The bell rang and I went on to first period. Then second, and finally third. I loved third period because it is the only period where Bobby and I are in the same class. It was English and today we were working with partners.
Everyone looked to their lefts and right distinguishing who they wanted as a partner. I already knew that I would work with Bobby though. I smiled at him, and he smiled back at me.
There's that sweet smile I've been longing to see for the past few days. Just then Mr.Green speaks loudly."You will pick a name out of the jar and that person will be your partner. This will count as 25% of your grade, and I know with only a month left of school you seniors can not afford to slack off on this assignment."
The smile immediately left my face as I gave a confused look to Mr.Green. "Is there a problem Melony?" He asks catching the look I just gave him.
"Well, yes! I mean this is our last assignment, I believe it's only fair to pick our own partners. I think the whole class would back me up on that." I turn to look at everyone nodding their heads in agreement.
"Melony I understand this is because you want to work with Bobby, but you'll have plenty of time to see your boyfriend after class, school, and whenever else if you don't get him as a partner."
Did I just get showed up by a fifty year old gray haired man?
I go to sit back down but just before I do Mr.Green adds that since I'm already standing would I do the honor of picking the first name. I look over at Bobby. Then walk up to Mr.Green's desk. Putting my hand into the jar filled with tiny pieces of paper I swish my hand around.
"Eyes closed."Mr. Green instructs.
I close my eyes. With a paper in my hand I pull it out. Please be Bobby. Please be Bobby. I hold it out in front of me. Mr.Green takes it from my hand and unfolds it slowly. Please be Bobby. Please be Bobby.
"Melony your partner is Nate Marks." Mr.Green says. "Please take a seat next to him."
I look around the classroom. I have no idea who Nate Marks is. I look at Mr.Green. "Who is he?" A few people giggle. Some girl sucks in her breathe as if I were supposed to know who he was. The only person I ever bothered with in here as Bobby, so how was I supposed to know. "Nate, raise you hand please." Mr. Greens says.
I see a blond head of hair and an arm in the air and walk over towards him. He smiles at me as I approach him. It was blue eyes! Hmm. I never knew he was in my class, or that his name was Nate. I smile back at him as I slide into the seat next to him.
"Hello again." He says offering out his hand. I look over at Bobby.He is staring at me with such intensity. I look back to blue eyes, I mean Nate, and move my eyes left to right. I hoped he would understand that I was trying to tell him no. To put his hand away. Bobby already didn't like him because he looked at me, but to touch his hand would be much worse. I glanced over my shoulder at Bobby and he put his hand down.
"Bobby."Mr.Green says."Would you please come pick out a name." He walked up to the jar and pulled out Jasons name. He seemed happy with that pick. He walked over and sat next to Jason. As soon as the class was done picking partners names and we were settled down in our seats Mr.Green spoke again. "So I'm aware that some of you might not know your partner very well." He looks at me"Or maybe even not at all." The class laughs a little and gives me a few glances. I smile stupidly. "So, why don't you take the time right now to get to know each other. I'm making it your responsibility to get together after school and learn more about each other. This is your assignment. In one month I expect a two page paper all about your partener on my desk. Nothing inappropriate please. You will read these in front of the whole class."
This was our big assignment. To learn write a paper all about our partner. What the hell is the purpose of that?
