around him. Every second was a reminder that he isn’t mine, and it literally breaks my heart. “I thought you had a football game?” I looked over at the field. The lights were still on, but the scoreboard was off, and the field was vacant.
“It’s over. We won. It was a blow out. There’s no fun in those games.” Xavier wouldn’t take his eyes off of me. I looked down, feeling uncomfortable, but somewhat pleased. After a few minutes of silence, Xavier talked. “Addison, will you go somewhere with me? I want to show you something.”
“It’s late, and I should really get home.” Even though I really wanted to, I knew I shouldn’t. It would only lead to disappointment later.
“It’s Friday. Come on. I promise you’ll love it.” I sighed. Something about him made me want to tear down all the walls I had built, and let him in. But, I knew better.
“Alright,” I said, timidly. He grinned at me, and pulled me in the direction of his car.

    Chapter 9
There was a horrible pounding feeling taking over my entire skull. I opened one eye, and quickly closed it. The sun was too bright. I took a deep breath. There was an overwhelming fragrance coming from downstairs. It made my stomach ache. I rubbed my eyes. Everything seemed to be amplified a hundred times greater than normal. Getting out of bed, I noticed I had on a baggy gray t-shirt. I didn’t remember putting this on? I threw my hair into a messy bun, and slipped on a pair of sweats and my ‘London 2012’ sweatshirt. I took some ibuprofen, and put my reading glasses on. Today was my lazy day. I really needed to catch up on my reading. Tolstoy had been highly neglected since the move. I desperately needed to catch up on it. I plopped into a chair in the living room. My headache was subsiding with each passing minute, thank goodness. As I got deep into my book, the doorbell rang. I groaned, and trudged over to the door. Only peddlers would be out this early in the morning. I opened the door. “Whatever you’re selling, I don’t…” I stopped when I saw Xavier. He was standing there, hands in his swim trunks, smiling. He smelled so good. Last night suddenly hit me right in the gut. The vodka, the full blown tantrum, the boy with the blonde hair, Xavier’s room, his shirt, his bed. And, his face so close to mine. Heat crept up my face, making my cheeks glow a bright red. I was thoroughly embarrassed.
“I didn’t know you had glasses.” Xavier pointed to my black reading glasses. I fumbled with them, taking them off.
“They’re just reading glasses,” I said, stuttering. Nice going, Addison. I wanted to slap myself. I needed to be cool. I couldn’t manage to be cool around Xavier, though. My nerves go all haywire every time he’s around. He nodded.
“You feeling better?” his face looked concerned. I smiled. He came to see how I was doing. “You were pretty drunk last night. I wanted to make sure you weren’t sick or anything.”
“I’m fine,” I said, as I tried to hide my penguin socks behind the door. Xavier noticed, and looked down at my feet. I saw him smile.
“Those are amazing,” He said, looking back up at me. “Will you take a walk with me?” I nodded, and slipped on some sandals. Xavier led me to the beach, and down to the wet sand. It was cool this morning by the water, but it felt good inside my sweatshirt. We walked in silence for a while, until I finally couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Thanks for last night. I was stupid for saying that stuff, and for getting that drunk. I don’t usually get like that, it’s just been a crap week.” I don’t know why, but I wanted to tell him everything. He must have that effect on everyone, because somebody’s always telling him something. I put my hands in the pockets of my hoodie, just to have something to do.
“About that girl you saw me with. I just want to say ---,”
“Stop,” I said, interrupting him. I did not want to hear about this. He looked at me surprised. “I don’t want to know.”
“Let me explain. I’m not like that, Addison. I made a mistake. I don’t cheat, even if Caitlyn does.” He looked into my eyes, then quickly out to the ocean.
“Why don’t you just leave her? I’m sure you could find someone better than her. I know you could. She is a horrible person. No, I don’t know her, but I can tell. Because I’m good at that. I’m good at reading people. And I can tell you aren’t happy with her.” I made myself stop talking. The words, ‘I’m better than her. You should pick me,’ were poised on the tip of my tongue, ready to slither out when given the chance. I bit my lip, holding back. Xavier didn’t say anything for a few minutes. “You know what, just forget it. I’ll ask Mrs. Plumley if we can switch partners. I don’t like owing things to people. That will be my return favor. Bye, Xavier.” I headed back to my house. He yelled after me, but I didn’t stop. Who cared, right? This was California, and there is an abundance of boys. I didn’t need to get stuck up on one. But, as the day went on, I couldn’t help but have one thought. I don’t want any other guy.

