One Secret Too Many #3
Tyler
I
turned into the aisle with pens and almost tripped over a girl
kneeling down on the ground. I opened my mouth to tell her to
move over, but then I actually looked at her. I couldn't see
her face, but she had long, light brown hair that was
loosely curled and gorgeous. She was tan, too. I prayed her face
would be as pretty as the rest of her and asked, "Hey, do
you need some help?"
The girl looked up,
startled, and it took everything I had not to gasp out in
amazement and shock. She was more gorgeous than I was hoping. She
had amazing, clear, green eyes, with thick and full eyelashes
around them. She had a perfect nose, and light pink lips. She
seemed as shocked as I felt, but probably because she was so
surprised by my entrance. She managed to stutter out, "Um...
no.. I just uh.. sure, thanks."
Her voice almost
knocked me out, it matched her perfectly. Bright and chiming,
like bells. I bent down and picked up the rest of her pens. I
gave them to her and smiled, and she took them and told me,
"Thanks," with a smile that showed rows of perfect,
white teeth.
I didn't know what
to say, but I wanted to stay and talk with her. Thankfully,
she broke the silence, and said, "Hey, I'm Lexi."
She stuck out her hand for a handshake.
I slowly reached out
and took her soft hand in mine. "Hi Lexi," I said,
"I'm Tyler."
She asked me if I
was new around here, and I told her I just moved from
California. Looks like I won't be missing my old home all
that much. I asked if she was going to the school that was in
town, and she said yes. I smiled, and told her how happy I was
that I was going to know someone on the first day.
That's when a male
voice rang througout the store, calling, "Lexi? Lex, where
are you? We're leaving!"
They were calling
Lexi. Man, does she have a boyfriend? She's probably only
being this friendly to me because I'm the new guy. Man,
I'm so stupid!
"Sorry, I
guess I have to go," she said. "I'll see you
when school starts!"
I almost didn't
say goodbye, I was too caught up in my own thoughts. I realized
she was walking away and called out, "Yeah, see
you."
She waved and kept
walking away. Why did she have to do that to me? Ty, I
told myself, get over her. She's just some girl who
already has a boyfriend and you have no shot. Deal with
it.
I listened to the
voice inside my head, and tried not to think about
Lexi leaving the store with her perfect
boyfriend. Why do I care so much? I met this girl not five
minutes ago! I kept telling myself that, but for some reason, it
still hurt.
