Best
friend. or
boyfriend?
Chapter
thirty-one
The next morning I woke up, feeling
completely refreshed, walked downstairs and began to pour myself
a bowl of cereal. That is when it hit me. The events of the night
before tumbled back into my brain. Matt, Trent and Callie, Hunter
and I, Callie coming to my room.
My phone rang, "hello?" I answered.
"Hey Kell, sorry I can't make it today to work on the
project, a family thing, can we do it tomorrow?"
"We have school tomorrow Hunter?"
"No we don't, the projects due tuesday, we have tomorrow
off too..."
"Are you sure?" I asked, not really believing him, I
checked the school calander and noticed he was right, we
didn't have school tomorrow.
"Looks like you're right! Alright sure tomorrow will
work fine, just call me before you come okay?"
"Alright sounds good! Got to go bye!"
Well that was short and sweet. Ugh, this situation is so
stressful. Frusterated, I leaned back against the fridge, putting
my head in my hands.
"Um... Kelly? Are... you alright?" I heard a soft voice
ask.
"Derek? What are you doing here?" I questioned back,
suprised.
"Oh, uh, Jake needed some guys to come and help clean up,
and throw the unconscious bodies into your front lawn," he
explained.
"Ah, I see. And yeah I'm fine, just a lot of things
flowing through my mind right now."
"Yeah, after the whole thing with Ma-" he stopped
himself, not wanting to bring it up.
"Well yeah that too..."
"You mean there's more?"
"Uh... yeah..." I said hesitantly. Could I trust Derek?
His next question would for surely be about what else was
troubling me. Why did he even care? Does he like me? Well, I
don't really want to tell him then.
"I mean you don't have to tell me," he was
interrupted by his phone ringing. He took it, which seemed a bit
rude to me since we were in the middle of a conversation.
"Hey! No I'm not really busy," he wasn't busy?
Well that stung a little.... "oh, okay. No it's fine
I'll talk to you later, yeah thanks for calling... yeah, a
few days sounds fine, bye."
"I don't want to be rude, but who was that?" I
blurted.
"Ally..." he answered, even though he seemed like he
didn't want to.
"Ally Frederickson? Gosh I miss that girl! She was really
nice, we were pretty good friends, then she moved out of our
school range right? Don't we have an open enrollment? I
thought we did, maybe not..." I explained. Ally was the
nicest girl you will ever meet, she seemed to be friends with
everybody, super pretty too. From what I remember, her and Derek
were pretty close, I was sort of jealous of her for a while.
"Yeah we do, but her parents didn't want to pay to get
her all the way here, she lives like twenty minutes
away," he stated.
"Does Derek have a girlfriend?" I taunted, smiling.
"I wish," I barely heard him mumble, "no,
we're... friends...."
"Stuck in the friends zone huh?" I said
understandingly.
"Yeah," he admitted, smiling sheepishly.
"I can help with that."
"I might take you up on that."
"Derek! Jimmy weighs like two hundred pounds, help me get
this fatty off the kitchen table," we heard someone yell
from the dining room.
"Looks like I gotta go. Hey, you want to go catch a movie or
something tonight?" he asked.
"Uh..." I said hesitantly.
"Just as friends of course. I mean, I think you've
figured out I like Ally, and my guess is your other problem has
to do with a guy right?"
I smiled in response.
"Yeah, I thought so. Well you can tell me all about him
tonight. Ill text ya and we'll figure out the movie and time
okay? Okay cool, talk to you later Kelly!" (A/N hello lovely
readers! Okay so I'd just like to point out something. Notice
how he said he'd text her like when to go and stuff? Yeah
thats how it should be done! Have you ever noticed that like in
movies and stuff when a guy like asks a girl out they never
really mention like a time? They're just like okay I'll
see you tonight. And I'm liike no. That is not how its done.
That's stupid, what are you guys like telepathic? Just
thought I'd let you guys know, so happy reading! And the
story continues....)
I nodded in agreement and watched him jog off. Thinking about it,
I was sort of excited for tonight. Me, going out to a movie
with a guy who's just my friend, sounds like fun.
Plus, Hunter's coming over tomorrow to work on our
profject! That'll give us a chance to talk about
all of this.
I ate my cereal and went to help my brother and his friends,
hanging out with the guys was never boring, and definetly got my
mind off
things.