    Chapter 6
Back in South Carolina, I would have gone to a party on a Friday, considering there was always a back to school party. It was the last minute to hook up with someone and not feel guilty. But here in California, this partying didn’t look likely. The school week had been exhausting, even though we went two days. Plus, I hadn’t even been invited. What was the point of showing up if you weren’t invited?
My mind kept drifting back to Xavier. Things had been awkward between us since Thursday at lunch. I think that’s how Caitlyn preferred it, too. We hardly spoke, and the conversation wasn’t easy. It was so confusing. When Caitlyn wasn’t paying attention to us, which was rare, Xavier turned his charm on. Today, he even touched me. Maybe that wasn’t a big deal to some people, and it usually wouldn’t have been with me, either. But, it sent a charge of electricity through me. He tucked a piece of hair behind me ear, and ran his thumb over my jaw. It sounds stupid, but it made my nerves go haywire. I hated thinking any of this, and that’s why I was trying my hardest to block him out. I had been certain he was going to tell me I should come to the party, but Caitlyn had walked up and interrupted our conversation.
Topping all that off, Grace and Elijah had been getting awfully cozy the past two days. She had come home with me after school Thursday, and stayed. At this very moment, she was downstairs with Elijah and my parents, preparing dinner. Everybody seemed happy. How I envied Caitlyn right now. She had taken every opportunity she was given to show me Xavier was hers. When Mrs. Plumley was out of the room, she had come up to our table, and kissed Xavier, putting her hands under his shirt. Although he did look like he was thoroughly enjoying it, he kept looking at me, watching me as she did these things. I think he felt bad, because he told one of his friends that they should take me to the party tonight. I had declined. It was embarrassing, having someone ask you out because their friend told them to. It was quiet annoying, too, how Xavier felt he needed to do everything Caitlyn told him to. I just want to scream at him. I heard a light knock on my door. Elijah was standing against my door frame, a soft smile on his lips. He looked dressed up.
“We’re going to a party. Quit sulking, and get ready.” I looked at him, confused.
    “Party?” I asked.
“Yeah. The party everyone was talking about. I got invited. So, you’re coming with me.” Elijah had to be kidding, right? He wasn’t going to take me, when he could clearly take Grace. “Don’t worry, Grace is coming, too,” He said, as if reading my mind. I got up off of my bed, and went over to my closet. I pulled out my navy blue sundress. I quickly slipped it on.
“Can you tie my bow, please?” I walked out of my closet. Elijah tied the striped bow perfectly. I slipped on my silver sequined heels. I put my charm bracelet and necklace on that my parent’s got me. I curled my hair loosely, running a brush through it when I was finished. I added a touch of mascara and lip-gloss. Turning around in front of the mirror, I noticed Grace had joined Elijah. She was leaning against him, smiling. “Do you need something to wear, Grace?” I asked, turning to look at her. She nodded her head. I pulled out a white skirt with pink underneath, and a pink t shirt. Grace slipped on some bracelets, and my believe necklace, along with a pink pair of heels. I handed her the outfit, and she got dressed quickly. I added curls to her hair, and pinned her bangs back. “You look beautiful,” I said, before I could stop myself. I never gave girls compliments. What was up with me?
“You don’t look too bad yourself,” She said, smiling.
“Let’s go, ladies.” Elijah was standing outside my door, keys in hand. I turned my lamp off, and grabbed my phone. I was going to give Xavier a run for his money.

    Chapter 6
“Somebody’s in love.” Elijah said, grinning at me. In love? I had never even so much as used that word with any of my past boyfriends, and he thinks I’m in love with Xavier? No. I was not in love with him. I just met him, anyway.
“I am not in love.” My voice was harsh. That was absolutely ridiculous. Xavier wasn’t my type. I didn’t go for boys that have that kind of taste in girls. Plus, he wouldn’t even be interested in me. This thought made me upset. Of course Xavier would like me. Why wouldn’t he? But, I don’t care. I’m not ready for a relationship. I looked up, and found Grace smiling. Oh, crap. She thinks I like him, too. Now, she’ll probably blab to every other person about it.
“You’re blushing,” Grace said, leaning forward. She had the biggest smile on her face. “You better be careful, though. Caitlyn and Xavier are a serious on and off couple. They dated five times over the summer.” Grace looked over at Elijah. “Addison, I can already see it. We’re going to be best friends. And you’re going to be the one to steal Xavier away from Caitlyn.” Grace leaned back, taking a bite of pizza.
“No, no, no. I am not taking anybody away.” I glanced around nervously, hoping no one overheard the comment. Why would Grace even think that? Xavier and I had no future. I was sure of it. I don’t even think we could be friends.
“Too late, Addi. The plan is already in motion.” She motioned towards a table behind my back. I turned to look. Xavier was looking at me; his sweater was rumpled like his hair. There was a touch of softness to his stare that didn’t make me want to turn away, rather want to hold his gaze. I had never felt this feeling before. Like a million little bombs were going off in my stomach. It didn’t hurt, it was a good feeling. It was the feeling of love.

