Becca watched cars zoom past
as she and Caroline slowed to a stop at a red
light.
"If you were more careful, this wouldn't be
happening so often."
"It doesn't happen often! It happened like
once."
"You just have to be the bad guy, don't
you?"
"Oh like you're any better, miss 'I'll
just go sleepover with my sexy friend Blake. Gabe
won't care'. Did you even talk to
him?"
"I didn't get the chance. Too busy save your
butt."
"You didn't save anything. I could've got
out of that on my own."
"Fiona's going to tell all the guys in the
school, you know. She's not afraid of
you."
"Let her tell..." Caroline said. She gripped
the wheel tight and her knuckles were turning
white.
"I thought maybe you'd say thank
you."
"Thanks for saving my butt, sissy-poo."
"Whatever. Be like that."
"Whatever yourself."
"You should really look into learning to keep
things private, Caroline. One day, I won't be
around to say 'she's just kidding' and drag
you away."
"It was my secret to tell. I could've handled
it myself." Caroline said. She pulled into their
driveway and shut off the car.
"Well, let's just see. Next time, I won't
help. We'll see how you handle it."
Becca said triumphantly.
