Evan
Evan.
His name rang
through my ears and stuck in my brain, just like the lyrics
to your favourite song.
Evan,
the voice
whispered again, making me cringe in my seat. It’s as
if it had its own heart beat
and the beating got louder and louder.
Evan,
Evan, Evan. I closed my eyes and
turned up the
music on my headphones, hoping it’d block out the
sound. As it continued, the once whispered voice quickly
became a shrilled scream. Evan, Evan,
Evan, EVAN!
“NO!” I
screamed, burring my face into my palms. This
couldn’t be happening to me. It felt as if in that
few seconds, that my world had came crashing to the ground.
The walls felt like they were closing in on me and I had no
escape. I tried to imagine being somewhere else, but it was
no use. I tried to imagine being
somewhere else, but it was no use. His memory invaded
me.
“You know
what’d be awesome?”
“What?” I
said with a smile. Evan traced the outline of my hand with
his fingers. They felt so light and gentle. With him, it
was like nothing could go wrong.
“Going to
Alaska,” he responded.
“Going to Alaska,
huh?” I echoed him in a mocking tone. “Why
Alaska? What’s so special about
it?”
“Well, not only is
there a ton of snow, but there’s the polar bears too
and penguins.”
“You don’t
say?” I said with a smirk.
Evan laughed his charming laugh. It sounded like music.
After a moment, he stopped tracing my hand and looked up at
me. His expression went from joking around to completely
serious. “I’d love to see the Northern Lights.
Do you know how ... amazing it’d be? It’s
definitely a once in a lifetime
thing.”
We sat in
silence for a while as I studied his face. Now, his voice
was soft and whispered. “And to experience it with
you, would make it all the better.” I smiled at his
words as he leaned in.
Evan
wasn’t just any boy. When I first met Evan, I was
convinced he was the love of my life and I still believe
the same thing today. There was something about him,
there issomething
about him ... I swear. I don’t know what it is, or
how it came to be, but it makes me go absolutely crazy,
every time I think of his sea blue eyes or shaggy brown
hair. You see, they say you only fall completely in love,
once in your life. I don’t buy it. With Evan, I fell
in love over and over again, with every passing second,
minute, day and year. Whither he was with me or
not.