I plopped down into the hard plastic chair, examining my book. This was the one thing I was actually good at.Sure, I got straight A’s, but I really understood Bio.I glanced up, looking at my teacher. She was a fragile looking old woman, with a sweet serene face. She reminded me of my grandmother, only younger.I pulled my jacket off, and laid it in the seat next to me.I was hoping nobody would want the new girl.Students kept flooding into the room, picking seats here and there. The seat beside me remained vacant.I would be by myself, no annoying partner to do projects with. The teacher wrote her name on the board, Mrs. Plumley, in big handwriting.I was actually excited, not that I would dare to ever say that. About ten minutes into class, the door opened. I heard light footsteps, but never did it occur to me that there was one seat left. The seat right beside of me.
“Xavier Kings, thank you for finally joining us.” I could hear a hint of jokiness in Mrs. Plumley’s voice. The boy mumbled an apology. “Well, since there is only one seat left, it looks like you get to be paired up with… a Miss Addison Sparks, dear.” I looked up slowly from my book. My heart completely stopped, and my breath caught in my throat. A gorgeous face was looking directly at me, a blank expression spewed across it. That’s not exactly what you wanted to see. The boy made his way to our table, and sat his books down quietly. I grabbed my jacket, folded it neatly, and sat it on my bag. “Now, class. I want you to all get to know your partner. For the rest of the period, you’re going to play twenty questions. Have fun.” Mrs. Plumley’s gaze settled on me, and a gentle smile formed at her lips. The boys chair scraped against the floor, making a metallic sound. Never had I ever been this nervous about something in my entire life. I took a deep breath, and looked over at him. A pair of deep dark brown eyes was looking me over. They reminded me of melted chocolate, with bits of caramel in it. I had never seen something so astonishing in my entire life.
“Hey,” I managed to choke out, trying to act collected. “I’m Addison Sparks.” I searched his face for any feeling at all. A cute lopsided grin stretched across his lips.
“I’m Xavier Kings,” He said smoothly. His voice was like honey, sweet and smooth, pouring over everything. “Nice to meet you, Addison Sparks.”
“That’s exactly what I was thinking, Xavier Kings. It’s always nice to meet moi.” He chuckled, grinning at me. “First question. Are we going to call each other by our whole names?”
“That just depends,” He said, leaning over on the table. “Are we going to be seeing each other more often?” I couldn’t help but laugh at this. He was flirting, and I was actually flirting back.
“Maybe, maybe not,” I said, winking at him.
“Ooh, a girl that puts up a challenge. I like that.” Xavier’s warm, brown eyes looked at me. “Next question. Where are you from? I haven’t seen you around before.” This was the question I dreaded. I really didn’t want people to know about my past. I liked keeping everything in control. But, instead I found myself telling this boy I had met only five minutes earlier.
“South Carolina. My dad’s boss needed him here. So, they decided to ruin my life. Such a sad story, if I do say so myself.”
“Yes, what a tragedy, having to move out to California because your parents wanted to. What ever shall you do, Addison Sparks?” I giggled. This conversation was actually easy. Most of the time, I had to really talk my way into going out with a guy, just because I had been with so many. Then again, this was on the other side of the country. People didn’t know me here. Xavier asked me questions, keeping the conversation alive. About halfway through class, a paper airplane sailed onto my table, and landed perfectly right in front of me. Xavier was too busy writing something down, so I quickly snatched the paper, and unfolded it. In neat, bubble letters was written a tiny little message. Stay away from my boyfriend, tramp. I turned around to see who had written the note. Nobody seemed out of place. I turned back around, and crumpled the paper up. I was not getting mixed up with the wrong people again. I looked over at Xavier, cautiously. His brown hair fell lazily around his face. His beautiful eyes were framed with thick, long eyelashes. His eyebrows were creased in concentration. He has one deep dimple, sticking out against his cheek. His skin is perfectly tanned. I could go on and on about him. Xavier looked at me out of the corner of his eye.
“Why are you looking at me like that, Addison Sparks? Is there something wrong with my face?” I smiled.
“No. There’s nothing wrong with your face. I was watching you. You were concentrating really hard on that,” I motioned to the paper that was between his hands, “I thought it was quite amusing.”
He smiled. “I was just going to ask ---,” The bell rang, and a bleached blonde wrapped her arms around his neck. She glared at me, and I could tell she was the one who flew the paper airplane. She kissed his neck, and whispered something into his ear. Xavier’s eyes grew wide, and his face lit up. Xavier and the girl headed towards the locker room. One painful thought came into my mind. That’s what I did.

