Rescue Me

Chapter 21
Zayn's POV

After the movie night the girls went home and we all walked upstairs to our rooms and slept.  The next morning I woke up calmly.  I walked down the stairs and grabbed a box of cereal and poured it into a bowl.  After I finished I walked over to the couch and saw Niall wrapped in a blanket watching a random show.  I shrugged and sat down next to him.

Later the door bell rang and I stood up to get it.  "Hello?  Oh, hey Julia." I gave her a hug.  "Hey, can we talk?" she asked, "Umm, yeah sure." I fell back onto the couch.  "Privately." she mumbled, and looked at Niall, "Niall, can you leave for a minute?" he stood up and walked over to her, they started to whisper, but he walked out after a second.  "So, what do you want to talk about?" I asked.  "You like N." she stated pretty confidently.  "Where'd you, err, get that idea from?" I asked nervously, she would probably tell her.  "Oh, c'mon man!  It's pretty damn obvious, well, obvious to everyone, but her."  "Julia, don't say anything okay?" she smiled.  "I'm not going to her, and if it makes you feel better, I think she likes you too." I smiled this time, "But I'm not sure, she's kind of a hard girl to read."  "I noticed." we laughed.  "Want some tips?"  "What?" her question confused me.  "She's hard to read, I just said that, but she's also not the easiest person to impress." I looked at her, "So how do I, err, 'impress' her?"
She laughed and shook her head, "See the whole thing is, people always try to impress her, so she doesn't want someone to impress her, she wants someone to be themselves around her.  But, you seem to be doing a pretty great job at that." I smiled wide.  "So I'm doing good so far?" she laughed, "Yeah, very good so far." she laughed again.  "You should know that she would rather have someone to talk to and snuggle with than kiss in the pouring rain, her whole life, she's kept things bottled.  But, if you lend her your ear she'll talk it off.  If she's crying hysterical she doesn't want to be told that 'everything will be okay' she knows that already."  "What do I do then?"  "You just sit there."  "Sit there?"  "Be absolutely quiet and just hug her until she stops, then ask what's wrong."

Julia told me all these different things about N.  I was amazed at how alike we were.  I laughed and smiled at most of what she said about her best friend.  Some things made me sad, but she told me not to be sad.  "The last thing you need to know is also the most important, okay?" I nodded, "She may come off as a strong girl most of the time, but she crumbles, a lot more than you'd think.  When the paparazzi were chasing her, and when Chance went to pick her up . . . that's the hardest I've ever seen her fall.  You need to be strong for her sometimes, most of the time she'll say she's fine, she's lying."
