Give

Chance
chapter 1
I blew a strand of blond hair out of my
face, and kicked off my flip flops. I looked ahead of me and took
in the beautiful scenery. The long boardwalk with tiny little
shops and venders, surrounded by people of all ages. The beach
with the waves crashing down on the shore. Figures lying down on
the sand. Children making sandcastles. Teenagers surfing. Nothing
at all like Maine, which was cold, and didn't have as much
people. Maine was fun if you didn't mind shoveling snow all the
time.
When my father announced we were moving to sunny California, I
didn't know what to expect. I was so used to the cold, and
wearing mittens and winter coats, not shorts and bikinis. I
wasn't exactly the most popular person at my school, and I didn't
have a boyfriend, so I couldn't be missing out on anything
leaving. It was a chance to start fresh. Make a new person out of
myself. I started walking, feeling the hot powdery sand beneath
my feet. I made my way down to the water, and dipped my feet in.
The water was cold, but not freezing. It was refreshing. I closed
my eyes, and took in the feeling.
My thoughts were interrupted when I heard a voice behind me yell,
"Duck!" I spun around, and was struck by a football in the center
of my forehead. I fell backwards into the water, and put my hand
on my head. Everything was spinning, and I saw a character walk
up to me, and hold out their hand. I tried to grab the hand, but
it looked like there were so many.
"You idiot! She can't even see right," said a girl that seemed to
be about my age. "Hey. I'm so sorry. My brother and I were
playing football and he has horrible aim."
I shrugged and she grabbed my hand, and pulled me up. I stumbled
a little, and she helped me regain balance. I shook my head and I
began to see things clearly now. The girl was looking at me with
a worried expression.
She had wavy brown hair that hit mid-back, and had a toned, tan
body. A light sprinkle of freckles covered her nose, and she had
bright green eyes. She looked like she belonged here. Unlike
pale, blond, blue-eyed me.
I waved my hand. "It's ok. I'm fine. It was an accident."
She smiled and replied, "Oh thank gosh! I'm glad you're ok. I've
never seen you here before. Are you visiting?" I shook my head
and answered, "No. I actually just moved here. I used to live in
Maine."
Her green eyes sparkled and she responded in an excited tone,
"Yay! My name's Chelsea. You'll love it here. I definitely do." I
grinned and stuck out my hand. "Thank you. My name's Annalise."
She grabbed my hand, and shook it.
She showed off her pearly whites and said, "Welcome to California
Annalise."