    Chapter 2
When I first caught a glimpse of my new high school, I had to do a double take. Okay, so maybe South Carolina doesn’t have the biggest schools, but this school was the mother of every other. The campus and landscaping were amazing. Pops of colorful flowers were everywhere you looked, and big thick palm trees lined the parking lot. It could be a lot to take in at one given moment, but once you stopped, it was mesmerizing. Elijah got out and slammed his door, snapping me back to reality. I was so glad I picked my lucky outfit to where to school. By the looks of things, I was going to need all the luck I could possibly get.
When I was little, I could talk to anyone who came up to me. I wasn’t the least bit shy. My mother used to always say I had very good people skills. But, as I got into middle school, I became really shy and timid. I think we all hit that phase at some point. As for me, it lasted all the way up until eighth grade. Sure, I had average looks, and an average body, but let’s face it. If you don’t have any friends the chances of a guy noticing you are slim. Eighth grade was a big change. I met my best friends. I put out, like any normal girl does. Here’s where my people skills kicked back in. I knew everybody at my school. It was a good sized school, if I do say so myself. Knowing what to say at exactly the right time was like my sixth sense. That’s why I was good at lying. And, of course, getting people to do what I wanted them to.
As I walked into the main office, I took in the whole scene. Brightly painted walls, check ; uncomfortable plastic chairs, check ; weird smell that always seemed to linger like rotting fruit, check ; and, of course, the school’s ‘bad boy’ waiting for his daily talk, check. I did a double take of the boy sitting in the chair, and then quickly decided he wasn’t my type. I was quick to make snap judgments. I drummed my fingers on the counter loudly, trying to get the secretary’s attention. She looked up at me, brushing her bangs out of her eyes as she did so. Bleached blonde hair, blue eyes, and a tan, this definitely fit every description I’d ever heard about California. She was pretty, I’ll give her that. But, she needed a different wardrobe, in a desperate way. I mean, for a twenty some year old, you think she’d have better taste.
“How can I help you, sweetheart?” She smiled warmly at me. Okay, so she was nice.
“I need my schedule, and my brother’s. Elijah and Addison Sparks.” I flashed a well-practiced, fake smile. The woman tapped a few keys, and handed me two warm pieces of paper. I walked out of the office, my heels making a dull clanking sound against the tiles. Elijah stood just outside the door, leaning against the white wall. I rolled my eyes at him. “We have all the same classes. Looks like you can look at this beautiful face all day long.” I winked at him, and started walking towards my locker. Locker 3055. I walked down a couple of hallways, and stopped in front of a set of lockers. I was completely and utterly lost. I stared down at my paper, dumbfounded. Maybe orientation wouldn’t have been such a bad idea. A bright, redhead came sauntering down the hallway.
“You look lost.” Her voice boomed off the vacant walls in the hallway. I studied her. She seemed just as out of place as I did. She had long, straight, bright red hair that came down just between her shoulder blades. Freckles dotted her cheekbones and nose, standing out against her pale skin. She was beautiful, and I envied her, not like I’d ever admit that to any girl. If there was one thing I learned about girls, it’s that they can be really nasty. I’m talking from experience. I’m pretty nasty myself. So, you have to be careful who you talk to. This girl, by the looks of it, didn’t seem harmless. In fact, she seemed vicious, another copy of me, just different details.
    “Actually, I was just ---,”
“Don’t give me that bull. I can tell by the look on your face,” The girl said, cutting me off. “Now, what are you looking for?”
“Locker 3055,” I said, pointing down to my paper. The girl looped her arm through mine, and hauled me off in the opposite direction. So much for avoiding the girls around here. I sighed, listening to the steady clanking noise my high heels made. We stopped abruptly in front of a locker. The red head opened it up. “Thanks,” I said, stuffing my bag in it.
“I’m Grace Prince, by the way. If you ever need anything, give me a holler, alright?” I nodded, and closed my locker. “Come find me today at lunch. We’ll talk.” Grace flashed a gorgeous smile, and headed off into a classroom. Well, so much for staying out of trouble.

Ok, so I'm gonna start a new story? It's gonna be called, 'The Girl on Fire.' Whatcha guys think?
Scars. Crisscrossing everywhere. That makes me different. Everyone stares at me like I'm some kind of freak show. Freedom. It's just out of my reach. I want to go, but my family is more important. I'm a bitter, closedup, scarred girl. The doors of my heart are sealed tight. Once you enter, goodluck getting out.

:)
