The
Mistake.
Chapter 4,
We
arrived at a lake,
It was dark and all I could hear was the
sound of the water.
“Where are we?” I asked looking
around.
“The lake near the park” he said
smiling, he turned me around and showed me a tree
house.
“My mom bought me here ever Saturday
afternoon” he gulped; I knew he was going to cry or go all
depressed on me.
“You don’t have to talk about
it” I said pulling my arm around him, I felt him
shiver.
“It helps me” he let out a
reassuring smile, “We’d have a picnic and we’d
go up there and watch the clouds”
“That’s nice” I said, a
tear escaped from my eye. I never experienced anything like that
with my mom.
“Do you and your mom spend time
together?” he said going up the ladder.
“You saw my mom” I
said.
“Sorry” he said grabbing my hand
to help me onto the first step.
I quickly followed him up to see some old
food, sleeping bag and a torch.
He put on the torch where I saw his ice blue
eyes stare at me.
“You know I’ve never had a friend
like you” he said tilting his head.
He was either examining me or looking at me
from sideways.
“Well...I’m your friend” I
said smiling, he moved closer to me placing a blanket around my
shoulders.
“Thanks” he said pulling his
knees to his chest.
“So you sleep here?” I asked
looking around once again.
“Sometimes or I sleep in the
alley” he said looking at an old watch on his
wrist.
“What time is it?” I asked trying
to stand up but the tree house sounded like it could collapse any
second.
“9.04pm” he
said.
“I better go” I said smiling,
“It’s been nice”
“We’ll see each other again
right?” he asked smiling.
“Sure, I’ll probably be at the
food store again tomorrow” I said shaking his
hand.
I walked down the ladder and headed
home.
To see mom and dad were sitting in the
lounge, one smokes and the other drinking.
I wish one day my parents would care where I
was and if I was late back they’d ground
me.
I’ve never been grounded, never got in
trouble by my parents and I’ve never been allowed to bring
friends into the house.
Well I was but I didn’t want them to
see me, the only person who saw my house was
Rocco.
I ran upstairs sitting on my bed and looking
at the rucksack that was left on the floor from the last time I
ran away.
I looked outside and saw a tree swaying in
the wind; I bit my lip and packed a few clothes, what could go
wrong?
