part 8.
After awhile she finally started looking better. Everyone had
gathered around trying to do anything and everything they could to
help. She started looking and sounding better than she was before
and had stopped throwing up. I got up, lifting her up with me.
Jeremey was stronger than I am, so he helped me get her in the car.
I said good night to everyone, then drove back to her house slowly.
I pulled up to her house and slowly walked over to her side of the
car and carried her to the front door. I rang the door bell once
and waited. It wasn't much a struggle to hold her, after a
couple of moments, I came to reason that her family was dead asleep
by now, So I started thinking about taking her back to the car and
take her to my place. Suddenly the door slowly opened.
"hello?" Her dad asked slowly.
"hi, sir, I was here earlier to pick up Leslie to take her out
on our date, I'm sorry I'm returning her so late." I
said nervously. He inhaled deeply, then looked at me with a slight
smirk.
"how bad is she.." He asked looking at her, I
could've swore I heard a light chuckle out of him.
"pretty bad.." I slightly smiled. He nodded
"follow me to her room, boy." He sighed. I nodded and
walked in. He closed the door and walked me up a set of stairs with
two rooms at either side of the tiny hall, and a small bathroom in
between the two rooms. He lead me to the room to the left, opened
the door and turned on the light. I walked over to the bed, placed
her down, and put all the blankets on her, then I walked over to
him slowly.
"thank you for bringing her home, you're a good man. It
means a lot to me." He said. I nodded. He shook my hand, then
turned off her light and we walked downstairs.
"get home safely now.. and come back tomorrow if you'd
like." He said walking me to the door. I nodded.
"thanks, I will, good night." I said, and walked to my
car and drove home. Once I walked in the door I went to bed. I woke
up the next morning at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I got up and
took my phone with me to the kitchen.I went in the sun room and ate
my bagel while starting to talk to John. He was basically just
worried about Leslie, and wanted to know what happened when I
brought her home last night. After I was done eating I took a
shower and got dressed to go to Leslie's to see how she was
feeling. I headed out the door was 3:30. I walked up to the front
door and rang the door bell as I leaned against the railing waiting
for the door to be opened. Leslie walked out infront of me, with
some-what teary eyes, the skin around her eyes was red, like she
had been rubbing them, she wasn't smiling, and her skin looked
really pale, I looked at her confused.
"don't worry about it.." she sighed looking away,
knowing that I was worried about the way she looked.
"how are you feeling.." I asked, changing the subject,
she just starred at me, giving me my answer.
"do you want to leave?" I asked motioning to my car.
"Ok.. I just needa get dressed." She sighed, looking down
at her pajamas. I nodded and walked to my car, and waited for her.
Once she came back I headed towards the nearest park, just so I
could park there and talk to her, I had no intention of actually
going into the park. Leslie cracked a smile and just looked over at
me.
"out of all places in New Hampshire to take me away from my
house, you choose a park 3 blocks away from my house." She
chuckled lightly.
"well, I just needed a place to park cause I wanna talk to
you.." I laughed, she rolled her eyes and leaned agains the
car door, getting comfortable. She sat crossed-legged and took her
shoes off, I just rolled my eyes laughing at her.
"what do you wanna talk about?" she asked.
"what ever you told me you were going to tell me Friday, but
never did, and what happened before I came over just now." I
sighed. She just looked down, and didn't answer me right
away.
"don't tell me anything you don't want to.." I
said, she just nodded.
"well, last week, when you saw me sitting at that lunch table,
with those girls. I don't know a single one of them. Infact, I
don't personally know anyone in this school, besides now you,
and your friends. Before you started talking to me, the only other
person who would talk to me, and not about me, was John. Everyone
else would just talk about me, and stare. I had no friends, untill
you introduced me to everyone last night, and that day at lunch.
That is why my dad was so grateful that you brought me home and
what not, and why I was so happy that walked me from lunch to
english for the last three days of school last week." She
said. I nodded, not knowing what else to say.
"why were they talking about.." I asked confused.
"just talking about my family problems, and because of them I
lost a lot of friends, and everyone just isolated me." She
shrugged. I looked at her confused. She sighed and began telling me
about her family problems.
"well, my brother had a drinking problem, so my mom kicked him
out of the house, thinking that he would start getting help because
he would want a place to live, but that wasn't the case, he
just fled to New York with like, 4 of his friends, taking.. (she
cleared her throat) children... with them. You have probably heard
him in all the news reports for the past like... 5 months. Him and
his friends kidnapped 4 kids." She shrugged looking down,
embarrassed and upset. I didn't respond. How could I? I just
starred at her, trying to reason in my head, that, that horrible
man that tortured me, Lydia, Abby, and Lindsey, was related to this
sweet, quiet girl sitting infront of me right now, It just
didn't make any sense to me.
