I Won't Forget
Chapter 6
I sighed as I approached the Taylor house. It
has been 2 weeks since the accident and I've been nowhere but
home the whole time,
well except the wake and funeral, but those had both been a blur
to me. It was about time I got out of the house to go see
Olivia's parents. They needed me, and I needed them. As I
rolled to the edge of the step, the door swung open. It was
Olivia’s mom. She actually looked okay, but when she saw
me, she got all teary eyed and pulled me close.
“Are you okay, Alisha?! Your legs! Oh my god, Alisha.
Please tell me you’re okay.” she cried.
“I’m fine, Mrs. Taylor, my legs
hurt but I’m fine. But why are you worried about me at a
time like this?”
“Alisha, you know you’re like a second daughter to
me,” she sobbed, “Oh, and come in, let me help you
with that.”
As I rolled inside, I smelled that familiar Taylor house smell. I
knew this house like it was my own. I looked into the living room
on my right and saw Mr. Taylor sitting there quietly. He got up
and walked over to me. He avoided eye contact with me and I could
tell he wanted to burst out crying at the sight of my face. He
put his hand on my shoulder and sighed.
“Stay strong, okay, Alisha?” he said in a raspy
voice. I nodded. He didn’t seem as well as Mrs. Taylor, but
he seemed okay too. That moment, I realized nothing could beat
the power of family, whether it was blood family or even just
who’s been there all along. After I sat with Mr. and Mrs.
Taylor for a long time and talked about Liv, I felt a lot better.
They really had a hold of themselves. That’s why I loved
them so much, they were so strong.
Mrs. Taylor told me to go upstairs if I want.
Of course I wanted to go to Olivia’s room. It would be
painful, but it was the closest I’d get to her. So I
walked up the stairs to her room. I closed my eyes and slowly
opened the door. I opened my eyes and gasped. Mitch was sitting
on the bed looking through our yearbook. He quickly rushed over
to me and pulled me in for a tight hug. I hugged
back.
“I’m so glad you’re here,
Leesh. I have a surprise for you!” he
grinned.
“Umm, are you okay Mitch?” I asked confused on why he
seemed so happy.
“Of course. Listen, Alisha. Olivia wouldn’t want us
to sit around and cry, would she? She’d want us to move on,
but remember her. She'd want us to enjoy the summer before
college! So now, when I’m sad, I just listen to our
favorite songs, and try to remember the time we had
together.”
“Wow, Mitch.” I said, “That’s great that
you’re staying positive… But why aren’t you
mad at me?”
“Why would I… Ohhhhhh because of Adam.” he
answered his own question.
“Yeah, I’m sorry,
I—” Mitch
cut me off.
“Well that’s what I’ve been trying to tell
you.” he smiled.
“What?” I asked, stupidly.
“Here.” he handed me 2 tickets. I looked at them and
my mouth dropped open. I couldn’t get any words out, I was
speechless.
“That’s right.” he grinned. “We’re
going to Palestine, baby!”
