Chapter
four.
“Hey
slowpoke.” I said as she rushed in through the
doors.
“Sorry, I was getting yelled
at.” I didn’t even bother to ask what for.
“Just grab your stuff, my mom’s waiting.” You
didn’t want to see my mom when you were late. She was not a
very good angry person.
Mina ran in and grabbed her sneakers out of her locker. I was
getting more anxious every second that passed. I didn’t know
what she’d think of me if she knew that I could read minds.
Or maybe she wouldn’t believe me. I think not have her
believe me would be the worst.
“Ready?” she asked grabbing my arm and dragging me out.
I found it funny that she was going to yoga with my mom. Mina
isn’t the most coordinated person in the world. I let out a
snort.
“Did you just snort..?” she looked offended, but in a
playful way.
“Maybe.” I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I
burst out into fits of laughter.
“What in the world is so funny? Is my hair messed up? My
makeup? Something on my butt?” She looked over her shoulder
to check. It only made me laugh harder.
“Nah, man. It’s just, you know, you aren’t the
most coordinated person in the world and you’re going to
yoga…” She stuck her tongue out at me and playfully
slapped me across the face.
Best friends. That’s what we were. More like sisters most of
the time. I hope that didn’t change. I hope this new ability
didn’t change it. I’d rather have never been able to
read minds than to lose Mina.
“I see your mom.” She pointed to a little blue car in
the back of the parking lot.
“Hey mom.” Mina said hopping in the car. I loved how my
best friend called my mom, mom.
“Hi Mina. How was your girls’ day?”
“Good.” We both responded.
“Mina had to…” I made violent slicing motions
across my neck, signaling her not to tell my mom about my little
visit to the nurse. I didn’t need my mom to worry about me.
Especially when the other night I was acting delusional towards her
because she wasn’t saying the numbers out loud.
“Yes, Mina had to?” My mom questioned her.
“Uh, she had too…” Mina stuttered trying to come
up with something.
“I had to go to the principal’s office today.” I
had no clue were this was going; just hoping I would be able to
slide my way through it.
“What for?” It beat me. I should have just told her I
had to go down to the nurse. I’m a horrible liar, especially
when I’m put on the spot.
“Some dumb kids got in a fight on the stairwell and I
witnessed it, I had to tell them about it.”
“Oh, everyone is alright I hope?” Well, seeing there
was never any fight…
“Yeah, just a couple bruises.” Then my mom gave me some
lecture about how not to get into fights. I didn’t really
listen to her though. I had a bad headache coming on.
When we got home we rushed upstairs to my room and slammed the door
closed behind us.
“So what is it you had to tell me?” I could see the
eagerness in her eyes, and the sweat that was starting to bead
around the hairline on my neck.
“Umm, well I’m not exactly sure how to tell
you.”
“Did you make out with someone? Something worse? You
didn’t have…”
“No! Nothing like that.” I quickly cut her off.
“Then what is it girl? You know you can tell me
anything.”
“Well…” I really wish I had thought this through
fully.
“I tell you everything Sofie, everything. How I like Ryan,
about my dreams, and all about…”
"I can read minds." I whispered out well she was
talking.
feedbaackk? whaat do you
think?
