We wash off the sand in the showers outside.
Evan still managed not to get his clothes wet,
though. I was soaked, and freezing. Evan had a
blanket in his jeep, so he wrapped it around me
and hugged me close, kissing my head.
“I must be the luckiest guy in the
world,” he said.
“I am the luckiest girl in the
world,” I smiled.
He kissed my neck, “Time to go
back.”
***
“You went for a swim? In October?”
asked Annie, her eyes wide.
I laughed, “Yup!”
“And you aren’t cold?” she
asked.
I looked at Evan’s arms, which were
tightly wrapped around me, stopping my
shivers.
“Nope.”
She laughed, “You crazy
kids.”
I smiled up at Evan and we walked to my room. I
changed into my pajamas and brushed my teeth.
When I got out, Evan was standing, looking
around the room nervously, and tapping his
foot.
I gave him a look, “You okay,
Ev?”
He laughed nervously, “Yeah. Come
here.”
I walked over to him, and he pulled me close to
his chest.
“Do you love me?” he asked.
I gave him a sarcastic look, “No. Not at
all.”
“I’m serious.”
“Evan! You’re being silly! Of
course I love you. More than
anything.”
Suddenly, he got on his knee. You’d think
I’d be surprised, but I wasn’t. I
was content. He opened a black, velvet box,
exposing an absolutely beautiful ring that
sparkled in the light.
“When you turn eighteen, marry me. Move
in with me. Never, ever leave
me.”
I kneeled down with him. I knew that
wasn’t the proper thing to do, but who
cares? He’s my best friend and my
fiancé.
“Yes please,” I said, snuggling up
to he chest. I put my hand so he could slide
the promise ring into place.
“It fits perfect,” he said.
“Yeah, kind of like these,” I said
pressing my lips to his.
He smiled, “I love you.”
