i think he just wants like a close friend he can rely on, and youre it. he trusts you probably the same from when you were dating... thats why he acts like that

but what doesnt help is he hugs me everyday almost and talks to me like he did when we were dating before

if hes saying he doesnt want to, then he most liekly doesnt want to.... and him saying k after you telling him you love him doesnt sound very loving either... i dont think this is your guy, but youll find him eventually, goodluck prettty♥

Maybe he just sees you as a friend who helps him get through his hard times. I'm sorry, but maybe he just thinks of you as a bestfriend. Hope I helped <3
